...It is a non-profit organization that was created in 1998. The programs are based in several grade schools in the Columbia, South Carolina area. The Teen Health has six programs in its structure: Freshman Focus, ParenTeen, Teen Talk, Good Grieving, Giving Tree and Project READY. Freshman Focus is focused on teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is a major concern for our teens. "Palmetto Health partners with local colleges to implement a college-based sexual health workshop called Freshman Focus” (Palmetto-Teen, 2015). A 50-minute session provides factorial information to college freshmen on healthy relationships, sexually transmitted diseases, and methods to protect against STDs and unexpected pregnancy. "South Carolina was ranked 12 out of 51 (50 states + the District of Columbia) on 2011 final teen births rates among females aged 15-19 (with 1 representing the highest rate and 51 representing the lowest rate)” (Centers, 2013). Parents are the greatest mentors on their children's health and decisions about sex. Recognizing this fact, their "Maternal and Child Health Initiative offers free quarterly parenting sessions on puberty, communication, healthy relationships, Internet safety, drugs and alcohol and other related topics” (Palmetto-Teen, 2015). ParenTeen sessions are free one hour sessions at Palmetto Health. We know that teens have many tough decisions to make, and most of the time it helps to talk things out. The weekly group discussions are held during school lunches...

...Although I finished my data collection a few weeks ago (hence the lack of posting), I've been continuing my work with YAA and the i.d.e.a. Museum. Over the course of my Senior Research Project, I've gained experience with research in a non-scientific setting, and I've also learned more about what makes outreach efforts successful. While my involvement with Young Authors of Arizona continues, the awards ceremony two weeks ago marks my last event as a Student Leader with YAA. I recently committed to the University of Pennsylvania, and I hope to apply what I've learned about writing outreach to similar efforts in Philadelphia. For now, I'm looking into future projects for YAA and searching for new student leadership to make those projects happen. I'm also helping the i.d.e.a. Museum to develop a more formalized summer program for teen volunteers....

...as its vision and mission. The paper will also address how the organization is governed and staffed, their key stakeholders, and how they influence the organization. It will also discuss the community collaborations, marketing, and public relations strategies employed. Finally, the paper will discuss how Harbor House of Central Florida demonstrates the valuing of diversity, as well as the environmental trends they are facing and how they handle them. The vision and mission of the Harbor House of Central Florida is to “eliminate domestic violence by providing safety, shelter, counseling, education, advocacy and justice (Harbor House, 2011)”. They do this through their five main programs; emergency shelter, children’s services, community outreach, legal advocacy services, and educating the community and professionals. They provide counseling services for the women and children who utilize their services every year. Understanding that cases of domestic violence can occur at any time, the Harbor House Legal Advocacy staff is authorized to grant injunctions 24 hours a day through their emergency hotline (Harbor House, 2011). Harbor House of Central Florida is staffed with professionals that have educational backgrounds in human services. They also staff volunteers in their offices and shelters. Employees and volunteers are required to go...

...positive and negative features. The zip code community of 53218 is no exception. Some of those positive features of the 53218 community has prospective features such as its existing available clinics, multipurpose community centers, such as the Silver Spring Community Center, and numerous outreach programs through organizations including Growing Power and the Milwaukee Outreach Center. Unfortunately, it is still considered one of ten zip codes in the Milwaukee County designated in the “lower socioeconomic status” group as reported in the Milwaukee Health Report (Chen, et al., 2011). The lower SES group, including 53218, as a whole is at risk for (1) a growing rate of obesity related to a poor nutritional lifestyle, (2) a continually decreasing gynecological health among the female population between ages 12 and 19 related to a lack of enforced education and rising teen pregnancy-related issues, and (3) a consistently low level of neighborhood safety related to motor vehicle accidents and rising crime rates. Community Strengths The community of 53218 has three main areas of strength: (1) several available clinics, (2) an abundance of multipurpose community centers, and (3) numerous outreach programs. First, there are many medical and dental clinics within the 53218 community capable of providing different services. Hampton Dental Associates is one of the more prominent dental clinics in the community. The Lubsey Medical Center is a primary care and family practice clinic with...

...degree of change will focus on the methods that help prevent unwanted pregnancies, family planning, and the effectiveness of these methods. We will measure the increase in use of condoms, emergency contraceptives, abstinence, and the pill provided by this program. The educational portion will provide information on the effects of not using birth control contraceptives such as sexually transmitted diseases. The success of this program does not depend on prevention methods alone, but acquiring a good outreach program and skilled administrators. The goal is to reduce unintentional pregnancies in unprivileged communities. “Shefali S. Kulkarni states that almost in 40 years teen pregnancies are at the lowest level, research data by Guttmacher Institute” (Kulkarni, 2012, p. 1). The cost of unplanned or unintended pregnancies cost the nation millions per year, and by educating the population, the organization can put the money toward more services and programs to benefit women, and teens. Preventive care and access to services are the main goal for the people “we” serve in the community. Increasing access to information regarding family planning, sex education,...

