Dr. James Sire, in the book The Universe Next Door, asks seven questions that get ‘to the bottom’ of any worldview assumption of any type of worldview. By answering these questions in the light of the worldview you are attempting to analyze, the definition of this worldview becomes abundantly clear. The first two of these questions deal with the nature of reality: “What is the nature of prime reality?” and “What is the nature of material reality?” Sire asks these questions in order to define what a particular worldview believes are the absolute fundamentals of reality. In other words, the first question asks whether or not the worldview believes in any supernatural realms, and if there is one or multiple or no gods; the second seeks to

We all see the world different and the assumptions and prejudices that have about the world have an effect on how we regard the world. The Christian worldview and the Islamic worldview are similar, but they are different in many ways. But, what is a worldview? The ways a person views and understands the world have an effect on everyone. Sire defines a worldview as "a set of presuppositions (or assumptions) which we hold (consciously or subconsciously)...

...religion, to knowledge, which is not founded in a single historic event or prophet, but which itself proceeds recorded history. Hinduism has been called the "cradle of spirituality," and the "mother of all religions," partially because it has influenced virtually every major religion and partly because it can absorb all other religions, honor and embraces their scriptures, their saints, and their philosophy. This is possible because Hinduism looks compassionately on all genuine spiritual effort and knows unmistakably that all souls are evolving toward union with the Divine, and all are destined, without exception, to achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation in this or a future life. Here is a look at the nine facts that offer a simple summary of Hindu spirituality or about Hinduism. 1. Hindus believe in a one, all-pervasive Supreme being who is both immanent and transcendent, both Creator and Un-manifest Reality. 2. Hindus believe in...

Workplace Awareness

...Different people have different opinions in the workplace values for their work position. Finding a job which emphasizes on the same values as the potential employee is an ideal situation. But first everyone should have a list of workplace values with rankings before comparing them to what a work position can offer. Next I am going to talk about the top four workplace values of mine and why they are important to me. When I look for a job, the first thing I look for in the job description is whether I am competent to the tasks and what qualifications I might need further development on. If I could only find myself qualified for half of the tasks, very likely I would not look any further on the opportunity. I consider competence the very top value in my list for a work position, because I am a person who is easy to become stressed if I feel I do not have the knowledge or skill to solve the problem on my plate. Many may find ways to handle this type of situation very well, for example, they will do research on their own, ask their co-workers or supervisors, or undertake extra training. These are the same approach I usually take at the end, but being in the initial situation is the part that makes me uncomfortable. My desired environment is to be able to know exactly what need to be complete in detailed steps so that I could make good planning in the beginning. During the progress I can have a sense of where I am and whether I am in control of all bits of details. At the end of...

2001 Space Odessy

...Summary The man-apes of the world, who lived by gathering berries and nuts, were facing a lack of food. A giant monolith appeared on Earth one day and began to experiment with many of them, probing and developing their minds. Among those in whom the monolith took an interest was Moon-Watcher, the only man-ape who walked fully upright. At night, a few select man-apes were taught and during the day, they innovated. Moon-Watcher discovered that he could fashion tools with which to kill animals for sustenance—the man-apes' hunger problem was solved. Time passed and the man-ape evolved. His brain grew, he invented language and organized into civilizations, and he invented weapons—first knives, but then guns and finally nuclear missiles. Such innovations had been central in man's dominion over earth, but "as long as they existed, he was living on borrowed time." Eager to embark on another space mission, Dr. Heywood Floyd arrived at the Florida launch location after meeting with the president. He offered no comment to the press, nor would he reveal the details of mission to the crew that served him so faithfully on board or to his Russian friend whom he encounters at the joint U.S.-U.S.S.R. space station, a stop on his journey to the Moon. Upon his arrival, Floyd is greeted by a top official of the Moon colony and whisked off to a meeting. A lead scientist explains that they had found a magnetic disturbance in Tycho, one of the Moon's craters. An examination of the area had revealed...

That statement soon launched the performance apparel industry (Under Armour, 2012). That statement also became Under Armour’s generic strategy, which was to develop a better product than there was in the market. While Plank was perfecting his t-shirt after he graduated, he needed funds to launch his apparel line, so he maxed out his credit cards to the tune of $40,000 and set up a company in his grandmother’s basement in Washington, DC (Under Armour, 2012). In 1996, Kevin Plank founded Under Armour (Funding Universe). One year later, he made his first team...

