A.What Green’s personal characteristics (some possibilities = self awareness, strengths,weaknesses,personality,values) and how well does he fit with the new role at Dynamic Displays, his manager Frank Davis, and the organization?
Self-awareness is about understanding your own needs, desires and failings. The more you know about yourself, the better you are at adapting life changes that suit your needs. Self-awareness is one of the key ideas for career success. No matter what profession you are in, it’s important to be able to lead, manage and get along with your colleagues. Thomas Green seems like he is fully self aware of what he wants to achieve in life. It also seems like he was trying to find balance between is personal life and work life and wasn’t doing very well. When he decided he wants to take up the promotion from beinf an account executive to a senior market specialist Dynamic Displays, he wasn’t fully aware of what the demand of the position is. He decided to take up the job intuitively. Form the article it is evident that green did not have enough managerial skills to be promoted to the position of a senior market specialist.
B. In terms of career management, what has Green done well and not so well?
Although Green knew he had little experience, he knew how to put his network and personal connections with Shannon McDonald to good use. He made multiple trips to Shannon McDonald at headquarters and outlined the client opportunities he saw and his strategies for acquiring the client base. In no time he acquired a advance position of a senior market specialist at Dynamic Displays.

Green knew right from the start that he lacked the managerial skills to be successful in the position of a senior market specialist, which McDonald pointed out. McDonald even advised that Green should take help from his seniors to improve on his skills but its evident from the article that he never really took that advice seriously. Even thought Green was focused to succeed in his position, he did not really pay attention to the management’s way of getting work done. Frank Davis’s made it clear from the first meeting how he wanted Green to go about completing his tasks. Green made direct disagreements with Frank Davis while at the meeting for marketing projections, failed to support his boss’s projections and confronted him publicly and did not seek to understand who has the power in his workplace. When Davis had a performance meeting with Green a month after assuming his new job role as Senior Market Specialist, Davis outlined many simple tasks that Green failed to execute like update his outlook calendar daily, update Frank Davis of his where about. When questioned why he failed, Green had no legitimate response for why they weren’t completed instead his response was that they he did not think it was of any value and they were ambiguous. He clearly failed to convince his boss of his commitment towards his job and the organization. He also seems like he did not want to adjust to his new position requirements and continued working on his old techniques. After the meetng, Green decided to take the comments as a personal attack and avoided any further interactions with Frank Davis. After this incident, Green went public with his dislike towards Frank Davis that he started telling people outside of how much he dislikes Frank and he doesn’t agree with his analysis of the projections. Due to this conflict, Green worked independently most of the time when he should have seeked help from his managers to improve on his skills.

C. What are your recommendations for Green to help him better manage his career.
First recommendation for Green is to make things work with rank Davis. He should have realized that gaining Frank’s trust was his top priority, as he knew that Frank was not very keen oh his promotion. He should start off by apologizing to Frank for being disrespectful and trying to prove him wrong in front of the whole team. He should then consider all the remarks made by Frank Davis as a means to improve rather than take it as a personal attack. He should also consider backing up his claims with properly documented facts and figures rather than be verbal about it.He should also produce more visual data for client meetings in the form of spread sheets and PowerPoint slides.. He should follow exactly how Frank wants him to work like updating his outlook calendar regularly, updating Frank on client improvements. He should also consider taking Frank’s assistance and suggestions as when necessary as he is more experienced and has been at Green’s position before. This way he can gain Frank’s trust in his work and get his on his side. With all the negative emails sent out to Shannon McDonald by Frank Davis about Green’s performance, he should consider meeting with Shannon and explaining to her why the situation has arisen and what is his plan on mending his relationship with Frank. Green should also consider apologizing to her for letting her down and make sure she is also updated with his progress and his relation with Frank. Green should also attend all the educational workshops offered at Dynamic Displays to improve his skills to perform better in the future.
