An Unforgettable Moment It was November 5, 2012. It was raining and you could notice the clouds in the sky even though it was dark. While my father was driving the car, my mom was talking nonstop and my brother was taking a nap on my lap. I was staring out of the window and was thinking of that moment I was barely waiting for; the unforgettable moment of having my last thoughts while traveling to the airport, facing my dad’s feelings and saying goodbye to my parents . Many times I had thought about the time when I was going to be free; no parents, no rules. But, the way this thought was making me feel at that moment was completely different; it created an emptiness inside me. I could see my parents pretending like everything was okay, but deep inside they were suffering more than me. Till that moment, we had all talked about it and did not make it such a big deal, but now that the end was coming and we were approaching the airport even more, nobody could hide the drama of the most expected moment; the moment that would be unforgettable. My dad kept driving slower than ever and kept on looking at me through the mirror in the car. It seemed to me like his eyes were asking “Why?” I felt bad for wanting to leave my family and furthermore I felt bad for choosing a place so far away from home to study. After more than 10 minutes of exchanges of views with me, my dad pulled over. He got out of the car and pulled a cigarette package out of his pocket. I didn’t even know he started smoking again. It was my fault for sure. I even started to regret my decision but it was that last sight my dad gave to me that changed everything. It was a sight different from the others he had been giving me throughout the journey; this one gave me courage and made some tears fall of my eyes. Only then I turned my head around and noticed that we were only 1 mile away from the airport; he did it on purpose. While dad was parking the car, my brother was holding my suitcase even though it was way too big for him, while I and my mom were walking together. The airport seemed bigger than always to me and that emptiness…I started feeling it even there. The unforgettable moment had come. The only thing that was left, was to say goodbye to my parents and my little brother. I hugged my dad tight and while the seconds were flying I couldn’t let him go. It was a weird spiritual state; I had never felt so unconscious. I remember giving my mom a small hug and my little brother was hanging to my legs and whispering: “I’ll take care of mom and dad sissy! Don’t worry!” At that moment tears couldn’t let me talk so I just left and while having a blurry sight, I tried to find my terminal. I did turned around a couple of times and saw my parents smiling through tears and my little brother jumping like a monkey and waving at me. It was just a short period of time, having my final thoughts, facing my dad’s feelings and saying goodbye to my parents, but for me it will be the most unforgettable moment of my life. “Sometimes it’s the same moments that take your breath away that breathe purpose and love back into your life”.
