Advancements in the field of science, such as Genetic engineering, has made human life easier. But, the critics in this field has raised many questions regarding ethical, environmental, economical, and social dilemmas. Recently, there has been a sharp increase in the number of animals used for technological research, and many animal extremists around the world are blaming scientists for breaking ethical codes. Rats and mice are being used for formulating new cancer drugs by scientists only for the benefit of human beings. Rats, along with mice and rodents, make up more than ninety percent of the animals used in research. There are number of questions raised by animal extremists, such as for what purpose these animals are being exploited? Should we consider the question of ethics and morality while these animals are mistreated for Humans selfish purpose? How should the attitude and practice toward the animal change? An online journal, The Conversation included in its article “Animals in Research: Rats,” such animals were used because humans and rats both are mammal, they have similar structure and functions regarding their body. That is one of the specific reason for why rats are used in medicinal research. Even though this research...

Critics of violent media seem to long for the “good old days”; a time before there was violence in the media. These critics fail to acknowledge that those “good old days” were actually far more violent than today. Some believe that violence in the media is to blame for violence in people, but that argument is undermined by the realization that violence existed long before video games and television. ...Day 1: Had my first day today and it was very interesting. First I had an orientation where we went over general guidelines for interns at Viacom and then we signed some paperwork. Played some icebreaker games and got a crash course in all the entities that Viacom owns such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, CMT, BET. After I met with JC, one of the research analysts for MTV and I got a tour of where I was working and met fellow employees and met my supervisor Mitchell. I then attended a meeting with the research, programming and creative insight teams where we discussed millennials (people aged 15-30) and their media consumption. We watched clips about certain shows that were going to be aired and whether or not millennials would watch these shows. We also discussed other areas regarding media consumption. Day 2: I arrived early to work to start learning. The more the better in my opinion. I got acclimated at my desk and started learning the basics. I got a crash course in MTV and ratings since I am in intern in the research and strategic insights department. Then I attended a focus group regarding upcoming MTV events and gave input regarding the specific topics. Got acclimated with startrak, the system in which MTV/MTV 2 pulls ratings. Day 3: got acclimated with startrak even more. Learned some of the more difficult tasks associated with it. I learned how to pull the ratings for MTV and checked ratings that my supervisors JC, Cara, and Mitchell create. Basically its just...

...Essay Title: Body Project Course title: Regulating Bodies, Youth, Identity and consumption The body is a topic of much discussion within society at the moment with focus on media and consumer consumption. This has brought to light a range of issues surrounding the body, and literature from decades ago have been looked at and performed in a modern light to produce up to date research on the body. This body project gives me an opportunity to not only understand myself about body sculpting, but allow a better understanding on the literature and provide additional evidence that will either support or reject themes and theories in this chosen topic. My choice to choose the topic of dieting for this body project was an easy one to make. From the age of about fifteen I have been conscious of my weight despite being told ‘you aren’t fat,’ and ‘you don’t need to diet.’ These comments were not enough to deter me not to take up different dieting techniques and phases of exercising however more times than not I would fail at reaching my targets. I therefore saw this opportunity as a way to try again as the pressure of keeping a diary and writing up on it may encourage me to maintain it for longer than my previous attempts. I find the topic of dieting very interesting not just in terms of myself but also in terms of society as a whole. After researching this topic of interest and not realising it myself but dieting has a significant association with the increased risk of not only...

...DAMM Good! Lemonade Stand (DGLS) Accounting Summary Report – Season One Bus 599 - Introduction to Quantitative Principles 12 September 2010 Background The enclosed DAMM Good! Lemonade stand (DGLs) accounting summary is a quantitative snapshot of financial transactions that have occurred during the first season of operation of DGLs. This accounting summary report has two aspects: to generate common accepted financial statements that reflect the health of the business and to provide concise but insightful interpretations and necessary recommendations deduced from the data (Larson, 2008). Financial Position Summary Appendix I: Daily Seasonal Data * The seasonal data was used as an “ad hoc” journal or daily receipts record to build each of the financial worksheets. Appendix II: Financial Journal The DGLs Financial Journal is the formal recording of five aspects of a transaction that is found in the Daily Seasonal Data: (1) its date, (2) brief description of the transaction, (3) ledger account to be debited and amount, (4) ledger account to be credited and amount, and its (5) cross-reference title for other financial reports. It also includes additional data entries such as the weather condition on that day and number of hours the stand was open to help “flush out” the other factors affecting the DGLs. This approach provides an audit trail and a means of analyzing the effects of daily transactions on DGLs’s financial position. * The DGLs first season...

