If you go to the doctors with an cold he/she will more than likely ask how much you have went in and out in the cold and warmth each day before you have got the cold. I would just suggest to just stay inside as much as possible that away you do not take the chance of getting a sore throat and an cough.

Second way you can keep healthy is eat healthy. Eat your fruits and vegetables and get exercise. I know what you are thinking how do I get exercise when it’s cold outside, you could go to the gym. Don’t discourage yourself

Observation And Exercise Analysis

...Health Project Over the course of a two week period we had to conduct an experiment as a class. For the first three days of the experiment we had to eat, sleep and exercise like we would normally, then after those three days we had to try to cut back on our added sugar intake, sleep longer, and increase our daily activity. Everyday we wrote down what foods we ate, how much added sugar we estimated was in them, how much sleep we got, and how much physical activity we did. We also wrote down our moods, productivity, and overall well being for that day. For the first three days my average added sugar intake was: about 27 grams. I wasn’t very health conscious , I would eat whatever was most convenient, because I wouldn't have enough time to sit down and really focus on eating. On all three days I skipped breakfast, and ate larger meals for lunch and dinner. I would also only drink ice tea, I would maybe drink a cup of water, if that. I wouldn’t really snack, but when I did it wasn’t really healthy. My sleep pattern was all but satisfactory, I averaged about 6 1/2 hours of sleep a night, including naps. The typical amount of sleep a college student needs is about 7-8 hours of sleep per night. I often found myself dozing...

...fluid, body cell components and our metabolism and its process. Constant internal environment means that the chemical and physical composition should remain within a limited range in order to make it as effective as possible. Keeping the valuables within a limited range not only makes sure that the body’s processes are as effective as possible, keeping the well-being of the whole body and its maintenance up to good standards. Heart rate Negative feedback is a way in which regulation occurs within the body which requires receptors, your control centre and effectors in order to be able to function properly. When key variables within the body are outside the accepted range for any reason negative feedback returns the variable within it’s acceptable range. An example would be if the PH of your blood changes for any reason or you become too hot after exercise so your body tries to regulate those variables back within the suitable ranges by different methods. Blood glucose levels may fall for any reasons and the bodies way of coping with this is to produce liver glycogen which is converted into glucose in order to bring the energy levels in cells back up to the range which it should be within. Our brain and nervous system are involved in negative feedback and play vital roles in controlling the homeostatic mechanisms within our bodies and they also allow us to have a reasonable judgement at when our key variables may rise. An example would be when we have not eaten for several hours...

Hello Everyone!

...am very excited about finishing high school and continuing on to college. Hopefully I will be able to get accepted and attend Old Dominion University. I want to create realistic goals and stay focus on my goals, the more I stay focused on them the better chance I have of achieving them. My first two years of high school I attended Varina High School when I was living with my father. I’ve been living with my dad since I was about seven years old, at the age of sixteen I moved with my mother when she got her own house. I have a total of 5 siblings; two of which is just my dad’s and three which is my mom’s. I love my family; I think family is very important. On my dad side I have two younger brothers, I’m the oldest and the only girl, so basically get everything I want. However, on my mom side I have one older brother and two younger sisters and of course the baby girl always gets her way. The last few years, I’ve been trying to decide the perfect career for me. I wanted to choose something that would allow me to help others as well as contribute a healthy lifestyle and personal wellness. The career path I’ve chosen to seek is dentistry. I became interested in being a dentist because I recently had braces and my orthodontist really left a lasting impression. Not to mention the fact that healthy teeth and gums are a vital part of personal wellness. I’ve always admired pretty teeth. Sleeping Disorders Research Paper

...Insomnia is a sleeping disorder which keeps the person from being able to fall asleep. In a study by Carol Everson published in 1989, they deprived rats of sleep for around a month and the rats deprived of sleep all died, the rats only simply had to be denied the ability of going into REM sleep (Stickgold 2015). This is an extreme example of insomnia but demonstrates the severity of not sleeping and the strain it can cause on the body. Sleep apnea is another sleeping disorder, the most common of this disorder is obstructive sleep apnea, which is when relaxed muscles repeatedly close off the airway during sleep; the person wakes just enough to take a gasping breath. (Sleep Apnea 2015). Someone who suffers from sleep apnea commonly will be obese and snore loudly. Sleep apnea is a disorder that I personally have and before being diagnosed experienced many of the issues that come from sleep deprivation. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was in eighth grade, before this I never snored and had a pretty healthy sleep schedule, I was able to wake up around 6am every day never feeling...

