A College Education in Today’s Society Today’s society has given everyone a better opportunity to better themselves through a college education. With jobs being scarce, and the economy being down, choosing to go to college is not only beneficial, but necessary. Community colleges have given those who did not excel in high school a chance to start over, as well as people who cannot afford university tuition costs. Whether you choose a prestigious university or your local community college, having a college education could help you land a better job. Along with having success in the work field, a college education can benefit you internally and socially as well. With the job market the way it is, having a college degree automatically gives you a better chance in receiving a job over someone with only a high school diploma. Just having the college education puts you at better odds, but obtaining a degree is the best way to earn more money. In a 2005 article, it was stated, “The earnings of students who obtain a baccalaureate degree are 10% to 20% higher than the earnings of associate degree holders. In addition, Kane and Rouse found the economic returns associated with a community college degree to be roughly 15% to 25% higher than those associated with a high school diploma.” (Marcotte). This gives an example on the difference between a community college degree and a degree from a four-year university. Having either will likely lead to a person receiving a substantially larger income than someone who has only completed a high school education. If you think about it, would a hiring manager rather hire someone with the highest education completed being high school, or the applicant who has just graduated with an Associate’s degree? More than likely, the latter. The cost of community college has opened

This Is Where We Walked: Film Analysis

...The event that I attended was a film in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, in the Rigas Theater. This took place on Thursday, October 19th, 2017 at 7 pm. The film that was played was titled “Lake of Betrayal The Story of Kinzua Dam.” It was a screening of a new documentary film for national PBS broadcast from Toward Castle Films and Skipping Stone Pictures. The film discussed concern of the events surrounding the construction of the Kinzua Dam on the Allegheny River. The PBS producers and some Seneca residents were there watching the documentary as well. It describes the experiences, the impact, and the future for the Seneca people. There was also an exhibit from the Seneca Iroquois National Museum that was on display in the Quick Center Arts Atrium that is open to the public all that week. It is called “This Is Where We Walked.” It takes a deeper...

...One way we could find the GCD of two integers is by trial and error. Another way is that we could prime factorize each integer, and from the prime factorization, see which factors are common between the two integers. However, both of these become very time consuming as soon as the integers are relatively large. However, Euclid devised a fairly simple and efficient algorithm to determine the GCD of two integers. The algorithm basically makes use of the division algorithm repeatedly. Let’s say you are trying to find the GCD(a,b), where a and b are integers with a ( b > 0 Euclid’s algorithm says to write out the following: a = q1b + r1, where 0 < r < b b = q2r1 + r2, where 0 < r2 < r1 r1 = q3r2 + r3, where 0 < r3 < r2 . . ri = qi+2ri+1+ ri+2, where 0 < ri+2 < ri+1 . . rk-1 = qk+1rk Euclid’s algorithm says that the GCD(a,b) = rk This might make more sense if we look at an example: Consider computing GCD(125, 87) 125 = 1*87 + 38 87. = 2*38 + 11 38. = 3*11 + 5 11 = 2*5 + 1 5. = 5*1 Thus, we find that GCD(125,87) = 1. Let’s look at one more quickly, GCD(125, 20) 125 = 6*20 + 5 20. = 4*5, thus, the GCD(125,20) = 5 Proof That Euclid’s Algorithm Works Now, we should prove that this algorithm really does always give us the GCD of the two numbers “passed to it”. First I will show that the number the algorithm produces is indeed a divisor of a and b. a = q1b + r1, where 0 < r < b b = q2r1 + r2, where 0 < r2...

Multiverse ♥

...There’s this philosopher from the 1890s named William James, and he coined this theory about “the multiverse” which suggests that a hypothetical set of multiple universes comprises everything that can possibly exist simultaneously. Are you following? The entirety of space, time, matter and energy is all happening at once in different timelines: It’s the idea of parallel universes. Right? So okay, let’s presume the multiverse is real. Well then, maybe somewhere in those infinite universes is one, or several, where I deserve you. Maybe there’s a universe out there — happening now — where we end up together and when I close my eyes at night, I’m not dreaming the way a normal person would. Instead I’m seeing flashes of our lives in the multiverse. They’re not simple dreams because I miss you, right? They’re scientific, anachronistic visions. For instance: In this universe, I don’t want a family, but maybe in another, I’m more of the type to settle down. Maybe there’s a universe where you hold my hand while I give birth to our daughter in a white hospital room with pink flowers and fuzzy teddy bears on the window sill. Where we take family vacations and pose for dorky pictures in our neon bathing suits on the sands of a Florida beach. Where we curl up to watch a cheesy movie at the end of a long day in our big, green, suburban house once the kids have fallen asleep. Maybe there’s a universe where we are middle-aged and taking our child to college and bickering over where to put...

