The Tragic Hero In Luke Earner's Among The Hidden

The main character of the book "Among the Hidden," Luke Garner is a brave 12 year old boy who has to live an unfair life because the government has a law which does not allow any third children like Luke to exist. This means that Luke has to hide and not go outside. He was miserable until he met someone who would help him change as a character from the beginning of the story to the end. Also, this book made me wonder if I would want Luke by my side in a crisis or not. One way that Luke changes as a character from the beginning of the story to the end is that in the beginning Luke used to almost always be miserable. After his family had to leave their farm, Luke was no longer allowed go outdoors. This would make him miserable because he missed running around. He was also not allowed to attend school or anything else that included him going outside. Several other things made him miserable and upset also, like the …show more content…
One reason of why I would want Luke by my side in a crisis is because he is brave. He could do dangerous tasks without even knowing how dangerous it really is. For example, according to the story Luke went to Jen's house carefully by hiding in whatever he could in order to not be seen. He had probably not realized that if he got caught, both him and his family would face consequences and be killed. Another reason of why I would want Luke by my side is because he is trustworthy. For example, in the story Luke never tries to take advantage of what Jen has just because she trusts him. He would never betray anyone in exchange for something else. One last reason of why I would want Luke by my side is because he could make hard decisions. For example, in the story Luke could have spent his last days with his family until the population police came or live longer with a different name and possibly never see his family ever again. This decision is tough, but Luke was able to decide which destiny he would
