TITIAN SELF PORTRAIT

Name:

Institution:

Titian (Portrait of Himself)

Titian is a high renaissance Italian painter that is famed for his paintings that dominated the 1560’s. As a painter, Titian gained fame for a self-portrait that he did on an oil canvas in his sunset years. This painting differs markedly from an earlier self portrait that he did in earlier years. In this particular portrait, the painter depicts himself as an old tired man. The portrait does not show the self-confident side of the painter that predominate his earlier works (Loh, 2007). This particular painting depicts Titian as an old bored fellow, staring into some distant place, looking lost in his thoughts.

Aside from gaining fame on the two self portraits, Titian also made other notable paintings that include the paintings of sacred and profane love, assumption of the virgin, Pasero Madonna, Bacchus and Ariadne, Pierto Aretino, the Venus of Urbino among other paintings. Titian was famed among his contemporaries as a master genius in painting. He was thus given the undisputed title of the Venetian Master of Color. This name resulted from his mastery paintings that fully utilized color. His use of brushwork earned him fame in Venice as he executed classical artworks of both portraits and landscapes (Classen, 2007).

The works by Titian are considered masterpieces and have been reviewed variously by different authorities notable among them being Harrt. He sees this painting as discriminatory to the female beauty and at the same time a piece that praises the very beauty it discriminates. The appreciation of Titan to this painting makes him both the owner of the 0painting and the women depicted therein. This painting corresponds to the works of art of the classical period where each piece of artwork covered a specific subject position (Classen, 2007). The interpretations for Titian’s works are both contingent and partial. Titan uses resources pictorial representations that enable him to fashion images that are both exquisite and original. To clearly understand the works of Titian, one must carefully study how the artist used color in his paintings. The use of color in the painting ensures that the forms are well placed in the paintings.

Another masterpiece produced by Titian, the Rape of Europa was not so glorious. This piece was painted off showing a white bull, a disguise of Jupiter, carrying and overpowering the distraught Europa. This piece combines the elements of unconscious grace, abandon and surprise. The piece also shows cupid floating on a dolphin. Other authorities have also written on Titian’s wok. For instance, Titian’s Venus of Urbino presents an archetypal illustration of the female nude in the Renaissance culture. This painting represents construction of gender in the renaissance. Titan’s Venus of Urbino can be paralleled with Michelangelo’s portrait of David. Nudity was an overrunning theme in the renaissance period. However, the works of Michelangelo and Titian revealed that the male and female nudity is not treated in equal terms; these works show the social construction of the various gender roles of that period (Eaton, 2003).

The pictures painted by Titian bear the description of women made by men. The female in the picture is shown naked. The obfuscations portrayed in this painting are extraordinary with aesthetic evaluation of color, form composition and handling which clearly defines the portraits of this caliber. The paintings made by Titian also repress the feelings that are often invoked by such paintings. The painter’s intention is quiet vague; we cannot conclusively say that the pictures such as the portrait of the Venus of Urbino (Phillips, 2008).

The works of Titian illustrated some unique perspective and sensitivity. This works gained him fame among the contemporaries of his time. He is regarded as the finest painter for his mastery in the use of different layers and shades of paint to create paintings that had lasting effects. His works depicts a dynamic and energetic painting that captivates the attention of its viewers. Secondly, Titian’s work also uses. Chiaroscuro is a method that applies the value of a 2 dimensional piece of art to fashion a 3D solid form. The Titian’s Gypsy Madonna portrays the use of Chiaroscuro. The rich color harmonies depicted by this painting shows a magnificent use of chiaroscuro. His use of golden puffy sleeves creates `a 3D effect. The artist uses strong contrast of colors that allow the utilization of light and dark. Ordinarily, chiaroscuro allows the artist to use shades, tones, highlights and shades to form a 3D illusion on a 2D material. The media used by Titian is canvas and habitually this media is two dimensional (Phillips, 2008). The painter used the chiaroscuro to form paintings that appear three dimensional. The works by Titian also show some sense of symbolism. The religious symbolism represented by his paintings raises the bar on the standards for altarpieces used in the religious circles.

Psychomachia depicts the struggle that subsists between faith, and cardinal virtues against idolatry and corresponding vices. Titian uses psychomachia in the depictions of images, elements and subjects in his painting. The faith struggle happens between the Christian and Catholic faiths in Venice. Titian gave his Christian paintings heroism of some sort and unparalleled sensuality. Titian’s great success emanates from his ability to capture his representations vividly without distorting either the psychological or the physical form of the personage and emphasizes both aspects in equal intensity. The painter’s capability as an historian of his time helps him pass across the message he has.