Where the Side Walk Ends

...Looking into Where the Sidewalk Ends Have you ever asked questions, or thought about what is behind the scenes. Why does it seems like only children use their imagination anymore? I think the poem, Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein is saying that exact thing. This poem is talking about a place that is peaceful, with no problems. But not just anyone can go to this place, and only the people with the eye to see it realize it is there. The first two line is the poem stats, “ There is a place where the sidewalk ends, and before the street begins,” That right there makes me think automatically this might be about something magical, or something where you have to think outside of the obvious and use your imagination. Which it seems like it gets more and more difficult for people to do these days. To me everything is a yes or a no. Or a straight forward answer this poem is already in the first two lines making me think that maybe there is more out there then what we see to a natural eye, you may just have to look outside of the big picture and see the small pictures. Line thee and four make me think a little bit, the state, “and there the grass grows soft and white, and there the sun burns crimson bright.” This changes up my thought because the grass growing soft and white makes me think it is almost like snow. The grass at this place is not the normal weird color green and itchy like we normally have in our yards, so again this is making me think this place maybe...

Where the Sidewalk Ends

...Mrs. Windsor Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein Where the Sidewalk Ends is a poem wrote by poet and musician Shel Silverstein. Silverstein was born in September, 1930 in Chicago. At the age of 20 he enlisted in the United States Army serving in both Korea and Japan. During his time in service he wrote cartoons for the famous Stars and Stripes magazine. It wasn’t until the late 1950’s to mid 1970’s when Silverstein gained national recognition for his cartoons in Playboy magazine. In 1963 Silverstein teamed up with Ursula Nordstrom a book editor who persuaded him to start writing material for children. As the 1960’s ended and the 70’s began Silverstein composed songs such as “A Boy Named Sue” made popular by the famous musician Johnny Cash. Although he had a very successful career doing other things it was his poems written in both 1974 and 1976, Where the Sidewalk Ends and The Missing Piece making him a famous children’s author. In 1999 after a long and successful career Shel Silverstein passed away at the age of 69 in Key West, Florida. Where the Sidewalk Ends was wrote telling us to allow our past to be left behind and move into the future. As adults we forget how to be free spirited and full of optimism. I myself often wish things in life could have been different, for instance obtaining a college degree right after high school. Our lives are often stressful, we can have good days and bad ones. Silverstein uses many passages throughout this poem telling us...

What Is It

...teams case #46787-35 where Charles Drummer A.K.A snake a local gang ring leader’s body exactly 35.38 ft. from an open window on the 35th floor of a high rise building which we measured was 320 ft. from the ground. The only lead we had was a supposed witness phone call somewhere in the area about a person jumping from a building. We knew the location of the cell phone tower that received the call, the time of the call, that the distance between the cell phone tower to the satellite, which is directly above the cell phone tower and are at the same angle from one another, is 77,975 ft., and that the distance between the cell phone and the satellite was 78,000 ft.. With this information we needed to find out if this was a suicide or a homicide? The first thing we wanted to figure out was if he walked of the build by his own free will or did someone force him out of the window? To get this answer we would need to find out the distance that the victim feel, and we had already gotten this from the officers and the time it took him to reach the ground. To do this we put the information that we got from the police which was, that the victim was 35.38 feet from an open window on the 35th floor, on a 320 ft. high rise building into the falling time formula t=h16. So what we did next was insert the numbers in the proper place, so we replaced 320 with h because it is the height in this situation so we ended up with the equation t=32016 solved it and got t= 4.472. We used another equation...

