The book I chose to use to teach about the topic of diverse cultures is called, “Throw Your Tooth on the Roof: Tooth Traditions from Around the World,” written by Selby Beeler. This story tells about how different cultures around the world celebrate what us in the United States call, tooth fairy. Each of the cultures does a tradition when a child loses a tooth for example, in Botswana children throw their tooth on the roof, and in Egypt they fling their teeth at the sun. Activity’s I would use with this book include are first a graphic organizer to use for the beginning, middle, and end of the book. The first part of the graphic organizer has students write what questions they have before reading the book, and what they see in the pictures.