Titian’s paintings also attempts to correlate and distinguish the symbolism and depiction explained by Aristotle’s theories of dramatic art, platonic love and psychomachia. Aristotle theorized that art had a unique ability of mimicking nature. Aristotle argues that art originates from man’s desire to imitate. The use of color and themes in paintings voices out the imitation of nature as embodied by the artist concerned. Aristotle’s theory on art helps in classification and evaluation of various artworks.

The use paintings depicting Titian’s women shows a connection in Renaissance art theory which distinguishes between colore and disegno (color and design). The mix between these two elements creates a dichotomy of matter and form. The confrontation of color and design engenders a discourse that portrays the universe. According to Aristotle’s earlier assertions, everything in the universe comprises matter and form. In this regard matter is feminine and it is inferior to the soul which represents the masculine form (Aristotle et al, 1997).

The works of Titian use elements that have been tempered by Aristotelian naturalism and are less mystical in nature. These works also fit perfectly into Gloria duplex and soul making in the sense that it embodies different aspects which fits nicely in his artwork. This is a beautiful embodiment of an artwork that is unique and explains the accolades showered on the master painter of Venice (Aristotle et al, 1997).

The first god, if you can call it that, was Chaos – a gloomy, soupy mist with all the matter in the cosmos just drifting around. Here’s a fact for you: Chaos literally means the Gap, and we’re not talking about the clothing store. Eventually Chaos got less chaotic. Maybe it got bored with being all gloomy and misty. Some of its matter collected and solidified into the earth, which unfortunately developed a living personality. She called herself Gaia, the Earth Mother. Cassini-Huygens Controversy

...Saturn has fascinated astronomers ever since Galileo discovered a funny shaped planet that he described as having “ears”. The ears he saw were the breathtakingly beautiful rings made of ice particles from dust sized to boulder to a few mountain sized (Saturn: Rings). When the voyager probe flew past it also something that intrigued astronomers, the moon Titan appeared hazy. More had to be found out about Saturn, its moons, and Titan, the moon with an atmosphere. Cassini was named for the astronomer Jean-Dominique Cassini who discovered four of Saturn’s moons (FAQs Cassini-Huygens). The Cassini-Huygens probe was a huge international cooperation between three space programs: NASA, the ESA, ASI the Italian space program (International Collaboration)....

...Nevertheless, there are multiple processes which occur as a Tardigrade prepares itself for this state. It will begin to produce trehalose, described in depth as a, “special protective sugar that forms a gel-like medium that suspends and perseveres the organelles and membranes that make up the animal’s cells.” (Bradford) To simplify, trehalose wraps around the remaining water molecules in the body, to prevent evaporation in a sporadic temperature increase, and further preserve the Tardigrade. Some theorize this technique of survival was only acquired by some Tardigrades. But due to their unbelievably small size, the sugar may also just be undetectable. Tardigrades continue to find ways to push their survival, defying all odds. Considering the fact that their whole life revolves around the immediate state of their surroundings, oxygen content can also have a huge affect on their physical state. If the oxygen content in the water medium surrounding them drops to a lower level than they can handle, they cannot extract sufficient amounts of gas for respiration. With that being said, they will do as they can with the preservation of water molecules, and stretch the use of this gas out into a long relaxed and metabolic state. This reduction and relaxation allows for as much water and oxygen to enter their cells as possible, considering the conditions. When they shed most of the water in their bodies, this dryness could be fatal. Yet still, they combat it. They counterproduce antioxidants...

One of the possibilities of life may not even be on a planet but on a moon. Saturn which has many moons has one moon that is larger than all the rest Titan; it is the only natural satellite knows to have a dense atmosphere. And the only other object in our solar system besides earth which has clear evidence of stable bodies of water( liquid) to be found. Now what does that mean it means that if we started from our oceans and evolved from there in the near future there might be signs of life. Now I know what you are saying wait how could we live there if life is just begging well we would not, it would most likely be our last resort and we would need a lot of research. And if we did see it as a possible next planet the creature there would most likely look like a lantern fish or some sort of mix of viper fish and angler fish. If life would exist there it would need to breathe methane (stinky farts). The climate there including wind and rain makes surface feature on titan similar to that of earths, these include rivers, lakes, and seas. ...Herschel managed to avoid a large amount of the glare from the rings and get a much clearer view of Enceladus by observing it during Saturn’s equinox (Redd, 2013. Remember the Titans