Global Warming Speech

...Today is the day Ladies and Gentleman! We are gathered here today to discuss one of the greatest subjects in the history of mankind! If we don’t act now, the planet as we know it will never be the same. I am here today, to fight for the future, to fight for the coming generations and to fight for our survival! The world as we know it is changing! Today is the day! The day where we will be united as one. Today is the day where we make use of the endless power and intelligence God gave us upon creation. We will work together as a team, regardless of wealth and poverty, black and white, young and old, gay and straight, disabled and not disabled, to save the future of tomorrow! A study, by scientists at the World Health Organization determined that 154,000 people die every year from the effects of global warming. These numbers could almost double by 2020. This is not acceptable! We can’t just close our eyes, and hope for the best. We made this problem, and we are the only ones who can get us back on track. No nation, however large or small, wealthy or poor, can escape the impact of climate change. Rising sea levels threaten every coastline and families are already being forced to flee their homes as climate refugees. More powerful storms and floods threaten every continent. Katrina as well as the tsunami in 2004 was just the beginning. Fellow citizens! Is this really a place for our children to live, to grow up? You and I may not feel the consequences of the climate change...

Psi Phenomena

...and the mind. We are going to look at the three classes of psi phenomena, which are mental phenomena, physical phenomena and survival phenomena. Mental Phenomena These often refer to extra sensory perceptions. In this situations people claim to send and receive information without the use of the normal five senses. They have uncommon mental capabilities. We look at some of these below. Telepathy In this event people are able to transfer thought from one mind to another without using any known form of communication. In 2014, Neuroscientist Carlos Grau (University of Barcelona) set up an experiment where some subjects in India were able to transfer information to others in France. He was able to prove the existence of telepathy. They used what they referred to as Neurological More Code. (Grau Carlos, 2014) Xenoglossy In this situation, people are able to speak languages they are not familiar with. They do not have prior exposure to the language that is they have not heard or learnt it before. We find evidence of this in the Bible (Acts2: 1-4) where the disciples were gathered and were able to speak in foreign tongues. This is often practiced in the religion of Christianity. (Bible). In other studies, a woman was hypnotized and while in the trance she was able to speak Swedish and sounded like somebody else. They linked this to reincarnation claiming she must have been that other person in a previous life. (Vintini, 2013) Possession This where a person’s body...

Scott Community High School Research Paper

...SCHS Active Shooter and Intruder Problem Where do we go, what do we do, should we hide or run, do we defend ourselves or just hope for the best. This is a problem, everywhere we go is a danger, no where is safe. No matter what anyone says there will always be danger. Scott Community High School, an amazing school, built very neatly, in the town of Scott City, KS. This high school well taken care of, but built not so well for safety of the students or teachers. For instance, we have way to many entries, and windows. In other words, the school is two floors, plus a downstairs. SCHS amazes me looks very ancient on the outside, but the inside so beautiful. Since the school is very big and has plenty of open spaces, an intruder or active shooter can easily come in. We have doors where teachers and students are never at. For example, a student can go crazy, also they know every entrance in the school and where teachers are at all times. Besides they know when the passing periods of classes are as well. First of all, we have four rooms that lead to the halls, windows or absolutely nothing. The school has a little picnic area that...

The Medium Is the Massage

...others affairs, this allows for the person to form an altered identity to portray to their audience, and breaks down the barriers of privacy. This lack of privacy has created a movement in our daily lives, a movement in which technology and social media has molded our environment to the point where it has ultimately become our environment. We have unknowingly created a global village in which the individual is put on display and where we as a human race have become overly connected, and overly critical. It is shaping the way in which we perceive ourselves, and the rest of the world. “Too many people know too much about each other. Our new environment compels commitment and participation. We have become irrevocably involved with, and responsible for, each other” (McLuhan 24). Every day, during lunch I cant help but glance up from my plate of food and notice the mass amounts of people checking their phones. It has been shown that the average person checks their phone every six and a half minutes, and can check their phone up to 150 times a day! (Spencer 2013). The cell phone has developed so rapidly over the past ten years that we are now able to look and talk to a significant other face to face through a screen. We no longer send letters in the mail, or send a postcard “Because of electric speed, we can no longer wait and see. George Washington once remarked, “We haven’t heard from Benj. Franlin in Paris this year. We should write him a letter” (McLuhan 63). This rapid development...

