Those Few Minutes
Maybe she was born this way. Maybe she has to be crazy to love the sport, to love gymnastics. It destroys her body. It takes up nearly all of her life all for a few seconds on the mats. Sometimes she has to ask herself, “Is it worth it?” She always answers yes. Those few minutes mean the world to her. Whether she walks off or has to be carried off, the pain endured on those mats will always be worth those few minutes. If she loses or if she wins, whether her routine falls apart or marks perfection, those mats are worth it. That is why she gives everything while competing. The rush of air as she flies through the air, the sound of the excited crowd arises the second she sticks her landing. She smiles widely even when she aches from pain, because of these few moments. She will give her last few minutes on the floor with the realization that these minutes meant everything to her and that provides the motivation to give everything she has.
When she is competing she can feel it. The blood rushing to her face, she feels the nerves that are seemingly impossible to control. Her legs and hands shake, for fear of making a devastating mistake. Her success all depends on the performance she can give in such a minuscule amount of time. On December 3rd, 2010, she went to Regionals. Her goal was to score perfectly on beam. She counted to three, inhaled, and mounted the beam. Drops of sweat beaded up on her forehead. It was halfway through her routine, when she fell on her front walkover. Her first foot landed at the perfect angle. However, her second foot missed the beam completely. Her whole left side of her leg burned from sideswiping the beam; the skin was beginning to peel off. Quickly, she became overwhelmed, flustered, she told herself to stop before she humiliated herself even more. The silence of the audience was unbearable. It was as if everyone could hear her thoughts. A tear ran sheepishly down her cheek as she realized how much she had progressed in gymnastics. After all, she had made it to Regionals. This thought had convinced her, she decided to give it her all and not quit. She leaped effortlessly back on the beam and proceeded with her routine. Echoes of the crowd’s encouraging cheers and screams replaced the dead silence that had once filled the room. She nailed what was left of her routine with a victorious smile stretching from ear to ear. Her nerves were uncontrollable, but she could tell the scores had been posted from the gasping faces and gaping mouths she had seen surrounding her. Slowly she turned her head to catch a glimpse of the surprising news. Her eyes caught a large familiar screen with glowing yellow lights that lit up her score. Unbelievably, she had placed third in the region.
She was standing on the raised platform with her medal loosely dangling around her neck, bouncing off her chest with every exasperated breath she took. The pride from her was commitment was a miraculous feeling she had never felt before in her life. While standing glorious and tall on her throne of success she made a promise to herself. She made a promise to make the minutes worthwhile, no matter few. Also, to make that moment worthy of the crowd, the judges, the little girl in the leotard, for the girls wishing they could be in your position. She would compete for those people. Most importantly, she would compete for herself. She would strive to show herself that she could have a perfect routine. She pledged to compete through suffering and when she is older and she looks back, she will realize those few moments made her who she is today.

Escape Reality

...Escape Reality Your mind drifts off for those few moments, the emotions felt when the world around has been forgotten. For those few moments, all of the trouble, misery, and mislead government… is forgotten. The fight, and the charismatic Muhammed Ali, gave the people of Zaire something to believe in for those few weeks before the fight. The fight itself brought two completely different cultures and countries together. Culturally, Politically, and Socially, we as a society are vastly different from the culture of Zaire. Muhammed Ali brings unity to Zaire throughout 1974. PolyGam, the producer of this documentary chooses to show cultural differences. Zaire throws their lifestyle in the culture. The soothsayer shows up several times throughout the documentary. She remains a constant reminder that they are in fact in Zaire and that Muhammed Ali embraces the culture of Zaire. The soothsayer is a fundamental aspect of their culture. The soothsayer, is the fortune teller who performs and tells the audience what the future will hold for Zaire. Julia's Tribute

...For those of you that don't know me my name is Brittany. I work at The Willows at Citation where I took care of Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find the good in a lousy situation. The interesting thing is that bar is constantly moving. That thing that may have seemed completely insignificant a few months ago, can suddenly become the joy that gets...

