The Art of Interpersonal Communication

ABSTRACT
The art of interpersonal communication is vital to success in the business world. With the increasing amount of digital communication the skills involved in interpersonal communication are diminishing. However, the business world is made up of people and there is no way to avoid interpersonal communication. There are many forms and uses of interpersonal communication and the mastery of each will enable one to succeed greatly in the business world.
Interpersonal communication is an essential aspect of business management. There are many varied methods of communication and today’s business person is sending more electronic messages than ever before. In order to perfect your leadership skills, however, one must possess a strong ability to send and receive information from employees, upper level managers, and other businessmen and women using the almost lost art of interpersonal communication.
There are many arguments for the importance of mastering the art of interpersonal communication. The Encyclopedia of Communication Theory lists several good reasons in their article, “Interpersonal Communication Theories.”
“IPC is important to study for a number of reasons. First, people create meaning through communication—we learn who we are through communication with others and, more importantly, our communication with others influences how we think about and feel about ourselves. Second, IPC is important for practical reasons—we need to be able to talk to people in order to get things done and make positive impressions. Third, IPC is important to us physically—people who have good interpersonal relationships are physically and mentally healthier. Fourth, humans are social animals, and IPC helps us fulfill our social needs—understanding the IPC process will provide insight into how