...Prevent, Poor and Performance has given a lot of positive outcome towards our current issues in life. As when we try to figure out where we will end up in the future years, this ideology goes to work. Knowingly, before we can set out a plan, we need to know where we want to end up. What position do we want to be in later in life? Do we have a 5 year, 10 year, and 20 year plan? What position do we want to be in when we retire? For that matter, when do we want to retire? Having a financial plan also helps us manage our money better and actually helps us make it stretch to achieve all the things we want in life. Financial planning helps us know where our money goes and how to keep money in our pocket or account for longer. We know what we want our money to do for us because we have taken the time to work it out in advance. Prior planning means that we avoid unnecessary and reckless spending on things we don’t really need. (Haven’t we all done that at some time?) We will know how much we can spend at any time and what our credit limits as to prevent shortage of money before we get to the end of the month. In conjunction with financial planning, there a few steps need to be taken in awareness. The first step is to work out what we want, what is important to us and what we want our financial future to look like. Investigate our personal values – those beliefs that we have about what is right and good. Most people make their decisions based on what they value. Sit down with our...

What We Eat

...What we put into our bodies is our choice. However, have you ever stopped to think about where the food you buy at the local supermarket comes from? When we think we are eating healthy are we really making the right choices? What about where does the food from the supermarket comes from? How did it get to the supermarket before it made its way into your shopping cart? These are all questions we want to think about when we make food choices. Not only do we want to make right choices but we also want our choices to have a positive outcome on our community. Supermarkets are usually stocked via grocery suppliers or grocery wholesalers. One of my local chain supermarkets, Shaw’s, has different vendors that they use. Their website does not list the different vendors but it has access to their policies and how they choose their vendors. A Consumers International report from July 2012 says that supermarkets buy from suppliers and then sell to consumers. Supermarkets have both retailer and buyer power which means they have influence on both suppliers and consumers. “The more supermarkets buy, the better terms they get. The better terms they get, the more they sell.” (Nicholson, C. & Young, B., 2012). If I were to purchase all the items for my meal, chicken, lemon, rice, mushrooms, greens, almonds, wheat roll, butter, milk, and apple crisp, from Shaw’s Supermarket I would not know where any of my items were being sourced from. I would not know how long...

We plan to distribute our products nationally and intemal if possible. The internal potential growth of the business is that it will be successful because within the time, the business will offer new line of products like coffee. Also the business will be able to put other branches in Benque and so have more profits. In addition, games for kids could be an advantage to call the attention of kids and so the parents go the business and buy. Furthermore, the workers can be trained more so they have more knowledge of their work. The external potential of the business is to merge with another business in order to obtain more customers and have a lot of sales. For instance, it can merge with an ice-cream shop where lots of people will go and buy to the shop. With all these causes then the business will be able to help organizations in the country and help with the development of the industry. For example, the venture will then be able to invest money in making playgrounds for children and fixing roads within the community. The Marketing Segment First of all, there is competition that exist everywhere when setting a business in the San Ignacio area. On the Spatial Predictability

...)/10 fΥMP 10(x+ΥMP, dB )/10 . 10 Some experimental measurements have also suggested Gaussian to be a good enough yet simple fit for the distribution of ω(q) [17]. We will take advantage of this Gaussian simplification later in our framework. As for the shadowing variable, log-normal is shown to be a good match for the distribution of ΥSH (q). Then, we have the following zero-mean Gaussian pdf 2 1 for the distribution of ν(q): fν (x) = √2πα e−x /2α , where α is the variance of the shadowing variations around path loss. Characterizing the spatial correlation of ω(q) and ν(q) is also considerably important for our model-based channel prediction framework. However, we do not attempt to predict the multipath component, ω(q), due to the fact that it typically decorrelates fast and that the form of its correlation function can change considerably, depending on the angle of arrival and position of the scatterers. Therefore, in our proposed framework we only predict the path loss and shadowing components of the channel. The impact of multipath will then appear in the characterization of the prediction error variance, as we shall see. As for the spatial correlation of shadowing, [18] characterizes an exponentially-decaying spatial correlation function, which is widely used: E ν(q1 )ν(q2 ) = α e− q1 −q2 /β , for q1 , q2 ∈ K where α denotes the shadowing power and the correlation distance, β, controls the spatial correlation of the channel [18]. For some examples of a time-varying environment...
