The fluid help to prevent dehydration. Fluid is important in the treatment of sickle cell anemia to be able to prevent further vaso-occlusive crises and to provide relief of pain. Oxygen helps only if the patient is hypoxia.

Brittany long was given 2mg of morphine IV for her pain. Also IV PCA may be given if the pain cannot be controlled. The patient must be given fluids to prevent dehydration.