And Then There Where Three

...And Then There Was Three Jason M Copeland ITT Tech “Love doesn’t erase the past. It makes the future different”- Gary Chapman Very few moments can define a man’s life and the path he takes. December 18, 2012 was one of those defining moments in my life. It was no longer just about me and my needs, yes I worried about my wife and family, but they could take care of themselves. The day my son was born had to be one of the most exciting and scariest days of my life. I didn’t know what to expect, how I was supposed to care for this little human being. A split second changed my life forever. Until that moment happened I had no idea what my life was going to be like having someone that depended on me for their every need. When my wife told me she was pregnant, I was excited, but it just seemed surreal. I went to the doctor appointments, I was there for the ultrasounds. I was ecstatic the first time I felt him kick. My wife had complications so I was at the hospital every time the doctor sent her for observations. In the months leading up to my son’s birth I was there every step of the way, but I was just an observer. My wife was doing it all, nothing for me really changed. The day started out like any other induction day for millions of other parents. We arrived at the hospital bright and early, my wife filled out some paperwork, the nurses hooked up her iv, started the Pitocin drip, and her labor began. The rest of the morning, afternoon and early afternoon was a lot...

...« -Please…please…No! Have mercy! » As he was slowly walking towards the crawling creature in front of him, he thought to himself, has it been always this easy? The answer came to him instantly. Yes, always and forever said the wicked voice inside of his mind, the one which seemed to wake up when he was being self-conscious. Yes, it has always been delightfully easy for him. As far as he can remember, he always had innate tendencies to be charming, deceitful, and of course, discrete in his skillful work. Now came another one of those specific moments, where the hunter and the hunted came to face each other, in the truth of their humanity. She would see the monster in front of her, the beautiful magnificent predator that he was. And he would see the -almost childlike- fearful woman, devoid of all the femininity that she was selling, make up smudging her face because of the tears, and which would be begging for her life till the very end. This one had been particularly easy to lure. Usually, the women were instructed to take their business in their rooms, or in cheap hotels arranged for such purpose. Yet, his persuasive talents were perfect, and they would always come with him wherever he wanted. This one, the one begging for her life, and crawling in front of him in a desperate attempt to escape, came with him without a fuss. They were in his favorite place, the old industrial district. The place was perfect, and fit for his favorite hobby. The old shady buildings and the...

Black October-The Missing Moment In African American History

... no color, no regrets, no anger, no disagreements, no pain, no shame and lots of hope. I never thought that “one million plus” strong black men could dare to come together from all over the United States with one purpose and one passion; atonement and reconciliation. Black October, The Missing Moment occurred in Washington, D.C. on October 16, 1995. This was a mission called Million Man March; led by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, of the Nation of Islam; on the National Mall. WE (Black Men) were all equal leaders that day of the original Million Man March. It was a significant moment in African American history, a “Missing Moment.” History has shown us time and time again that true change engages momentum when we experience a “defining moment.” As we continue to embrace the “defining moment” changes are destined to occur without much additional effort and progress will be realized. It is at this time we can look back and call the change that occurred as a defining moment, a pivotal moment, “Black October - The Missing Moment”...

Love

...Love is the Cement that strengthens the bond between humans. For me Itself, in itself cannot be defined with some few words. Though Today..the true significance has slightly changed or in other words we can say state of mind of people has changed. But it’s meaning has not changed. The only things got changed is the attitude and behaviour of people.Love is Ofter Searched through Dating Websites (In some cases it works out well but In most it doesn’t ) Love Is Developed over a Long Period of time. Yes there are. Yes, there are those few cases of "love at first site," but this is a very rare occurrence and shouldn't be someone's first priority to claim their love the first moment they see themLove is when you would do anything to be able to see this person. It is when you jump in front of a car and push your love out of the way to save their life. It is when you can't stand one moment without him/her. It is when you think about him/her the first moment you wake up and the last second before you sleep at night. Love can not be duplicated. Love is love and everything else. The word should not be thrown around like a piece of meet, but preserved for that special someone who will not leave you for another woman or man and would do anything for you to be with them and you the same. Save the word for the right person. Preserve the meaning of love and use it towards those who deserve...

