Tim Meeker’s brother, Sam, comes back from college and tells everyone that he has enlisted in the Continetal army, which supports American colonies to be free from England. His parents were upset because Tim and Sam’s dad, Eliphalet Meeker, is a loyalist, who supports England. While Sam’s parents are disgusted with his decision, Tim is very proud and admirable of his older brother. Sam’s girlfriend Betsy asks Tim which side he supports and he has a tough time deciding. Tim tries to talk his brother out of going to war, but Sam goes anyways. Since Sam has no communication with his parents, Tim finds an excuse to visit him, and when he does Rebel soldiers force their way into the Meeker house demanding Mr. Meeker’s gun, which Sam has. Luckily Mr. and Mrs. Meeker were not hurt. …show more content…
On the way home Tim’s father is kidnapped by the same terrorists. Luckily for Tim, he outsmarts the cow boys and saves himself. He brought the wagon of goods they were retrieving home, alone. Because of this experience Tim felt as though he had to grow up overnight and become an adult. In 1777, British soldiers enter Redding , Connecticut, the Meeker’s town, and started to kill any men and boys. This makes it even more difficult for Tim to decide where his loyalty lies because the Rebels kidnapped his father but the British are massacring his town. When the British soldiers came through, the Rebels followed, so Tim was able to see Sam once again. However, it wasn’t as happy a reunion as expected because Sam told Tim he was
