This emerging worldview sits in contradistinction to the view of the world as predictable, linear, measurable and controllable, indeed mechanical; it is the so-called mechanical worldview which underpins many traditional approaches to strategy development and general management theory (see Mintzberg, 2002 for an overview). The complexity worldview presents a new, integrated picture of the behaviour of organisations, marketplaces, economies and political infrastructures; these are indeed complex systems as we will explain below. Some of these behaviours are recognised in other theories and other empirical work. Complexity theory is unique in deriving these concepts through the lens of a coherent, self-consistent scientific perspective whilst nevertheless applying it to everyday, practical problems. Fresh meatballs are made from meats that have not been previously cured,they are made from ground meat,either pork,beef or veal. Meatballs are however susceptible to microbial spoilage and auto-oxidation. The artificial chemical preservatives used in meatball preservation.eg sodium metabisulphite may be replaced by natural extracts such as Tamarind and Ziziphus extracts which have both antimicrobial and anti-oxidant properties. The extracts will be obtained from Tamarind andZiziphusseeds.The seeds will be dried and ground into powder followed by liquid/liquid extraction. The extraction was carried out by 400ml ethyl acetate and water for 100grams from each sample. The fresh meatballs will be processed in the JKUAT meat workshop using the correct recipe. Fresh meatballs batch with no preservative will act as the control. Another batch with sodium metabisulphite and finally with the seed extracts. The processed fresh meatballs will be stored at 40c and at 250c and the samples analyzed within a staggered period of 4 weeks for auto-oxidation,microbial...

...THE CONCEPT OF PEST A pest can be defined as any organism which injures man, his property, or his environment, or which just causes him annoyance. Such organisms include principally certain insects, nematodes, fungi, weeds, birds and rodents, or any other terrestrial or aquatic plant or animal life, or virus, bacteria, etc. In agriculture, concern is normally expressed when the damage done to a crop by a specific crop pest or a group of pests causes a loss in yield or quality because this would mean a reduction in profit. When a loss in yield reaches certain proportions, the pest can be designated an economic pest. According to Edward and Heath (1964), the pest status is reached when there is a 5 percent loss in yield in a particular crop. In pest management, the economic appraisal of the pest status and justification of the need to embark on control measures is defined in relation to the following concepts: economic damage, economic injury level and economic threshold. Economic damage can be defined as the amount of injury done to a crop that will justify the cost of artificial control measures. Economic injury level is the lowest pest population density that can cause economic damage, which will vary from crop to crop, season to season, and area to area. For practical purposes, there is an economic threshold defined by Stern et al.
