From what I hear you stand in there with your mask on, and then you have to take it off for about thirty seconds before you can exit the room. I guess people tend to pass out and throw up everywhere. So it could be some fun! I wish we could do some more repelling or shooting, but that’s not for a couple weeks. I just want to be out of this stupid place and get my phone and everything back. But I just have to be tough for a few more weeks and then it will all pay off. Guess what? I tried to steal a piece of pie in the dining hall at dinner because I wanted something sweet, but I got caught. So now I get no pie at all. They are so strict on what you can eat, you can’t even but Gatorades out of the vending machines. It’s so lame! And as soon as I get off the shuttle to the airport I am buying some candy and a coke. On the one hand, the department’s officers risk their lives on a daily basis to enforce the law, protect the public and preserve the peace. On the other hand, Chicago has a checkered history of police scandals and an embarrassingly long list of police officers who have crossed the line to engage in brutality, corruption and criminal activity. An analysis of five decades of news reports reveals that since 1960, a total of 295 Chicago Police officers have been convicted of serious crimes, such as drug dealing, beatings of civilians, destroying evidence, protecting mobsters, theft and murder. Moreover, the listing of police convicted of crimes undoubtedly underestimates the problem of corruption in the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The list does not include undetected and unreported illegal activity, serious misconduct resulting in internal disciplinary action, and officers who retire rather than face charges. The keynote speaker for the event was embattled U.S. House Majority Leader, Representative Tom De Lay. After his speech, De Lay was joined on stage by Lee Hamel dressed as Davy Crockett in full buckskin attire and a coonskin hat. Hamel presented De Lay with a handcrafted flintlock rifle that he had made for the event with his mentor, Cecil Brooks. The presentation of the reproduction rifle to De Lay is part of a long NRA tradition that began in 1955 when Walt Disney‟s Davy Crockett series first appeared on television.
