...(anonymous) Love is strong for people missing each other because they wish they could just be together. This is the way Juliet felt when Romeo was banished. There is a lot of love between Romeo and Juliet in the play by William Shakespeare. Two young people fall in love but they have families that have been feuding for years. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the theme of love is stronger than hate because Romeo risks his life for Juliet and he agrees to marry Juliet even know there families hate each other. Love is stronger in Romeo and Juliet because they get married even though there families are enemies. Juliet says this to her love Romeo “My love is deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.” (2-2-146) This shows Juliet’s love is deep for Romeo because she says that her love is never ending. Even though her family would never approve of her being with Romeo she confesses her love for him. Some believe that hate is stronger in the play Romeo and Juliet; because of the fued. However...

...LOVE In Romeo and Juliet, love is definitely one of the dominant themes but it differs in its forms. There are various types of love throughout the play; such as in the beginning of the play where Romeo displays a more childish and superficial love for Rosaline. This changed very quickly as soon he became infatuated with this irrational love he felt for Juliet. The play is filled with intense passion and romantic gestures between the individuals and it focuses on the romantic love surrounding them. Throughout the play, love is portrayed as an overpowering and controlling emotion that's overtakes all other loyalties or values that they may have previously cared for. The love that Romeo and Juliet shared consumed them completely, but it was also very hasty and rushed. There were many different manifestations of love in this play; such as physical, passionate and spiritual. Family and friends were being pushed away as the two lovers became engulfed with one another and this was when problems arose. Juliet spoke ‘deny thy father and refuse thy name, or if thou wit not, be but sworn my love, and ill no longer be a Capulet’. Her undying devotion to Romeo soon became an overpowering force in which she began to ignore all common sense and rational thoughts. The love in this play was not a pretty, idealized emotion that always ended perfectly, though it was always intimate and passionate. But with that passion came new obstacles and problems for themselves and the people surrounding...

...Focus on Shakespeare 1. Romeo and Juliet is definitely one of the best and tragic films I have ever seen. Shortly I can say that it is an eternal love story where Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Juliet (Claire Danes) secretly fall in love with each other and go to confession. But their love is forbidden and the story goes over from being a romance to become a tragedy. DiCaprio needs a little time to get into the role, but soon he becomes a mind blowing and charming hero who is willing to sacrifice his life for Juliet. Claire Danes also, has a beautiful and conspicuous dramatic talent. What I liked most about the story was the setting. The director (Luhrmann) takes Shakespeare's history and puts it into a modern society and a modern film form, and he does so in a confident and smart way. The language and dialogue from Shakespeare are retained, while the costumes are an elegant blend of past and present. Luhrmann has in addition replaced the horses and swords with stylish vehicles and firearms. I also really liked the romantic feel throughout the film. One can spot several sequences showing the strong love between the couple. For example their secret marriage at the church. They do not take the bother of what others think, only their burning love counts. In contrast to traditional film style, where first and foremost acting and soundtrack is partially used to create different moods, Luhrmann has effectively implemented several stylistic devices. Editing, cinematography and...

...Have you ever read Romeo and Juliet? In my English class we read the story of Romeo and Juliet. The book is fiction and is a romantic/tragedy story. I enjoyed the story a lot because it kept surprising me, which kept it interesting. I feel Romeo and Juliet is a significant book because every character moved the story along, the point of view showed how everyone felt and the theme is a classic by William Shakespeare. First of all the characters affected the story in big ways. In every act there was new characters and old characters were even different because new things were happening and it changed how they felt. Romeo is a kind, loving boy who likes to be alone, such as “But he, his own affections’ counselor, is to himself-I will not say...

...Romeo and Juliet was William Shakespeare’s last play, and quite possibly one of his most popular. There are many hidden themes and metaphors, one of which is fate. This play is about 2 teenages from feuding families that fall into a forbidden love, and the plot of this play describes the issues they run into and the hoops they jump through in order to be together. In this story, Shakespeare uses the age and timeline of the story to show the theme of fate through misdelivery of Friar Lawrence’s letter, the resolution between the Montagues and the Capulets, and the love between Romeo and Juliet that lead to suicide. One event that was prudent to the future of Romeo and Juliet was the delivery of Friar Lawrence’s letter, which was quite unforgiving when it came...