School Should Start Later

...they only get about seven hours of sleep, to have students be coming into school at 7:30AM or maybe even earlier in some other schools, is not right. Students need to have time at night to get work done, not only schoolwork but also non-schoolwork. Needless to say, the school schedule for high school students needs to be changed and be made where they go in later. That way they get their work done and get enough sleep because without much sleep students will not be getting high grades. A health survey that the University Health Center administered showed them that one in four students say that lack of sleep has affected their academic performance in a bad way (“Sleep Rocks”). Sleep deprivation impairs students’ ability to be alert, pay attention, solve problems, cope with stress, and retain information. Academic performances on students are low due to lack of sleep. For the 1997-1998 school year, the University of Minnesota conducted a study on Minneapolis high schools. Their starting times were changed from 7:15 to 8:40. The results of this change were obvious. Teachers reported that students were more alert during the first two periods of the day and that attendance improved by five percent. After such a...

Windshield Survey Summary and Reflection

...Windshield Survey Summary and Reflection Windshield surveys are conducted to observe different aspects of a community. The information obtained from driving through the community allows the observer to gain a better understanding of the community including culture, housing, and signs of decay just to name a few. This paper focuses on the family I selected, the overall impression of the family’s community and environment, and my observations about cultural diversity and vulnerable populations within this community. Three aspects of the community that affect residents’ health and one Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicator that is relevant to the community are also explored. Community Community is defined as “a group of people, often living in a defined geographical area, who may share a common culture, values and norms, and are arranged in a social structure according to relationships which the community has developed over a period of time” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012, p. 397). Community health focuses on a specific geographical area instead of concentrating on people with similar values and qualities. Community health nurses provide care that promotes the health and well-being of the community they serve. This fact encompasses the idea of community as a client. Oftentimes health related issues of individuals are similar to others in the community. By working with individuals, families and groups within a community, the nurse is providing care that will ultimately benefit...

Three things I learnt during the practicum period is the importance of knowing how to handle stress,, the true meaning of the words, passion and patience, and the pressure of being an early childhood educator. * Reflections of my experience: * The importance of knowing how to handle stress. I was stressed out during this period as I felt that I didn’t have enough time, energy and hands to complete so many things at the same time. I was on the verge of breaking down at certain time during that period. Luckily for me, I had supportive family, friends and workmates. They helped me as much as they can and also gave me motivation and encouragement to push on no matter how demoralised or tired I feel. To complicated things, one of my family members was hospitalised during this period due to a viral infection. I had to rush to hospital every night if I dun have any night class. I was so tired that I could fall sleep as long I am seated down. To look back now and realised how much stronger I am now due to what I went through to get here. Now with my Practicum and Parent Teacher Conference over and my family member are healthy again, I am thankful for the experience. Nutrition and Life Style

...generates beta waves, which are about twice as fast. During sleep, two slower patterns called theta waves and delta waves take over. Theta waves have oscillations in the range of 3.5 to 7 cycles per second, and delta waves have oscillations of less than 3.5 cycles per second. As a person falls asleep and sleep deepens, the brainwave patterns slow down. The slower the brainwave patterns, the deeper the sleep -- a person deep in delta wave sleep is hardest to wake up. At several points during the night, something unexpected happens -rapid eye movement (REM) sleep occurs. Most people experience three to five intervals of REM sleep per night, and brainwaves during this period speed up to awake levels. If you ever watch a person or a dog experiencing REM sleep, you will see their eyes flickering back and forth rapidly. In some people, arms, legs and facial muscles will twitch during REM sleep. Periods of sleep other than REM sleep are known as NREM (non-REM) sleep. REM sleep is when you dream. If you wake up a person during REM sleep, the person can vividly recall dreams. You must have both REM and NREM sleep to get a good night's sleep. A normal person will spend about 25 percent of the night in REM sleep, and the rest in NREM. A REM session lasts five to 30 minutes. Medicine can hamper your ability to get a good night's sleep. Many medicines, including most sleeping medicines, change the quality of sleep and the REM component of it. One way to understand why we sleep is to look at what...
