On this quest, I have come upon a large American Romantic oil painting by Thomas Cole for your hunting room. The painting incorates aspects of nature such as flowing rivers and creeks,and exhibits hunters tracking animals in a lust forest. The artist depicts an early morning scene of a harsh mountainous landscape, where early civilization begins to form a community within a treacherous forest. Dark earthy colors of green and brown cover the timberland, while murky blues and grays distinguish the ocean shoreline and the thunderstorm among the distant mountains. In the background of the painting dusty pinks and blues form the sky of the rising sun, while beams of light begin to hit the mountain peak. In the distance, the unruffled ocean meets the pale gold morning horizon. As the sun rises in the east it appears to push away the gloomy storm clouds which mask the seabank and west side of the mountain. Connected to the bay is a narrow river, which runs across the whole painting then off the right side of the canvas. At the mouth of the river, two wooden canoes sit beached in the still water. Several village men have already started fishing in the stronger current, and seemingly deeper water further upriver. Just a short hike from the river a wide dirt path at leads to the top of a small plateau, where the trees have been cleared and dirt shows through the grass because of frequent foot travel. Seven teepees create a half circle formation, with the backs facing the river and doors facing a vast forest leading to the mountain. In the center of the circle a great fire roars with flames emitting a massive amount of smoke into the air. Around this fire, many villagers dance while others gather to watch the show.
