...English Essay Rewrite Compare and contrast Text A and Text B Text A- Satirical Elegy on the death of a late famous general Text B- An obituary of William Davidson Both texts are similar, in the fact that they both are reminiscence on a person’s life after their death. Many differences, however, can be seen throughout the poem written by Jonathan Swift and the Obituary. The opening of both Texts is contradictory as Text A opens with a series of exclamations, ‘His Grace! Impossible! What, dead!, ’which gives an impression of surprise at the death but not a sense of grief is aroused. On the other hand, Text B embarks with a compliment ‘was in his element at the heart of the action’; both openings give a clear implication of the withdrawal of the rest of the text. The structure of both are also at a contrast, Text A is an elegy so Is a farewell to the dead but the fact that Swift writes a satire elegy therefore removes the traditional aspect of an elegy. Text B is an Obituary, but although also a farewell to the dead, it is read at a remembrance or a funeral so is written with aspiration to honour William Davidson and not undermine him in the way that Text A is. Text A is written with a sarcastic and mocking tone, through the poem it is highlighted that the general has earned the disrespected he has received through the mention also of his failures with use of the parallelism of ‘Nor widows’ sigh, nor orphans’ tears’ which gives the impression that no grief is present...

...The text under stylistic analysis is written by Joyce Carry. It deals with the author’s emotions and feelings towards Clare, Tutin’s wife, who lost her husband. This text is about one businessman Tutin who tell in love with his secretary and wanted a divorce. After having a conversation with his husband, Clare was resigned after all. She thought it would be stupid to try to hold him against his will and he’d only hate her. Then we meet an Old Mrs. Beer who was the widow of a canon. This comparison the author used to show us that the old lady became a widow long ago and probably used to live alone. Then the author describes her appearance and her character . She was a short, stout woman with a red face and a heavy jaw — a pugnacious and indomitable face. And having known this description we can say it was a bossy person who liked to give orders to other people. The author compare her face with the faces in boxing booths, who have been in the ring all their lives and lost all their fight but still follow the game, in order to show that she already «lost her fight», but anyway like giving arbitrary commands . And when she got to know about this arrangement she came without any warning and broke into Tutin’s office, with an umbrella in hand as if about to beat him. This comparison author used to underline she had very serious intentions as to his son-in-low. «This was in the presence of the secretary who was taking a dictation — not Phyllis was no longer a secretary». And...

...Advice for Relationships COM200 August 22, 2010 I would like to say I know it all, but I do not. There is so much to learn when it comes to communication. Allowing barriers like silence could affect you and the other person involved. Placating will not show the true you. So be careful and do not over exaggerate. Not responding to things that are asked of you, making excuses, so quit playing games. Be involved in situations as much as you can, but if you keep turning it down then you are just secluding your-self from it. Self-concept is very important. Build your-self up, do not allow someone else to bring you down. You need self-control. It will help you think before you speak; which will allow you to say the right things, just be careful. Words are powerful, so be very careful when you respond to any situation. You take in consideration who you are speaking to and the way your tone of voice is when you say it. When someone discloses any information to you about their past, then be empathic to the situation. So in the situation of someone disclosing information, being a good listener will be beneficial to you. Using strategies for active, critical, and empathic listening will help you communicate better. Receive facts to use in the conversation, ask questions about the subject you are speaking about, and be open minded. Supporting each other and life experiences will help you manage conflicts. Do not let gender nor culture come between you and the other person. It could...

2. ...Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her realism and biting social commentary has gained her historical importance among scholars and critics.[1] Austen lived her entire life as part of a close-knit family located on the lower fringes of the English landed gentry.[2] She was educated primarily by her father and older brothers as well as through her own reading. The steadfast support of her family was critical to her development as a professional writer.[3] Her artistic apprenticeship lasted from her teenage years into her thirties. During this period, she experimented with various literary forms, including the epistolary novel which she tried then abandoned, and wrote and extensively revised three major novels and began a fourth.[B] From 1811 until 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818, and began a third, which was eventually titled Sanditon, but died before completing it. Austen's works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century realism.[4][C] Her plots, though fundamentally comic,[5] highlight the...

...Jaeger (1986) conducted a reserach on the applicability of human resource practices in developing countries asserted that although there is strong will to replicate western human resource policies, those policies cannot be implemented successfully. It is required that to be successfully practiced, those policies must fit with the assumptions of local cultural context. For example, planning activities does not work well in the countries with low uncertainty avoidance such as in Indonesia and most African countries. Japanese companies have shorther hierarchical structure, flexible job description, control systems upon self-discipline and more promotion from within. Germany, decision making is more centralized than in United Kingdom. Besides, it is common for top positions in organization occupied by outsider. Meanwhile, companies in UK tended to have promotion form within policy, and spend more money for employee well-being and middle management development program. Companies that tend to place greater emphasis on individual rewards and compensation packages and personal career development will value collective rewards and steady progression. In the Western context, individual workers stand out when they exercise personal initiative and are duly rewarded through competitive remuneration and opportunities for growth. Conversely, organizations that emphasize long-term orientation, thrift, communality harmony and respect for tradition will result in workers receiving promotion...

...As arshad already explainied how the RTA impacted job and wasges of the meixco ppl during dat era it shows that globalization does effect the agricultuy and manufacturing workers 1) Subisidies of corn sector In 2000, U.S. government subsidies to the corn sector totaled $10.1 billion. These subsidies have led to charges of dumping, which jeopardizes Mexican farms and the country's food self-sufficiency. 2) Globalization and employment Nafta did deliver as expected: Exports and foreign direct investment tripled from the early 1990s as Mexico became a leading supplier of cars, electronics and a broad variety of industrial parts to the United States. Productivity in Mexican manufacturing rose 80 percent. But annual economic growth averaged only 1.6 percent per capita between 1992 and 2007 — low even by Mexican standards until the 1980s. American jobs did move south, particularly into the export sector. The growth in services — new supermarkets, banks, tourism — also created jobs. But overall, Mexico was unable to create enough jobs to make up for all the jobs lost because of competition from imports, particularly purchases of subsidized grains from the United States. The oversupply of labor, along with government policies that succeeded in keeping wages low, have led to a slight increase in the gap between average wages in the United States and Mexico — precisely the opposite of what Nafta was expected to do. * Unfair competition among import and domestic market ...
