Tony’s Story Tony’s story is a short story written by Leslie Marmon Silko. The story is about Tony and his good friend Leon. In the beginning of the story, Leon had just returned from the army. Leon is a character who according to his friend Tony, has a drinking problem. When Tony first saw Leon at what seems to be a fair, based on the description given from Tony that Leon was standing near a ferris wheel. Leon is drinking a wine bottle out of a paper bag. Leon is a drinker that possibly has PTSD from his stint in serving in the army.
The first event to happen in the short story occurs right after Leon gives Tony a dollar to buy cheeseburger. This indicates that the story is taking place in a very old time period. If a hamburger only costs a dollar then the story must have taken place sometime in the early to mid 90’s. When Tony is getting his hamburger, he is alarmed when he sees a cop pushing through crowds of people heading in Leon’s direction. His first thought is about the wine bottle in Leon’s hand. He then sees the cop punch Leon in the face. Leon is laying on the dusty ground in pain, blood bubbling out of his mouth. What did Leon do to deserve a punch in the face from a state trooper? The story reads, “The cop didn’t leave until they laid Leon in the back of the paddy wagon” (Silko 362). Why did the cop have to wait and make sure that Leon was taken away. Would the cop have done more if Leon was able to walk away from this first incident? Why does this cop have it out for Leon? The cop obviously didn’t like something that Leon had been doing at what seemed to be a fair. The cop didn’t do or say anything about the open alcohol that Leon had so either this was acceptable in the time period the story is taking place in or the cop is out for something else. The only hint given in the first part of the story that stands out is what happens when Leon is on the ground directly after getting hit. “The tribal policeman knelt over Leon, and one of them looked up at the state cop and asked what was going on” (Silko 362) This gives the reader an idea that Leon might be some sort of Indian or Native American. The cop possibly struck Leon because he’s an extreme racist and didn’t like to see an Indian in the area he is supposed to patrol.
Leon hears that the cop wasn’t punished for any crime and he becomes outraged. “I’ll kill the big bastard if he comes around here again” (Silko 363). Later that day Leon pulled into a gas station and asked Tony to head inside for a soda. Tony stopped in the doorway and ran back to the car when he alarmingly came across the cop that punched Leon in the face inside the gas station. Leon left in a panic and headed for the nearest highway. Leon said “I didn’t see his car” (Silko 363) and Tony said “hidden” (Silko 363). This means that the cop was waiting for them to pull into the gas station. What reason does the cop have to hide his car? The cop seems to be sneaky, he really doesn’t like Leon and this is obvious. All was going well for Leon and Tony until they see that the cop in the rear view mirror, following them. The cop pulled them over and Leon was nervous, hands shaking and all. The cop came to the window and forced both of them to get out of the car. He had come to the window, even pushed his head inside demanding “Get out. Both of you” (Silko 363). They both spoke to the cop, answering questions on where they were headed before the cop spit out his gum and told them that he doesn’t like Indians. “I don’t like smart guys, Indian. It’s because of you bastards that I’m here. They transferred me here because of the Indians ”(Silko 364) This is another time where it becomes evident that the cop doesn’t like Indians. Although it is possible that the cop is not a racist and his job is just to make sure all of the Indians stay off of his land.
Leon and Tony were headed to Leon’s uncles’ sheep camp to stay there for awhile. As soon as they turned off the highway, they saw the cop following them again. The cop pulled up next to them and tried to force them off the road. “My body began to shake and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to speak” (Silko 365). Both Leon and Tony were nervous Tony said “We’ve got to kill it Leon, we’ve got to burn the body for sure ”(Silko 366). This is surprising, based on both Leon and Tony’s previous actions, Leon would have been the one to mention killing the cop. Leon eventually pulled over. The cop stood in front of the car and when Leon got out he said “You’ve made a huge mistake, Indian” (Silko 366). The cop moved towards Leon and before he could get anywhere, Tony shot the cop. “The shot sounded far away and I couldn’t remember aiming” (Silko 366). Tony shot the cop instinctively, he felt as if Leon was in danger and he did all he could to help his good friend. “He was motionless on the ground and the bone wand lay near his feet. The tumbleweeds and tall yellow grass were sprayed with glossy, bright blood. He was on his back, and the sand between his legs and along his left side was soaking up the dark heavy blood”. (Silko 366) The cop was obviously dead. Tony being the one that killed the cop was definitely not expected. Based on all of the events happening between Leon and the cop, Leon would definitely be the one expected to kill the cop. They both started were nervous. “Leon acted strange, and he kept looking at me like he wanted to run” (Silko 366). This could’ve been because Leon thought that if they were to get caught for killing the cop that he was going to be the suspected culprit based on his past actions with the cop that is now dead. They decided to burn both the body and the car. “My god Tony. What’s wrong with you? That’s a state cop you just killed” (Silko 366). Leon is being a hypocrite when he says this. Leon had said earlier in the story “I’ll kill the big bastard if he comes around here again” (Silko 363). Earlier in the story he was ready to kill the cop if they ran into him again but now he’s shocked that Tony just killed the cop.
This final scene was surprising. The conclusion was made that the cop was definitely out to kill Leon, but instead of that happening, the exact opposite happened. Tony killed the cop. The entire story the cop was definitely out for Leon, supposedly because Leon was an Indian in an area where Indians were obviously not wanted. The extreme hatred and desire to kill Leon gives reason to believe that the cop wanted to do more then just keep the Indians off of his land. For example, the cop could’ve been an extreme racist that absolutely despised and wanted to kill all of the Indians on his land. This is most likely the reason that this cop was put on the job of making sure all of the Indians stayed out of his area. The General in charge knew that this cop would take it to a personal level to make sure there are no Indians. In this case, the cop ended up on the other side of the bullet as Leon and Tony watched the cop’s car go up in flames. “Everything is O.K now Leon, its killed. They sometimes take on strange forms” (Silko 366). The story ends abruptly but Tony and Leon then went on to live their normal lives.