...This Drug Project I would like to work on would be a prevention program aimed at reducing first-time drug use for the drugs of Meth, Cocaine, and Hallucinogens. I will use public service messaging, educational classes, and community outreach. The Middlebrow Drug Project will use a variety of commercials to inform young adults and youth the harmful effects of Meth, Cocaine, and Hallucinogen use. These commercials will not be your everyday commercials, compared to regular commercials that want to sell products, these commercials I want to make a difference and a change in teen’s attitudes towards these drugs. The Project will show my prevention efforts effectively by providing real life experiences and the campaign will target youth, teens, and young adults through peer pressures they might face with these drugs. Targeting middle schools, high schools and even the community college we have in town is what I will focus on throughout this project; along with going throughout town to spread awareness. I will have help and volunteers who feel as strongly as I do to help me get the message across along with reaching out to the community in various ways. Some volunteers will be former drug users to share their story, while others will help with the educational classes and messaging. I will choose to focus on Middlebrow first, not only because I live here and would like to make a change in my community, but because drugs are a problem in my community. This Project will show prevention...

...Nursing Research Project Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program Abstract The issue of controlling and preventing teenage pregnancy is a major problem in society. Teenage pregnancy is a significant health issue that plagues our nation and communities. Community and public health nurses are faced with the challenge of addressing teen pregnancy, a monumental health issues that affect vulnerable populations in society. Effectiveness of healthcare interventions depends in part, on the approach that is taken in addressing the presenting issues (Shi & Stevens, 2005). Factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy span socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological issues that are perpetrated by individual characteristics (of the teenagers), peers, family members, and the greater society (Maurer & Smith, 2009). Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that in 2009, more than 500,000 children were born to mothers of ages 15 to 19 years, at a rate of 45.5 per 1000 mothers (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010, para. 1). Teenage pregnancy, a public health priority for youths, is a multifaceted health issue that is influenced, in part, by socioeconomic factors such as peer pressure, low income of families, and the media (Maurer & Smith, 2009; The National Campaign, 2010). Likewise, teenage pregnancy also creates socioeconomic and health problems for teenage mothers, teenage fathers, their children, and society. Some of the effects of...

...Methods of Evangelism Joseph DiDiana Liberty University Methods of Evangelism Evangelistic Method #1: Four Spiritual Laws The four spiritual laws are an “intellectual” method. These laws are a guide to what you need to do to accept Christ as your Lord and savior. These spiritual laws help us manage and strengthen our relationship with God. The first spiritual law is “God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The second spiritual law says that “Man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God's love and plan for his life” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The third spiritual law is “Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin. Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The fourth and final spiritual law is “We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The four spiritual laws allow for Christians to be more effective witnesses for Christ. Believe This method has a couple of advantages. First, these laws start out in a positive manor. It lets everyone know that God loves you and wants you to come to Him as you are no matter what stage of life you are in. Secondly, it attracts to a group of people that rely on a principle model to explain life around them. These laws give direction, meaning and...

...STUDENT RESUME/ACTIVITY LIST A resume or list of extracurricular activities can go a long way with an admissions committee. Taking the time to add extra components to the application shows conscientious effort on the student's part to create the best possible impression. It is also impressive because it shows that a student is genuinely interested in the school. However, be sure to fill out the application entirely—use the resume to give a deeper picture of where your interests lie. This resume will also help to simplify and bring attention to your scholarship applications. Most students simply create chronological lists of their extracurricular accomplishments. Big mistake! This is a section where you can really set yourself apart from other applicants by employing a little strategy. Anyone can be a member of the Key Club, but not anyone can start an adult literacy program or become the assistant manager at Wayne's Weenie World. The key to making your extracurricular activities stand out within the limited space of the application form is to focus on leadership. But before you can do this, you first need to make a list of all your extracurricular activities, summer activities, and jobs. List everything big and small. Significant and insignificant. Don't forget that extracurricular activities include experiences like teaching all those hyper kids at Sunday School, whacking the ball around on the ping pong team, playing the triangle in band, leading a sit-in against...

Healthcare facilities and health care providers that include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists, have a plethora of options when it comes to developing a presence online. They have the option of starting a blog or joining networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. There are also online communities that are solely for the use of healthcare providers. Social media allows patients to interact with physicians and healthcare workers; it makes it possible for patients to be more informed when it applies to their healthcare procedures. Healthcare companies can take advantage of social media by creating surveys and blogs where patients can share their opinions and experiences Patients are taking a more active role in...