...Romeo and Juliet were born into the feud their families had been fighting for generations. It is much like the countries that have hated each other for as long as anyone can remember. The minor characters even started a brawl at the beginning of the play over a simple little insult. In fact all through the story violence was impacting major events. The best example of this of course is the ending. Violence not only affected the ending to Romeo and Juliet it was the reason for most events leading and including the ending. For some people escaping a life style can be impossible no madder how hard you try. Growing up in the violent families Romeo and Juliet did they gain the means of having lethal weapons like poison and swords. If Romeo wasn’t part of the feud or carry a sword he couldn’t have killed tybalt. Of course then he wouldn’t have gotten in trouble and banished. Also he couldn’t have gotten the poison from Friar Laurence to kill himself. Although carrying a sword would be normal back in the 17th century poison was a touchy subject. As Friar Lawrence put it “every plant, herb, and stone has its own special properties”, The theme of the story was violence. Romeo and Juliet were always connected to passion, whether the passion was love or hate. The connection between hate and violence is obvious but the connection between love and violence isn’t. Love much like hate can make people do things they never would do under normal circumstances. When Romeo and Juliet first...

...In the play Romeo and Juliet, there are several themes shown as well as forms of figurative language used to show them. When writing, Shakespeare uses figurative language in the form of metaphors, similes, personification, and imagery in order to advance the overall theme, the brutality of love. The brutality of love in this play is that a boy who may seem to be fully committed to one girl, can so easily turn to be in love with another when he is not given his way, as well as the fact that love may not always last forever when the fate of love is put in the hands of other people, and there are always outside forces urging the two of them to stay away from each other. All of this is seen occurring very early in Romeo and Juliet, and continues...

...Romeo and Juliet Essay - Critical Commentary Critical Commentary Opening Prologue: The first act prologue not only reveals what will happen during the course of the play, but also some of the major dichotomies. The opening line shows us that the Capulet and Montague houses are, although at odds, equal in their aristocratic status. It was considered "fashionable" in the Renaissance for aristocratic families to have feuds, but they were not to engage in public fighting, a taboo which is broken by the Capulets and the Montagues. However, line 4 indicates that these equal families are in an ungoverned situation where no rules will be obeyed, which is why they are able to fight. The Chorus reveals one of the most important themes of the play in line 5-8, which is that Romeo and Juliet are destined not only to love each other, but to die, which will end the feud. The fact that Shakespeare tells us the end of the play before it even begins is intentional—this creates a tension between what we as the audience know must happen, and what could have happened if the characters had acted differently. Thus the theme of fate versus free will emerges: do Romeo and Juliet die because it was their destiny, or do they die because of their actions and the actions of those around them? The third major point that surfaces in the opening prologue is one of extremes. There is extreme hatred between the Capulet and Montague families. The only solution to...

...Hate is an overwhelming emotion that is an integral portion of society; expressed greatly in media such as literature. This emotion is additionally vital in a play written by William Shakespeare. ...In the book Romeo and Juliet by William shake sphere, there is foreshadowing throughout the whole entire book. The main thing that is being foreshadowing is the death of the charters. Including death by objects, thoughts of death, and death of people. Shakespeare seems to give hints throughout the book about what what will happen during the book, many movies, and books do this. Death by objects is a small theme in the book about death. ”oh tell me friar, tell me, in what part of this anatomy doth my name ledge? Tell me, that I may sack the hateful mansion” (3.3 Romeo) This foreshadows that Romeo is going to die by a vile of a person. “and with this knife, ill help it presently god joined me heart and Romeo’s, they our hands” (4.1 Juliet) Juliet just foreshadowed what she uses to end her life with. Not only is death by objects, but also thoughts about death. Thoughts of death is another theme of death. When Juliet said “go ask his name; it he be married my glove is like to be my wedding bed” (1.5 Juliet) she is basically foreshadowing that her wedding bed will be the floor of her grave. In the balcony scene, when Juliet expresses her fear for Romeo's safety, Romeo replies that it's ok if her kinsmen find him, because his "life were better ended by their hate, / Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love" (2.2.77-78). ...The Game of Love Juliet waits impatiently for night to fall so Romeo can climb to her balcony unseen and consummate their marriage. Sighing to herself, she wishes the darkness would spread faster. She divulges her nervousness in a soliloquy and invites night to teach her how to tame her racing emotions. Come, civil night, Thou sober-suited matron, all in black, And learn me how to lose a winning match, Played for a pair of stainless maidenhoods. Hood my unmanned blood, bating in my cheeks, With thy black mantle till strange love grow bold, Think true love acted simple modesty.