...Regent University School of Undergraduate Studies CHRISTIANITY AND WICCA: DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED By COLLIS M. FOGLE RELS 107 Worldviews June 4, 2011 Professor Thomas Kreischer ” that the doctrines, commonly called orthodox, are contrary to reason, are FALLACIOUS; and a similar mode of reasoning, on: the truths of Natural Religion, will land us in atheism.” – ARCHIBALD AleXANDER Introduction The “New Age” is anything but new. This worldview and the myriad pagan and neo-pagan religions gathered beneath the shadow of its relatively large umbrella have been around for centuries. The modern church needs to be aware of the insidious threat posed by this seemingly platonic worldview so that the church, from pastors to congregation, can be adequately equipped to identify, pray and witness against this threat. Wiccans claim that Satan is a myth (and a Christian one at that) and that they believe in no such being. The Holy Bible, the inerrant word of God, says otherwise. There are only two sides in the eternal conflict that humankind is involved in and either we serve God or Satan. This paper will prove this fact and outline the stark differences between Wiccan and a Christian Theistic worldview. Jesus Christ is the key to salvation and without acceptance for His sacrifice; eternal damnation is the ultimate destination. The Bible denounces any and all occult practices. “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination...

Gone Home

...time you need. There’s a lot to uncover in Gone Home, the inaugural title by indie studio The Fullbright Company. Love, loneliness, secrets, desperation, sexual identity, growing up, acting out — it’s all there, hidden under beds and shoved into closets. I saw my childhood in there, and my adulthood, too, and the messy, complicated things I feel toward my family. It left me feeling raw, and clean, and quiet. It’s just a house. It made me cry.  The year is 1995, and twenty year old Katie has just returned home from a year abroad. Not that the house is a home she knows. Her parents moved while she was away, and the house is as unfamiliar to Katie as it is to the player — after all, you are one and the same. No one is there to greet you. The door is locked. The house is empty. The only acknowledgment you are given is a note written by your younger sister, Sam. She apologizes for not being there. She asks that you not go digging around for answers. She says she’ll see you again one day. And that’s it. There’s no quest log, no directions, no arrow pointing you toward something of use. Gone Home hinges on the assumption that curiosity alone is enough to drive the player onward. It certainly was for me. The farther I went into the house, the more anxious I was to learn what had happened there. Why had no one been there waiting for me? Was Sam hurt? Were my parents hurt? Was I in danger? Was I really alone? A storm raged outside, drumming on...

Cover Page Inside Flap Chapter 1 "Normal humans don't interest me." Chapter 2 Haruhi gets Mikuru into a bunny outfit. Chapter 7 "Hey Kyon, what's that giant?" Prologue Flap The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Prologue Prologue When did I stop believing in Santa Claus? In truth, this sort of silly question holds no real significance for me. However, if you were to ask me when I stopped believing that the old man wearing the red costume was Santa, then I can confidently say: I have never believed in Santa, ever. I knew that the Santa who appeared at my preschool Christmas party was a fraud, and now that I think about it, every one of my classmates shared the same look of disbelief watching our teacher pretend to be Santa. Although I had never seen mommy kissing Santa Claus, I was already wise enough to be suspicious about the existence of an old man who worked only on Christmas Eve. However, it took me quite a bit longer to realize that the aliens, time-travelers, ghosts, monsters and espers in those effects-filled 'good guys versus evil organization' cartoons didn't actually exist either. No, wait, I probably did realize, I just didn't want to admit it. Deep inside my heart I still wanted those aliens, time-travelers, ghosts, monsters, espers and evil organizations to suddenly appear. Compared to this boring, normal...

Thoreau

...Robert Frost is one of America’s most beloved poets, and "Mending Wall" is one of his most popular poems. This poem tells the tale of a rock wall which sits between two properties in the countryside. Something continually destroys this rock wall. A compelling aspect of "Mending Wall" is the Frostian sense of mystery and loneliness. What begins as a quest to discover the identity of the wall-destroyer, ends in a meditation on the value of tradition and boundaries. "Mending Wall" is the first poem in North of Boston, Frost’s second book of poetry. This book was published when Frost was in England, rubbing elbows with the likes of W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, andEzra Pound. Frost was a contemporary of many modernist poetic movements, but he isn’t associated with any particular group of poets. He marched to his own drummer, and as a result, he garnered a good deal of criticism from the literary world. But, it is precisely because he was such an individual and his voice so original that Frost became so beloved. Born in San Francisco, Frost moved to Massachusetts at age eleven following his father’s death. He attended both Dartmouth College and Harvard University, but never earned a college degree. He was, however, often invited to teach at Dartmouth and Harvard later on in his life. You know you’re good when you get to teach college students without having a diploma yourself. After spending some time in England, Frost befriended a lot of poetic giants, including William Butler Yeats...

...times to attest the fact of such events, even in societies living under the full blaze of modern science. The vast mass of such evidence is unreliable, as coming from ignorant, superstitious, or fraudulent persons. In many instances the so-called miracles are imitations. But what do they imitate? It is not the sign of a candid and scientific mind to throw overboard anything without proper investigation. Surface scientists, unable to explain the various extraordinary mental phenomena, strive to ignore their very existence. They are, therefore, more culpable than those who think that their prayers are answered by a being, or beings, above the clouds, or than those who believe that their petitions will make such beings change the course of the universe. The latter have the excuse of ignorance, or at least of a false system of education in their childhood, which has taught them to depend upon such beings for help, and this dependence has no become a part of their degenerate nature. The former have no such excuse. For thousands of years such phenomena have been investigated, studied, and generalised, the whole...