As of today, products go from one part of the world to the other and back just to make one shirt or phone and in fact this is cheaper for major companies to outsource for example, Apple builds phones in china, apple is based in the USA and when china done making the phone they send it back to the USA to be sold. Trade is cheaper and faster today than it has ever been before. Today's ocean trading routes are larger and faster than ever. These routes can get massive quantities of bulk goods like timber and cotton from one side of the world in a matter...

...believe Paul’s teachings encourages us to seek the truth of scripture as it influences the way we live and view the world today. Biblical Worldview Essay The Natural World One views the natural world in a way that is very negative. Paul’s depiction in Romans 1; 18-32 leads one to believe that this is unchanged since creation. The world remains a very dark place, filled with sin, sexual immorality, perversion, and selfishness. Believers and unbelievers alike do not dispute this depiction. Even with all of our growing technology, we are no better off than those that lived in Paul’s day. In Romans 1; 20, man is told that even creation speaks to God’s qualities and divine nature. This verse warns that there will be no accepted excuse for denying God as their creator. People live in the flesh and worship everything except God. In Paul’s time, he struggled with seeing the same abominations (Romans 1; 18-2; 3). People in Paul’s day, just like today, were divided by their beliefs on false gods or in some cases, no gods at all. Paul warns about God’s anger towards sin in Romans1; 18-20 (NLT). Human Identity Since the fall of man in the garden, our true nature is to be sinful. We are held captive to sin by our lack of relationship and submission to God. Some people even completely deny their need for God. Romans 3; 10 clearly states that ‘No one is good- not even one”. Even with that scripture being said, man foolishly allows themselves...

There were no real issues; she followed the schedule that was planned out by the teacher with very little interruptions or disturbances. ...Today is the day I have been waiting on. It has been a while since I had a day to myself. Today is that day, a day of peace. My alarm was set for 8; 00 am. The exact time the kid’s bus arrives for pick up and my wife leaves for work as I lay in the bed tossing and turning, I could hear the family scrambling throughout the house. You can hear my wife yelling at the kids to be ready for the bus. Then my alarm rings, ding. Ding…ding….is reached over to shut my alarm off and was greeted by the family at my bed. Good mourning dad we love you was all I heard as the kids darted out the door off to school. It is time to get my day started. As I walk through the bed room door my wife greets me with a kiss as she heads out the door. She turns and says “breakfast is in the microwave sweetie. I replied; ok have a good day as she leaves. I can smell the aroma of the food in the air as I entered the kitchen. As good as the food smelled I need a cup of coffee to start my day. As my coffee brewed I got my self-ready for the day. Since today is a day set for my hobbies, I decided to start it off with coffee and video gaming. I spent about four hours playing play station 3. Now that my gaming was over, it was time for the park. Armed with my camera I headed out to the park for a day with nature. As I was driving to the park I passed a dairy queen, so I decided to add a treat to my day. The park was beautiful, the sun was shining bright and the birds were chirping. I walked through the park capturing...

...Confucius’s beliefs have definitely left a mark on the modern world today and influenced several traditions as well. Confucianism has strongly changed from the days Confucius taught it himself, till today in the modern world. Confucius’s beliefs and teachings focused on the ideal person. Confucianism has clearly been westernized in today’s day of age. Many of the beliefs and virtues are not followed as an importance anymore as it used to be. Confucius key beliefs focused on the virtues and relationships between mankind. The virtues include benevolence, propriety, loyalty, intellect, and trust. Benevolence is being able to do good to others with acts of kindness and charitableness. Benevolence is practiced today with donating and helping with charities all over the world to the smallest gesture of helping a friend. Propriety is the act of having good manners. Good manners are important for the ideal person according to Confucius. It is not that common when going out people are out of control, although in today’s society it is slowly becoming “socially acceptable”. Loyalty is another important virtue in the ideal person. One should be loyal to everyone. Sadly today, although there are loyal people, not many people are which can cause several setbacks in relationships, or work environments. The fourth important virtue is intellect. To be intellect one studies and learns with an open mind. Today people make the mistake of acting intellect without actually being intellect. For example...