Defining Moments

...Being a manager is hard. Throughout his book, “Defining Moments”, Joseph L. Badaracco Jr. explains the challenges managers face when making decisions on a daily basis and provides a framework for how to tackle those challenges. Early on, Badaracco explains how decisions between right and right (as opposed to right and wrong) are often the most difficult. Decisions like this can be seen as ‘defining moments’ because, according to Badaracco, they reveal, test, and shape a manager’s personal values as well as those of their organization. They also cause managers to come away with ‘dirty hands’, the unfortunate side effect of choosing one ‘right’ option over the other. It is how Badaracco puts these decisions in perspective that sets this book apart from other ethical decision-making books. ‘Defining Moments’ goes on to introduce a few real world cases that exemplify right versus right dilemmas. These examples demonstrate certain challenges that manager’s face, as well as serve to impress upon the reader the idea that there is almost never a clear-cut solution. The first case is that of Steve Lewis, a black analyst asked to represent his company’s diversity at a special presentation. The issue lies in whether he should sacrifice his personal values to satisfy his company’s request. Lewis’ case reveals how conflicts of personal integrity and moral identity shape one’s ultimate decision. A lot of thought must be given to choices that involve a matter of personal values in terms of...

When I Frist Saw Him

...WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM Two desolate people – a misery shared can be a misery halved? I was taking my usual evening walk in the park... wallowing in self-pity is what most people would call it. Of course my family understood; they all told me that – time and again and this gave me great comfort. But then they would say the same stupid things like: "You'll get over it Carol." or "But life has to go on, you have to try and forget Gary and the way that he treated you." Oh they thought they were being good to me; and considerate with these words... but all they were actually doing to me... were destroying me. I was making my way to my seat by the river, so that I could have my usual cry in peace; with no one to disturb me. I walked around the last turn on the path and the seat came into view. My heart sank, usually there was no one around at this time of the autumn evening, but tonight... someone had stolen my refuge. I felt resentment towards the person sitting on the seat. It was a man, a tramp by the looks of him, it was quite dark, but there was a light not far away from him so that I had a good view. He was holding a bottle in one hand and as I watched he lifted it and took a gulp from it. Not only a tramp, but a drunk as well! I started to turn in disgust, but as I did so, something about the man made me turn back again. He was sitting with his head down a totally dejected look about him. He looked how I felt, and my heart went out to him in mutual...

Life

...Everyone shut your eyes, take two deep breaths and picture this scene taking place many years into the future: you are in an elegant dining hall, surrounded by those closest to you (who are dressed beautifully, looking their best). The candles shimmer on every table and the importance of the evening wafts through the air like the aromas from the kitchen. This is your testimonial dinner, an opportunity for the people who know you best to speak about you as a person, your achievements and your contributions to those you love and to society in general. Just for a moment, reflect on what you would like them to say. This reflection my friends; is the perfect life you want for yourself. And how many of us are actually living our perfect life..? There are two competing schools of thought. One says go out there live your dream, be the best, play at your highest potential. And the other says that the purpose of life is to simply enjoy the journey, simply be happy, and live in the moment. When you think about these two schools, you realize that both are equally important, life is all about the balance. It’s important to reach for the mountain top, to keep your eye on the summit to realize your potential but at the same time it’s incredibly important to enjoy the climb up the mountain, to enjoy the journey, to live in the moment. Challenges on Marketing

...of economic times and perhaps even more during those times, the dream of starting a new business venture burns brightly in many people’s minds. The advantages of having a small online business range from lower start-up costs than brick-and-mortar operations to more streamlined administration. But successfully running an online business is far from easy. The moment a business decides to enter the online world, the very first challenge is creating a reliable website. A good designer can accomplish this, but a high-quality website is more than just visual attraction; it should also function smoothly and be designed for carrying out business. So the first issue that we faced is lack of computer expertise. We needs to possess more than a basic knowledge of the Internet to do business online. Necessary skills include knowing how to set up a website for business purposes and how to market our business online. Instead of this, we had do observation or google searching and read for relevant article or teaching materials either technology resources or visitor engagement resources. Another issue is limitations of business types. Some types of businesses may not be suited for the Internet, particularly those products involve the use of the senses. For example, if the unique selling point of our product is its pleasant aroma. After we decides to selling snacks online we just realise that we are facing this problem.
