The United States Flag is an integral element that signified the birth of this phenomenal country. Also famous for its nickname “Old Glory”, the flag was born on June 14th, 1777, a year after the Declaration of Independence. Despite its long history, Old Glory has barely changed throughout time, as it has grown along with time

Old Glory consisted of three basic colors: white, red, and blue.

Red stands for blood. It is the blood that constantly runs through our bodies, never without stopping, and burns our love, our obligations to this nation. It is the patriotism, demonstrated by our contribution, pride, and attachments to what we called our native soil, the place where we accept to sacrifice every bit of ourselves to protect and never stop

National Flags

...One of the most popular uses of a flag is to symbolize a nation or country. Some national flags have been particularly inspirational to other nations, countries, or subnational entities in the design of their own flags. Some prominent examples include: * The flag of Denmark is the oldest state flag still in use (dates back to the 13th century). This flag, called the Dannebrog, inspired the cross design of the other Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and regional Scandinavian flags for the Faroe Islands, Åland, Scania and Bornholm, as well as flags for the non-Scandinavian Shetland and Orkney. * The Tricolour of the Netherlands is the oldest tricolor, first appearing in 1572 as the Prince's Flag in orange–white–blue. Soon the more famous red–white–blue began appearing—it is however unknown why, though many stories are known. After 1630 the red–white–blue was the most commonly seen flag. The Dutch Tricolor has inspired[citation needed] many flags but most notably those of Russia, New York City, and South Africa (the 1928–94 flag). * The national flag of France, the Tricolore was designed in 1794. As a forerunner of revolution, France's tricolour flag style has been adopted by other nations. Examples: Italy, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Haiti, Romania, Mexico, etc. * The flag of Russia, the source for the Pan-Slavic colors red, white and blue, adopted by many Slavic states and peoples as their symbols. In response to these threats, forty eight states passed laws The U. S. Supreme Court’s first ruling on Flag Desecration was in 1907. The statues prohibited the following: marking, defacing, using in commercial advertising, and showing “contempt” by publicly burning, trampling, spitting on, showing lack of respect for the U. S. My Responsibility Of A Citizen To America

...My freedom cost many lives, and now it is my turn to pay back the debt to the men who fought for my beautiful country. My responsibility as a citizen to America consists of voting, respecting, submitting, and to serving my country. Responsibility is defined as the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one’s power, control, or management. Personally, I agree with that statement, but responsibility means more to me than just being accountable it means to fulfill your jobs, own up to your actions, but most importantly follow the commands given to us in scripture by God. When I think of America, I think of it’s history, and all of the battles and wars that were fought to bring us to where we are today....

Black Lives Matter

...Racism is alive to this very day and you would have thought over 100 years it would ceased to exist but this generation it seems like it grows bigger and bigger. The way we are set up with the culture we should come together as one. Hatred always comes up and we became prejudice towards different racial group. African Americans came up with a movement called “black lives matter”. Black lives matter is an activist movement founded in the United States by three black activist: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. Similar to the “all lives matter” movement that was in after Bush left the office. On Huffpost, David Goldberg came up with “"All lives matter" is a universal moral principle, a Kantian categorical imperative. Other things being equal, all lives matter, equally. Except when they don't. And they don't when other things are taken not to be equal. Like racial standing in a society such as ours. The universalizing politics of "All lives matter" is one of racial dismissal, ignoring, and denial. The insistence that Black lives matter accordingly is necessary only because, unlike "all lives," in this society, black lives are too often taken not to matter. Black lives are presumed too readily in the U.S. not to inhabit the universal.” This movement was to rebuild the black liberation movement. What started this movement? The Trayvon Martin incident after the murderer, George Zimmerman, wasn’t charged for the killing during the trail. Ever since that plethora of blacks...

...Primary Source Analysis Paper 1. In the pictorial, Miss Colombia’s School House (1894), my initial impression is that this picture serves as the basis for the term “the great melting pot”. The pictorial shows the exclusion of Hawaii and Canada from the United States at that time but the desire to include them. The views of the South are expressed with the presence of the African American child being accosted with a weapon. The picture further depicts an Anglo child assaulting an Asian child. In the back of the pictorial one of the attendees is protesting his view of socialism by carrying a red flag with the work socialism publicized on the flag. This pictorial gives a quick look in to history regarding America’s relations with surrounding nations. Aguinaldo’s criticism of America’s policies towards the Philippines echo in the 1894 cartoon is when the Spanish was eradicated from the Philippines. It was at this moment that the American guerrilla began. Cuba was under the Spanish control and America became an ally and attempted to free Cuba from their tyrannical control. The Spanish also controlled the countries of Puerto Rico and Guam at this time. Due to the corrupt treatment, Aguinaldo deciphered that those in America viewed all native of the Philippines as savages. Due to this view the land of the Philippine Island was transformed from “a land of despotism and vicious governmental methods into an enlightened and progressive republic, with America guiding them”. The right side of the stamp says “USA FIRST-CLASSS FOREVER”, meaning that this postage stamp is valid for First-Class postage in the United States no matter when it is used. There is an extraordinary metal bell is in the middle of the stamp – the Liberty Bell, a venerable historic relic that I am going to analyze in the rest of this research paper. The bell was first known by the world as a metal musical instrument in ancient China. Tuned bells in that age were created and played to be performed only for imperial families and noblemen, as a symbol of power and status. Later on, bells became widely used in different religions. For example, bells played an important role in the Eastern world of Buddhism and Hinduism as temple bells. In western world, bells were commonly used as church bells or town bells for gathering people together. In 1752, the Quaker William Penn, legislator and founder of the Pennsylvania colony in 1682, had decided and commissioned the bell to be cast in London, and brought to North America to hang in the State House of the colony of Pennsylvania. “They had ordered very precisely that these prophetic words from the Old Testament be cast on the bell: ‘Proclaim Liberty throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof.’ ” Obviously, the Liberty Bell represents the important value of liberty and freedom in Pennsylvania colony. ...“It is agreed, in this country, that if a man can arrange his religion so that it perfectly satisfies his conscience, it is not incumbent upon him to care whether the arrangement is satisfactory to anyone else or not.” – Mark Twain (476) Introduction Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, traveled the world and got to know imperialistic endeavors from many different nations. After he returned to America on 15 October 1900, he joined the “Anti-Imperialist League” and actively opposed policies of the United States and Great Britain (William D. Howells and Mark Twain 723). In 1905, Mark Twain composed the short story The War Prayer in an effort to open the eyes to patriotic, war-loving people. This term paper will be a close-reading on Twain’s short story The War Prayer. The focus will not be on what was said about this short story by other authors, but rather give an explanation and deeper understanding on its satirical criticism on people’s patriotism and their glorification of war. The First Paragraph “It was a time of great and exalting excitement” (Twain 652). After reading these first nine words in Mark Twain’s The War Prayer one expects the time of “great and exalting excitement” to be one of technological advances or economic strength, or at least having to do with another peaceful connotation. Twain diverts these associations with his satirical competence by writing “The country was up in arms, the war was on . . .” Therefore, a “time...
