The Technology of HIMS: Hardware, Software, Peripherals and Processes
Health Information Management includes the essential information with the intention of is its policy producer, clinicians, and health service clients to improve and care for and provide aide for the health of the common population. There has been a progressively more severe need for comprehensive, structured, and convenient health information, including contracts, patient and repositories of information.
The computer hardware production is quickly rising. This can be classified into many extensive classes such as input, output processing, and storage. Hardware also can include disk drives, integrated circuits, display screens, cables, modems, speakers, and printers. The healthcare information system compromises the computer hardware and software and the telecommunications technologies that it uses to store and transmit information. Health Information Management are now used in carrying out almost all functions within a hospital such as scheduling staff, patient appointments, electronic prescriptions, decision support, electronic medical records and Insurance billing information.
Software is a universal phrase that illustrates computer programs. The applications, scripts, and instructions sets that all fall under this category of computer software. Software programs are sorted as dual date copied to a computer’s hard drive. Software is important to Health information Management because it can store, retrieve, and manage patients records and also efficiently cater to ever changing technology and regulatory landscape. Most healthcare providers seek for such solutions that can offer them accuracy, reliability, and time results for maintenance of medical records. The idea is to make medical records accessible and manageable compared to age-old methods of maintaining paper based medical records. Computer Hardware used in hospitals this generally relates with all sorts of monitoring types of equipment, workstations, medical imaging Computer hardware are also used in other facets of healthcare such non-invasive procedures (CAT scans, ultrasound and MRI), Computer Aided Learning (CAL) and automatic delivery systems. Healthcare will maintain to have a connection with computer technology as supplementary ways would be sought out to connect its power to not only advance the delivery of its services but also direct costs particularly in this age of escalating pressure on the world’s limited resources.

...blogging and other emerging technologies in the company? Bernie Ruben raises three questions about blogging and emerging technologies at IVK. What, if anything, should we do about this blog entry? As Jim Barton, we don’t want Carl Williams to know anything about the blog about IVK. He will be mad if he learns that a description of June 28 events are available on the Internet. As it seems to be a blog not read by a big amount of people, we should just don’t talk about it and try to make the blogger turn off his page indirectly. Do nothing. What should be our general policy about blogging based on inside information from within the company? Jim Barton has to settle a policy to prevent people putting stuff about IVK on their computer or online. IVK’s employees have to know that they cannot talk about work outside of work. We, as the CIO, have to work with the compliance department to design the confidentiality policy. If we build this policy in a way that the blogger understands that he is out of compliance it should make him correct his blog by himself without any action of the company. The policy should not be only about blogs but about also about Web 2.0 technologies. It has to be acute enough to avoid to blindside IVK’s IT department again. A good way to get Williams understand the issue could be to enlighten some past examples about the Nintendo’s gaming remote control on Youtube, etc… What should be our process for spotting emerging technologies and analysing them to...

...CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 1.1 Introduction Modern civilization has become so complicated and sophisticated that to survive one has to be competitive. This compels people to keep themselves informed of all types of happening in the society. And this in turn entails the need for an infrastructure of information. This is the point where information technology or IT becomes most important, as it is the infrastructure that allows us to get information accurately and in time. Before we define information technology, it is important to understand the notion of Data, Information, Technology, and Knowledge. In everyday conversation, people use the terms data and information interchangeably. However, some computer professional make a distinction between the two terms. Data It is the words, numbers, letters, symbol, sound, video and graphics that describe people, events, things and ideas. It is raw facts about people, objects, and events that have little or no meaning. It is the raw material used to create useful information. It becomes information when you use it as the basis for initiating some action or for making a decision. Information It is defined as the words, numbers, letters, symbol, sound, video and graphics used as the basis for human action or decisions. It is data that have been processed and presented in a form suitable for human interpretation, often with the purpose of revealing trends or patterns that can be used in decision-making. It is data...

...that support the comprehensive information requirements of hospitals, including patient, clinical, ancillary and financial management. Hospitals are extremely complex institutions with large departments and units coordinate care for patients. Hospitals are becoming more reliant on the ability of hospital information system (HIS) to assist in the diagnosis, management and education for better and improved services and practices Hospitals are convenient settings for deployment of ubiquitous computing technology. Not only are they technology-rich environments, but their workers experience a high level of mobility resulting in information infrastructures with artifacts distributed throughout the premises. Hospital information systems (HISs) that provide access to electronic patient records are a step in the direction of providing accurate and timely information to hospital staff in support of adequate decision-making. This has motivated the introduction of mobile computing technology in hospitals based on designs which respond to their particular conditions and demands. Among those conditions is the fact that worker mobility does not exclude the need for having shared information artifacts...

Then this paper would also include its current state of art, its uses, its current applications, the problems that have occurred in designing such kind of systems, also the steps taken to solve such problems and its future prospects. 1. INTRODUCTION These are the days when the term like embedded is increasingly becoming more and more popular in the world. We are flooded with embedded systems that seem to be everywhere. Now the question is what basically embedded systems are. We can define an embedded system as a microprocessor based system that does not look like a computer. Or we can say that it is a combination of computer hardware and software, and perhaps additional mechanical or other parts, designed to perform a dedicated function. In some cases, embedded systems are part of a larger system or product, as is the case of an antilock braking system in a car. ...Information Systems, 13E Laudon & Laudon Lecture Files by Barbara J. Ellestad Chapter 5 IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies As information becomes a valuable resource of a digital firm, the infrastructure used to care for it takes on added importance. We’ll examine all of the components that comprise today’s and tomorrow’s IT infrastructure and how best to manage it. 5.1 IT Infrastructure When you mention the phrase “information technology infrastructure,” most people immediately think of just hardware and software. However, there is more to it than just those two. In fact, the most important and often most-ignored component is that of services. Integrating all three components forces a business to think in terms of the value of the whole and not just the parts. Including all three components in any discussion of IT infrastructure truly fits the cliché that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Defining IT Infrastructure If you define a firm’s IT infrastructure in terms of technology you limit the discussion to the hardware and software components. By broadening the definition to that of service-based, you are then bringing into the discussion the services generated by the first two components. Also, you are including the persware element that we discussed in Chapter 1. As technology advances the types of hardware and software available, it becomes more critical for the firm to focus on the services that a firm can provide to its customers, suppliers...
