Time Check

July 21, 2014. It was another Monday and it was a school day. I woke up early and drove to Ateneo de Manila University where I took up chemistry with materials science engineering. It was my first year in college and the semester just started a month ago, so I was only beginning to get to know the people in my course.
On that Monday, my first class was chemistry and good thing that it was only a 50-minute class. I cannot take in all the formulas that Dr. Valera just discussed. My stress level was already too high. It was 8:20 am. My blockmates, Mariel, Diego, and Magin wanted to eat first before their next classes start. They have class at 9:30 while my next one was at 10:30, so we all headed to JSEC which was a cafeteria. After choosing a table, I volunteered to reserve the table and keep guard of their bags while the three of them went to food stalls to order. I checked my phone and it was 8:30 already but still I see no sign of him.
Magin was the first one who got back and sat down with his bacon and eggs with fried rice. I expected that he would have mentioned his name, but he didn’t. Instead, he talked about how difficult it was to remember all of the dates in our upcoming history exam next week. I agreed and started asking him what the coverage of the exam was, so that he wouldn’t notice that I wasn’t paying much attention to what he was saying.
The truth was I just wanted to go home and cry myself to sleep.
Mariel and Diego sat down at the same time with their pork barbecue sticks and rice. They offered me some food but I said that I was already full since I had a heavy breakfast. The place was getting more crowded with people, and that made me feel even worse. My eyes got tired of searching for that one face as countless of unfamiliar ones crowded the area. It was 9:20 already so that was the reason why the place was getting crowded. As the three of them were preparing to leave for their 9:30 class, Mariel suddenly asked me where Jan was. I nonchalantly answered “I don’t know”.
There was a reason why Mariel suddenly remembered Jan. He was always right beside me. My blockmates would always see him accompanying me while carrying my laptop. He would accompany me to my car. He would text me every time just to check if I got home safely. I was thrilled to have someone do all those things for me in college, but for the past few days that person just disappeared. It was like he was hiding from me. He didn’t text me last Friday and during the whole weekend. I know I was overreacting, because there was nothing going on between us. I have certainly no right to be upset with his behavior, so when Mariel asked me where he was I had to act normal.
He should be here, because he has a 9:30 history class with Magin and Diego.
As I went to the library to wait until my 10:30 class starts, I was hoping that I would see him passing by or suddenly appearing in front of me to greet me. I started to think about our last encounter and that was last Friday. He, Mariel, and I had lunch after our Filipino class which was from 11:30-12:30. I began to think about our conversation, but nothing went wrong. He was still himself that day. He mentioned that he was going to go home and get some clothes, because he and his friends were going to have a sleepover. Mariel told me that she had to get something from her dorm, so I volunteered to accompany her. That was our last conversation. When the bell rang, I realized that I had to go to my 10:30 class.
At 11:30, I was starting to feel nervous, because the whole block (including Jan) had Filipino Class together. When I walked in the classroom, I pretended not to look at the back of the room but I caught a glimpse of the back row and there was one empty seat. The bell hadn’t rung and it was normal for him to be late. Actually, he always cut class whenever there wasn’t any quiz or homework to be passed, so I really shouldn’t have taken his absence since this morning very seriously.
Five minutes later, he arrived. My seat was in the front row that was why I couldn’t see his face. I had to wait until the bell rang before we could have our normal conversation. Unfortunately when my phone hit 12:20, he dashed right out of the room before anyone could even talk to him.
Nothing was wrong with him. He didn’t break his leg or anything. Maybe he had an emergency at home? Then why didn’t he even mention a thing? After every class we have together, he would always be outside the classroom waiting for me. Ever since the third day of school, he would always insist that we eat lunch together, but now he didn’t even bother to say hi.
Mariel, Diego, and I went to the covered courts, because we have PE classes right after our Filipino Class. Normally, Jan would walk with us on our way there and eat with us too. That was why the four of us got close over the past month, but today, it was only the three of us. While we were eating our lunch, Diego asked me where Jan was. I replied innocently saying he shouldn’t be asking me that question. We weren’t together so I didn’t have to know where Jan was when he wasn’t with me. I looked at my phone and it was 12:40 only. Our PE classes don’t start until 1:00. Maybe he was going to show up any minute, have lunch with us, and tell us the whole story of what he has been up to recently that’s why he wasn’t able to text me. Instead, the bell rang and it was 1:00 and it was time for me to wear my dancing shoes for PE.
The teacher walked in the room and told us to warm up. She was very strict and treats us like we were professional dancers. She always expected us to be flexible and do sit-ups. Unfortunately, I can’t do sit-ups. Just when I thought that this day couldn’t get any worse, the teacher approached me and singled me out, because she said I was too lazy to do them correctly. I cannot handle public humiliation while doing sit-ups alone at the same time. Everyone else in the room was told to stop doing them while I continued to force my body to just get them right.
For the past month, I was lucky enough not to get caught not doing sit-ups the right way. Today had to be the day that I got caught.
The class ended at 2:00 and my next class starts at 2:30. It was my second to the last class for the day and I haven’t even spoken to him yet. I couldn’t focus on English class, because of what happened at PE. It has been a long time since a teacher got mad at me. I wasn’t used to it. The class ended at 3:30 and it was time for our literature master class. Geebee, my blockmate, asked me why I looked like a massive truck hit me. When I told him what happened for the past eight hours, he simply told me to calm down. It felt good letting it all out except for the part where I was crying the whole time in front of many people. My friend told me that maybe Jan would explain himself eventually. I should just wait and give him some time.
He didn’t. That was it. I felt like my college life changed the day he left me.
I thought about all the possible reasons why he wasn’t talking to me anymore. Maybe he didn’t like me anymore because I got fatter and uglier. I noticed that I gained a few pounds and got more pimples. Maybe he didn’t like girls who aren’t sporty enough to do sit-ups. Maybe he didn’t like my personality so he just flew off. Maybe he also accompanied and texted other girls. I couldn’t wrap it around my head and I hated myself for it for five months.
December 12, 2014. As I drank that third glass of cocktail at 10:00 pm, a hand grabbed my drink and I heard a familiar voice telling me “ Enough.” I looked at his face and I remember all the pain that he caused me. I pulled my drink away from him and drank it. He said that it was getting late and I still had to drive. I wanted to refuse, but I didn’t. While accompanying me to my car, he gave me a bracelet. Ever since that day, I didn’t know what I was getting into.
Do people just leave and come back in one’s life? That is the question that hunts me until this day. I never got around with his explanation that he thought that I didn’t want him to be my friend that’s why he left me. He thought that there was no chance that I would like him back.
It has been three months since he came back. We were always together like we were before he disappeared. He gave me a giant teddy bear for Valentine’s Day, but he never confessed anything to me. Was that his way of telling me how he felt? Are we best friends or are we more than that?
Maybe he didn’t want to rush into things. I want to know but I’m too scared to find out.
I feel like what happened eight months ago is happening again now. I should have approached him and said something when I needed an explanation like I do now. Instead, I sought advice from my friends and family and it drove them crazy before. They said that I should just talk to him, because that would have made everything much easier. The problem was I had trouble expressing my feelings, so I avoid confrontation. I’m hoping that he would tell me how he feels about me someday. I want him to be the first of us to define what our relationship is. I would just agree to anything he would say, so that he won’t see the pain in my eyes if he decides to leave me again.

