The video testimony of Nayirah al-Sabah (referred to as Nurse Nayirah) provided for this week’s reading is a great example of how media can shape public opinion. The media placed a great deal of spotlight onto this girl who had endured unbearable pain and suffering under Saddam Hussein’s occupying forces, and was used to enter the U.S. and allies into the Gulf War. The problem is, the story was fabricated. The daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador, how this was allowed to perpetuate for months (interestingly) before the truth was revealed shows the subjective investigative reporting that media conglomerates will engage in. With this tale stemming all the way from the Kuwait government themselves, it is clear that these operations are well-organized
