In the book, The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau, the main character, Cia, changed over the course of the book due to her experiences.
Before Cia was chosen to participate in ‘The Testing’ she exhibited traits such as being mature, visionary, and fixated on her potential future. For an example, on page 95, Charbonneau wrote, “But Dr. Barnes’s words ring loud in my head. The Testing is about more than what happens in the classrooms. Asking for help through the night will be seen as a weakness. Leaders are not weak. The Testing is looking for leaders,”. Even though she was shocked with a friends passing, she knew she had to pull herself together. She had to show Dr. Barnes that she was strong and can handle anything thrown her way. In other words, Charbonneau states “I use only the solutions I can identify by smell and color. By using others mistakes to guide her actions, she concentrates on creating a future. This shows how she recognizes the mistakes of others to her own benefit.