...Remember The Titans Within this organization there are two main leader who take very different approaches in there method of management. Coach Boone is the head football coach, he is very strict when it comes to his players as well as his team staff, he takes a classical approach at management. Division of labor and priorities are some main concepts used in the classical approach, Boone believe’s everyone should know where they stand and who is the boss, he is focused on building a strong winning team. Coach Boone is straight forward and to the point, in the first team meeting he informs the team that, “Best player will play, color don’t matter,” and he lets the players know, “This is not a democracy, this is a dictatorship. I am the law.” This shows Boone believe in division of labor, by matching the players skills to their position, and that he leads with bureaucracy, letting it be known clearly who is in charge. Coach Yoast is the former head coach made assistant defensive coach, who choses to lead with a behavioral approach to management. Yoast tells Boone he wants his players to hold their positions even after Boone takes over, he also tells Boone he too strict at camp and that the players should be having some fun. This shows Yoast believe’s that the players will preform better for the team if they are satisfied with the position they have, and if they are having fun while playing and practicing. Remember the Titans

...Jamie Velez Elizabeth Hughes Paul Way EDUC 268 Remember the Titans - Five Step Analysis Plot Summary In April of 1971, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling that ended all stateimposed segregation in public schools. This was the same year that T. C. Williams High School located in Alexander Virginia was integrated. This is the setting for the movie Remember the Titans, staring Denzel Washington who portrays Herman Boone the head coach of the Titans. Herman Boone is brought in as an assistant coach to join the all white coaching staff. When Herman Boone is appointed head coach over a wining white coach he is reluctant to accept because the same things had happened to him when a white coach had been appointed over him in South Carolina. He finally accepts the head coach position when he sees that the black residents see him as a symbol of pride and respect that is lacking in their community. The movie starts with a riot after a white storeowner kills a black teenager. This incident underscores the racial tensions that exist as a result of the desegregation of the high school. Coach Boone has to overcome the racism within the team, the coaching staff, and the community to build a winning racially mixed football team. Leader Description In the movie we have four primary leaders: · Herman Boone, the black head coach · Bill Yoast, the white assistant coach · Gerry Bertier, the white unofficial leader of the White athletes · Julius Campbell, the black unofficial...

Sports can instantly be placed in this category when matters related to segregation, race and ethnicity are interrelated. I have selected the movie “Remember the Titans” to discuss the impacts of the aforesaid as they pertain to sports throughout this paper. In 2000, Remember the Titans was an American sports drama motion picture centered upon legendary African American football coach Herman Boone who was portrayed by mega-star Denzel Washington. (Wikipedia, 2015 ) This movie was not only one of the best-selling and entertaining movies of its year, but offered audiences a comprehensive representation of communal actions and conducts in the lives of people similar to themselves. I will dissect Remember the Titans via credible arguments (realistic conflict theory), various social approaches (cultural theory) and the fundamentals of racial discrimination (racism).(Coakley, 2014) Realistic conflict theory “is a social psychological model of intergroup conflict.”(Baumeister & Vohs, 2007)“it illustrates how intergroup conflict can arise as a result of conflicting goals and competition over limited resources, and it also offers an explanation for the feelings of prejudice and discrimination...

Remember the Titans

...Interpersonal Conflict in Remember the Titans I choose the movie – remember the titans. It is an inspirational movie, making my blood boiling from the beginning to the end and teaching us that we are all equal no matter what race you are. It talks about not only the games, but also racial conflicts, friendship and the significance of life. The story goes like that: in the early 1970s, two schools in Alexandria Virginia integrate forming T.C. Williams High School. The Caucasian head coach of the Titans is replaced by an African American coach from North Carolina. Tensions arise when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased during the two-week training camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When players return to Alexandria the players find the city in turmoil due to the forced desegregation of the high school. Through facing a lot of objections and questions, the players and the coaches still choose to unify, depend on and trust each other. As the season progresses the team's success causes the community to accept the changes. After the Titans' perfect season, the team and the city are closer than ever. There are many interpersonal conflicts in the movie, such as the racial conflict between the black and the white, the conflict between Coach Herman Boone and Coach Bill Yoast, the conflict between Gerry Bertier and his girlfriend Emma and so on. Because of different cultural background, conflicts arise between...