Dental Hygiene

...levels started early on and I witnessed it from the beginning. I was assigned to be in the front office. All the second years were there early in the morning with their patients in the waiting area. I helped greet all the patients. The clinicians were reviewing all the documents, took vitals and explained to their patients what was going to happen during the exam. Some of the clinicians were stressed out because their patients did not show up. I called them several times and some patients did not answer. At that moment I knew exactly how important it is to have a back up patient. I did not get to see what was happening during the examination time since most of the time I was in front office. I tried to go back to help out. However, I did hear that some clinicians did not have the correct set up because they thought everything was in the cassette when they sterilized it. There is no room for “thought” at an exam. It’s crucial to follow directions given by the instructors. Check, double check, triple check everything. Some forms were not filled out correctly according to the criteria so the patients got rejected. There were specifics about probing the exact quadrant that you are going to scale, not the entire mouth. They had to complete dental charting as well in that quadrant. At the end, all of the data would be calibrated. It was interesting to see all the patients having assigned numbers instead of their names. I enjoyed being a part of the Mock Board. At...

...businesses are going bankrupt from not changing with the times and poor customer service skills to name a few. Many are converting people to online shopping, so they don't have to deal with the rudeness and attitudes from retailers. They also can save money on gas and shop in the privacy of there own home. There are a few good retailers left Nordstrom, Best Buy, ULTA, Saks Fifth Avenue and Dicks to name a few that go out of their way, to give their customers a perfect shopping experience, which in turn keeps the consumer loyal always. With this in mind, one day I decided to purchase the Note II, since it has the features I was interested in. There was a screen lager than the average phone so I could stream movies and watch personal videos of family and friends. I able take notes in class or write a quick shopping list when needed with the cool stylus. Then I called Best Buy customer service to see if they can check the Winchester Best Buy to if they had the 32 gigabyte note II in stock .The customer service lady was very attentive to my needs and was a active listener, automatically restating everything correctly, that I said. Then she put me on hold for about 2 minutes or so to check Winchester Best Buy inventory in her computer. She responded it “looks like they have it”, but let me call the store to make sure, since it could be a computer error”. I was pleased with how she took the extra initiative to double check. Then she came back to the phone and responded, “they...

...1. Describe the production and judgment phases that you discern in Carlson’s invention. 2. What obstacles and hindrances did Carlson encounter as he creatively and critically worked on his new idea? 3. Citing a recent problem you have solved (or issue you tackled), briefly describe these two phases of thinking in your problem-solving. The production phase of Carlson’s invention would be the determination he had for finding a simpler way of making copies. He knew there had to be an easier way to make copies other than the length of time it took to retype and double check for typos or mistakes. Carlson did encounter different obstacles during the production of the Xerox machine. One obstacle was finding the chemicals to do it the best and simplest way. Two was funding and time. He was funding the invention his self and on his spare time. Third was finding a company that believed in his invention and help make this idea, a reality. To be perfectly honest, the latest issue that I tackled was figuring out how to save money on daycare. We were paying $175 every two weeks for my son to go to before and after care at his daycare. The before care is necessary because I have to be at work at 7 am, his dad has to be at work at 5 am, and his school doesn’t start until 8 am, but I would have to wait on him to get there in the evenings. I would get there about 3:30 and he wouldn’t get there until 4. I changed him to mornings only, wish is only $70 every two weeks, and he rides the...

