A Gift and a Curse Many Americans assume that self- image is what the media and ‘Hollywood’ have portrayed and anything other than that is essentially insignificant. Who are we? Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror. But it is counterfeit by the ego of what true image is all about. It is crucial to one’s happiness, wellness, and state of mind on how they view themselves. It is said by many researchers that the viewing of oneself has to be positive or can lead down a path of great destruction. The general public has made it acceptable to consent and use merchandises from certain businesses and productions to hide our unique individuality. Is it any wonder that negative body image is common?

However, children often see violence on television programs such as action movies and cartoons, which can consciously or unconsciously damage them. Would one want their young developing daughter trying to find herself to feel self-conscious because she does not have that peculiar look? Continuing with, the mass media and television have a huge impact on children. There are educational shows that are televised, but there are other ways you can stimulate the brain, such as puzzles, play dough, board games, magazines, cutting and pasting and reading.
