The author will analyse the commander’s role in the Thredbo landslide and Pike River Mine tragedies. Thredbo Village is situated in the Australian Alps, New South Wales. Thredbo is a ski resort and local village in the snowy mountains and attracts large numbers of visitors during the winter as it has the longest ski runs in Australia. At around 11:30pm on the 30th of July 1997, an extensive resonant rumble shuddered the quiet sleeping residents of Thredbo. Around 10,000 tonnes of rock, trees and mud had disintegrated from the slope on the side which lead into another ski town known as Carinya Ski Lodge (Pike, 2013).