Steps for Writing Synthesis Essays

...STEP 01: First you want to select a topic; the issue MUST be related to your field. Consider some ideas/issues that relate to your major. Consider what controversial (has more than one side / answer / opinion / etc) issues exist in your discipline / major and which are most interesting to you and/or relevant in your field today. To help you with that, you may want to move through the brainstorm / freewrite below to see if you can develop some of those ideas. You should use this to help you come up with ideas that you could discuss and develop on the DB. You may even want to post portions of what you came up with here on the DB. Thoughtful interaction could earn you some BONUS in the CE column and allow you to SPIN some ideas and nail down some solid topics. With that in mind, each student’s essay is to be unique with regards to its TOPIC / ISSUE / STANCE / ETC; therefore, the Board is meant to be a place to help shape ideas, not see one and “steal” it for your own essay. Topics will be reserved for those individuals who first bring them up and if similarities exist it will be the responsibility of the students to determine what different aspects of the issue will be explored by each (first poster gets first choice). I will NOT allow the “casual” student (one who is hanging around on the roster but not really submitting assignments and/or participating on the previous Boards) tell me at the last minute that “X” is his/her project when a conscientious student already articulated...

...of the event so we could start promptly. The student arrived on time as I did. We went straight to the operating theatre where we were going to be working for the day. On arriving in that theatre I discovered it had been used prior and was left in an untidy state so I had to tidy it up before we could proceed. Had I have thought before hand I could have checked the day before to ensure this was not the case. I started by showing the student the anaesthetic machine we were going to use, explained the different parts and how they function. The student looked a bit perplexed at the terminology I used so I tried more simple terminology and explanations and that seemed to help. After the brief explanation of how the anaesthetic machine worked I described The checks we were going to carry out. I showed the student the 2012 guide to checking the machine produced by the College of Anaesthetists which is the one we currently use. We started to check the machine going through the guide step by step as described. It took quiet a while to complete the check. Afterwards I asked the student if they followed what we had done, the student commented it was a bit too much to go through in one session. I think looking back that I should have broken down the process into perhaps two or more sessions allowing the student time to take in and question the information. For future teaching I will definitely allocate more time in more separate sessions as not to bombard the student with what...

Looking through the control procedure manual, the treasurer signs the checks. She also inspects any voided and spoiled checks. This may become an issue because she is the person signing the checks as well as reviewing the voided making it easier to commit fraud. Mr. Lancaster recorded the loan as “Other receivables” rather than Employee “Employee advances”. Mr. Lancaster wants the check written to him instead of his secretary. Mrs. B smiled. * Preparation(b) We disinfected our hands and dried (it was provided on the wall dispenser) and put the gloves on. Writing a Book Report

...Writing a Book Report Summary: This resource discusses book reports and how to write them. Contributors: Purdue OWL (owl.English.purdue.edu) Book reports are informative reports that discuss a book from an objective stance. They are similar to book reviews but focus more on a summary of the work than an evaluation of it. Book reports commonly describe what happens in a work; their focus is primarily on giving an account of the major plot, characters, thesis, and/or main idea of the work. Most often, book reports range from 250 to 500 words. Before You Read Before you begin to read, consider what types of things you will need to write your book report. First, you will need to get some basic information from the book: • Author • Title • Publisher location, name of publisher, year published • Number of Pages You can either begin your report with some sort of citation, or you can incorporate some of these items into the report itself. Next, try to answer the following questions to get you started thinking about the book: • Author: Who is the author? Have you read any other works by this author? • Genre: What type of book is this: fiction, nonfiction, biography, etc.? What types of people would like to read this kind of book? Do you typically read these kinds of books? Do you like them? • Title: What does the title do for you? Does it spark your interest? Does it fit well with the text of the book? • Pictures/Book Jacket/Cover/Printing:...

One day I had a really bad migraine and ear ache and decided to call in sick. The next day when I went back to work I had forgotten to get a doctor’s note to take to work and my supervisor had advice me to get one the following day or my job could be in jeopardy. The week went by and I had forgotten about the note, when my probation evaluation was up that incident came up and the department supervisor decided I had to be terminated. About three days earlier my husband was also terminated from his job due to our childcare issues. Now that it happened and time has passed to reflect on what went wrong I believe a way to solve this problem in a persuasive thinking manner would have been for myself to go to work that day and speak with my supervisor and explain to him that I knew the rules of calling in sick during the probation period. I would of also gone straight to the doctor’s right after to get the a note in regards to my sickness. If my husband would have sought an outside source for our son’s childcare, for example family members or friends then the outcome of that day would have been different. If we would have placed this type of thinking into our week then we would have had a better conclusion....
