THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
INTRODUCTION
Rationale Both the student and the school consider bullying as one of the major problems that should be dealt with. It randomly chooses people and it happens in every department. The researchers believe that looking for proper solutions would be necessary in order to prevent and solve such problem. Students are often being bullied for their complexion, weight, beliefs, intelligence, preferences, financial status, and language. They are frequently avoided, mocked, and insulted even in normal situations. They are pressured to follow a certain standard, which can limit their capabilities and talents.
Improper solutions are usually applied to encounter this problem. Victims come up with unfavorable decisions for them to ease the discomfort they feel from bullying. Taking drugs, drinking alcohol, sex, murder, and committing suicide are examples of improper solutions that worsen the situation the victims rather than solving it.
Bullying, if no proper solutions are made, will greatly affect the performance of the student not only toward education but also in other aspects. This leads to a poor grade in academics, loss of self-esteem, bad social life, depression, and even death.
One has the tendency to bully if:
- He feels superior to other students. A student who is rich may bully students with financially unstable families.
- He is a victim of bullying. A victim may bully others to let them feel what he is experiencing.
- He wants to be “accepted” in a clique.
- He is bored. Some students view bullying as a form of pleasure.
A bully doesn’t even care of the victims’ feelings as long as he entertains himself. This kind of attitude must be immediately treated in order to prevent further damage to the victim and let both the victim and the bully have a better life in the future.
The researchers chose this topic because he can relate to the victim’s experiences since he was also a victim of bullying. Aside from this, he wants to determine the percentage of University of San Carlos (USC) students who are victims of bullying; the types of bullying one is experiencing the most; and the effects it has to the victims. Lastly, the researchers also chose this topic because it can be beneficial for both the school and the students since it can be a step toward diminishing the cases of bullying in University of San Carlos.
To be in a school with little or without bullying is the best place for students to learn. Without bullying, every student will have a better opportunity to excel in his capabilities and talents. This is very critical for the students because a performance in school is one of the factors that greatly affect their future.