...Title: What Happened to our Moral Values? Author: Judelle Sterling Source: Helium.com, the Values and Morals in American Society: 1950s versus today Article by: Jennifer Buckett Created: September 23, 2007 I remember growing up as a kid. My mother would teach us on a daily basis how to always keep and practice good moral values. Not only did she teach it to us, she did it with examples. We watch mother saying “hello” and “good morning” with a smile to everyone; young, old, friends and strangers alike. We grew up learning how to respect everyone, how to conduct ourselves in a proper and respectful way to show respect and earn respect. That was the good old days when things were simple and happiness was all we had time for. Where love for the fellow man was so thick that you could feel it just by looking at each other as we walk by, yes that was the past. Now in the present time all I see is people being rude to each other. Moral values mean nothing these days. People are too busy to greet one another. All you see on the news is how a group of teenager beating up a 70 year old man in the name of fun or gang initiation. Things are getting out of hand, and it will get worse if we stand by and do nothing. Compared to the old days society today has plunged to a new low in moral values. Let’s go back as far the 1950s where our moral values were at its best. I wasn’t around in the 1950s but I’ve watch television shows...

...Ancient Engineering Ashley Shehan World Civilizations 1: History103 Samson Tsahiridis October 15, 2012 Ancient Engineering Ancient civilizations are credited for many inventions and engineer advancements that have been perfected and still used today. These advances have laid a foundation for today’s way of life; convenient, efficient, and technology improving faster than ever. Introduction of roads, domestication of animals, and the use of ships are all examples of engineering used to increase power, efficiency, and the quality of life. With the use of roads, ships, and calendars, civilizations were able to improve their economy, increase their power, increase population, and expand their power. Roads Romans The Roman Empire’s success was greatly due to the extensive paved road system built, connecting virtually the entire empire. The Appian Way was built in 312BCE, one of the earliest Roman road built. The network or road would eventually consist of over 55,000 miles of road, with a width of 20-40 feet, depending on the amount of traffic and use of the road. Built mostly by soldiers, the use of these roads greatly empowered the Roman Army. Unaffected by weather, quicker deployments, and faster distribution of communication, supplies, and food were possible, increasing efficiency. Post houses to tend or change horses were located every ten to fifteen miles along the routes, while Inns to accommodate travelers, and were located every twenty to thirty...

...Abe Coleman English 101-02 July 8, 2012 My Life-Changing Story Today was the worst day of my life. My mom gave me good and bad news. The bad news was so horrible. The good news was very surprising. The bad news was so bad, that I started crying. My mom told me that I was moving. It all started when today, was the day I would be the student of the month. I was so happy that I was finally my turn to be student of the month. I went to school and I got to wear the class crown. The class crown is a crown that the student of the month wears on the first on the first day. The student of the month get to choose what fun activities we get to do for the entire month after we finish our assignments. It was an honor for me to wear the class crown. That day I was so happy that I got to finally be the student of the month. When I came home from school and my mom told me good news. She told me that she was expecting a baby. But, after that my mom told me that we were going to move to Miami, Florida. Since my mom was pregnant we had to move because there was not enough room in our apartment. My whole family lives in Richmond, Virginia. So, my parents thought that it would be a good idea to buy a house in Miami. I was so sad that I was going to move next week. I was so mad that I started to cry. I did not want to leave all my friends, my teachers, my city and leave. My mom told me that I was going to find more friends and even better ones too. ...video, “Romans: the letter that changed the world” that, Paul saw this fault line in the society of Rome and uses this as the base for his writing the book of Romans. My world view is that, the sins committed by the Romans back in Paul’s day are still being committed today (Ecclesiastes 1:9) in today’s society. I think we can take a major lesson from Paul in that, Rome was a completely debased and that today, we live in a society of complete moral decay and decadence not unlike Rome. I believe that society as a whole WILL NOT change for the better and that each individual needs divine revelation and intervention and salvation to escape such a world. This is my world view. Faith in Christ is the only way to escape. The Natural World My view of the natural world is of constant sin, sexual depravity, murder and more are being committed even to this day as they were back in (Genesis 6:5). (Romans chapter 1:18-32) Rome back in Paul’s day, was full of every sin imaginable. We see Homosexuality, worship of the creation rather than the creator GOD. (3) There were Pagans, Moralists believed that they could achieve a salvation and redemption in their own terms. One example is my wife’s grandparents. They believe that simply being good and outwardly doing good, then they should see the gates of heaven, which is in stark contrast to (Romans 3:10). In today’s world, the same sins that were committed, then are being committed now, but more so because of things such as the internet because, the...
