Chapter I
Introduction

A. Background of the Study "Forgetfulness is accepted as a natural part of getting older, but it might not have to be. Scientists say they have identified an important biological mechanism in the brain that underlies the sorts of memory lapses that come with age"(Goldman,2009).

Over the past century, the mice have developed into the premier mammalian model system for research. Scientists from a wide range of biomedical fields have gravitated to the mice because of its close genetic and physiological similarities to humans, as well as the ease with which its memory can be manipulated and analyzed.

3
3
As a result, scientist conducted research on how to improve the memory of the mice using transitional medicines, drugs and many more. In Columbia, Stephen Small studied about the effects of virus that contained genetic material that boosted production of the protein to improve the memory of mice. They were able to find out that mice have memory lapses called RbA48 deficiencies when they get old. Some studies that is related on improving the memory of the mice are currently conducted in America and Great Britain. There are also some scientist from the Philippines who conducted the same study. Aside from using drugs, the researchers of this study would like to know if Memory Plus Gold powdered capsule can also be an effective memory enhancer for the mice thus memory plus contains Gingco binoba and Bacopa monniera that helps on improving the memory of ones living organisms.

Moreover, this can help the veterinarians here in the Philippines having a hard time with their mice due to misbehavior because of memory lapses. Hence mice do not get Alzheimer’s, but they do experience memory decline as they age. This study will be the answer to the memory problem of the mice.

B. Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine whether Memory Plus Gold Powdered Capsule can be an effective memory enhancer for white mice (Mus musculus). The researchers also want to clarify if there is a significant difference on white mice’s memory before and after the intake of the Memory Plus Gold Powdered Capsule in terms of the speed of the white mice in finding the food.

C. Objectives of the Study
This study aims to achieve the objectives:
1. To determine whether the memory plus gold powdered capsule can be an effective memory enhancer for white mice.
2. To determine the significant difference of the memory of white mice before and after the intake of Memory Plus Gold.

5 D. Significant of the Study
The primary beneficiaries of this study are the citizens of the Philippines especially veterinarians and pet shop entrepreneur. This study can give the readers the knowledge that not only humans can improve their memory but also mice can.
The use of memory plus gold powdered capsule can prevent the risk of the memory lapses of a certain white mice. E. Hypothesis of the Study

There is no significant effect on the memory of white mice before and after the intake of Memory Plus Gold Powdered Capsule.

6
F. Scope and Delimitations
The memory plus gold capsule were bought from the United Pharmacy at Gov. Ramos Street, Sta. Maria Zamboanga City. The white mice were bought from Renz’s Pet shop fronting the Safety Enterprises, Canelar, Zamboanga City The research was conducted at Laureano's Residence located at Saavedra Compound, Lower Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.
The experiment has two (2) different treatments and three (3) replicates to ensure the accuracy of the results. The experiment lasted for five (5) days from March 2, 2015 to March 6, 2015 which includes the preparation and gathering of the materials and testing.
To compute for the significant effect of the memory plus gold powdered capsule for the improvement of the memory of white mice T-test for two Independent sample at 5% level of significance was used to measure the statistical significance of the data. Thus, this study is only tested and proven for mice. There were no other species used aside from white mice.

G. Definition of Terms 1. Memory Plus Gold refers to a natural memory enhancer and brain power builder. It is formulated from the extract of Bacopa monniera (commonly known as Brahmi) developed and patented by the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) in India. It facilitates learning, improves consolidation of learned behavior and delays its extinction by enhancing protein kinase activity and new protein synthesis, particularly in brain cells related to memory. 2. Memory Lapses refers to minor failure of memory slip. 3. White Mice refers to any of numerous small rodent of various families, having small ears and a long thin tail ,esp. an Old World mouse, Mus musculus, introduced worldwide. 4. Alzheimer's Disease refers to a disease of brain that causes people to slowly lose their memory and mental abilities as they grow old.

Chapter V
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, FINDINGS, AND RECOMMENDATION

A. Summary This study aimed to determine whether Memory plus Gold Powdered Capsule can be used as a memory enhancer for white mice which includes two different treatments (First treatment is not introduced with Memory Plus Gold while the second treatment is introduced with it). The study employed the experimental method wherein it includes gathering materials, acquisition of mice, labeling of mice, maze testing for both treatments before the introduction of Memory Plus Gold, Introduction of Memory Plus Gold to treatment no.2, maze testis for both treatments after the introduction of Memory Plus Gold, and observation. The study made used of T-test for Two Independent Sample at 5% level of significance to compute for the statistical significance of the results. The results showed that Memory Plus Gold can be an effective memory enhancer for white mice. In addition, white mice that were introduced with memory plus gold were faster in finding the food inside the maze.

27
Findings
The following were the major findings of the study: 1. Memory plus gold is an effective memory enhancer for white mice thus it enhances well the memory of white mice. 2. There is a significant difference on white mice’s memory before and after the intake of the Memory Plus Gold Powdered Capsule in terms of the speed of the white mice in finding the food.

B. Conclusion
Based on the findings of the study, the researchers therefore conclude that Memory Plus Gold created from Bacopa monniera enhances the memory of the mice in terms of their ability to solve the maze, to navigate, and to search for food. The plant Bacopa monniera highly contributed in the effectiveness of the drug, from which this is supported by the big difference in the speed of white mice introduced with Memory Plus Gold and with no Memory Plus Gold implied that it has the potential to be a memory enhancer, specifically for the mice. The speed was not also consistent, because based from the gathered data, the more times the mice were exposed in the maze the faster they were. Also with each day mice introduced with no Memory Plus Gold tend to go to the exit of the maze faster, rather than the mice with no Memory Plus Gold introduced. From which it can also be said the speed of the mice also dependent on the amount of Memory Plus Gold given to the mice. 28 C. Recommendations For further studies related to this research, the researchers recommended that a comparison of different amounts of Memory Plus Gold be tested. Also, using other animals aside from white mice. The researchers also recommend to use more complicated maze and other products or methods that could possible enhance the memory of animals or white mice. Since the researchers used basic equipment throughout the study, it is recommended that for future studies use more advanced materials and laboratory apparatuses.

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...

...from the student in the classroom. For students who have been exposed only to the traditional teaching methods, this calls for a major change in their approach to learning. This introduction is intended to provide students with some basic information about the case method, and guidelines about what they must do to gain the maximum benefit from the method. We begin by taking a brief look at what case studies are, and how they are used in the classroom. Then we discuss what the student needs to do to prepare for a class, and what she can expect during the case discussion. We also explain how student performance is evaluated in a case study based course. Finally, we describe the benefits a student of management can expect to gain through the use of the case method. WHAT IS A CASE STUDY? There is no universally accepted definition for a case study, and the case method means different things to different people. Consequently, all case studies are not structured similarly, and variations abound in terms of style, structure and approach. Case material ranges from small caselets (a few paragraphs to one-two pages) to short cases (four to six pages) and from 10 to 18 page case studies to the longer versions (25 pages and above). A case is usually a “description of an actual situation, commonly involving a decision, a challenge, an opportunity, a problem or an issue faced by a person or persons in an organization.”1 In learning with case studies, the student must deal with the...