...Tony’s story Literary analysis of the short story “Tony’s story” by Leslie Silko. Tony’s story is about two indian boys. One of them, named Leon, has just arrived back to the pueblo from the army. The other one is called Tony. The story takes place in the middle of the summer. On San Lorenzo’s day, a holiday, Leon suddenly gets hit by a cop, without any reason. Afterwards, Leon is of course upset about the incident -“I’ll kill the big basterd if he comes around here again”, Leon kept saying.” (p. 2, l. 12). Tony keeps telling Leon, that he should just forget about the incident, but Leon won’t let it g o. On the night of the incident, Tony has a nightmare involving a witch (p. 2, l. 5), wich he keeps refering to as being the cop. The boys bump into the cop the day after, and the cop follows them on the highway home, and stops them. While the cop is talking to Tony and Leon, Tony doesn’t talk to or look in the eyes of the cop, because his parent’s learned him not to look into the eyes of the witches. The next day, Leon and Tony goes for another ride in the car. They get very far out on the meadow, before they realize that the cop is following them. They stop the car, and the cop and Leon gets out of the cars. Inside of the car, Tony gets more and more freaked out, in his belive, that the cop is the masked dancer or the witch, wich he dreamt about. He sees the cop threaten Leon, and shoots the .30-30 rifle and kills the cop. Both Leon and Tony panik because of their sudden...

...Assignment One – Film Analysis (Mise en scene, Hero) Hero (Zhang Yimou, 2002), is a Chinese martial art movie which was first released in China on 24th Oct 2002. Starring by Jet Li as the nameless protagonist, Tony Leung as Broken Sword and Maggie Cheung as Flying Snow. This film was based on the story of the attempt on assassination of the Qin emperor by Jing Ke. The scene that I chose to carry out my analysis would be the part from 45.07 minutes to 50.07 minutes where it started from Flying Snow’s effort to stop Broken Sword from appearing at the battle until her fight started with Nameless. In hero, from the scene 46.54 minutes until 47.02 minutes, the settings of the scene act as a metaphor. The location shows a wide compound overwhelming Flying Snow which emphasize that she is going to confront the battle with Nameless alone. It give us a feeling that she is tough and determined to face what is after her even she is aware that her enemy is much more powerful and stronger than she is. She firmly walks toward her horse also denote to us that Flying Snow is unafraid to die and is mentally prepared to face what is about to fall upon her. In addition, the scene 47.11 minutes to 47.16 minutes shows that Broken Sword is standing high up on the hill, portraying the feeling that they are growing further apart and have to leave one another’s life in the future. At the same time, the contradiction between their locations show that he was given the chance to stay alive contrasting...

Scott nevertheless submitted his $429,000 proposal with great confidence and even boasted to his regional sales manager that the deal was “in the bag”. After two weeks of unreturned phone calls, however, Scott got the feeling his confidence had been sorely misplaced. “Hi, Joanne, Long time, no hear. And your bid is well above the competition’s. Kakuchi came in under $390,000, and Akita Limited at a little over 400K”. She waited, and Scott waited back, not wanting to show his anxiousness. “The way I count it,” she finally continued, “You’re $22,000 too high, and I just can’t sell that here”. “Well, Joanne, you...

While Tony Kitchner was hired to develop these competitive advantages abroad, his international strategy of “planting the flag” and “targeting expats” was executed haphazardly and resulted in losses for the firm. His eventual dismissal was largely due to his inability to manage intra-firm tensions. The arrival of Noli Tingzon marks a critical juncture for Jollibee, where it will begin entering the US market. The key to Jollibee’s success in Daly City will be its ability to find a local partner that can leverage its organizational advantage, while navigating the challenges of conducting business in the United States. I. Creating Competitive Advantages in the Filipino market Jollibee’s success in its home market developed as a result of its ability to better meet the needs of the Filipino customer. Your output of this case study explores the “softer” side of project management, including how to communicate your results to your key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. The point of the case study is to show you that projects experience change over time, which forces you, the project manager, to modify and adapt your project. This case study is broken into three sections, Sections 1, 2, and 3. In each section you will be given some information on your project and then asked to “respond” to some of your stakeholders. Jane Eyre Statement of Intenet

...Statement of Intent Independent Study Project Jane Eyre There are many themes within Jane Eyre including religion, order and education. However the greatest one of all is love. This is why the topic for my ISP is the effect love has on the story and the reader in Jane Eyre. I chose this topic simply because while reading the novel I found that love had a crucial role in the novel. It seemed to have the richest descriptions and most alluring imagery. Therefore in this ISP I will demonstrate how love is the most important theme in Jane Eyre, as it greatly affects the plot, is present in many forms throughout the whole book and gives the story a deeper connection to its readers than any other themes. The major points in my essay are: In Jane Eyre there are many important themes including order, education, love and religion. Education is important because Jane is a governess and enjoys learning throughout the book. Order is important because it restricts Jane from being happy at the Reed mansion and restricts her passionate nature. Religion is important because it is the main reason she left Thronfeild. But none of these themes has such a major role in continuing the plot then love . Love is present in many forms throughout the novel such as when she is staying at the Reeds, at Lowood, at Moor House and at Thornfeild. Since it is seen in so many different forms, it is easy for anyone to connect with it. Throughout the novel Jane never revokes her love for Mr. Rochester...
