Discuss several aspects of professional communication as it relates to the use of language in terms of form (e.g., clarity, accuracy) and content (culture and/or ethics). Cite the references you used to compose your response (from required readings).
Professional communication is a skill every nurse needs, especially one with a graduate education. As mentioned in the article Professional Communication and Practice (GCU, 2013), some of the forms of professional communication are clarity, accuracy, conciseness, preciseness and sensitivity. Being in the healthcare industry, we communicate with a wide range of health care providers in different fields almost every day. When we speak to them about our patients, it is vital that we speak to them in a language that is easily understood, stating the truthfulness of the matter in a few words as needed to get to the point.
When we speak to our patient’s, it is also very important that we be careful with our choice of words and the tone we use to say it. We should communicate to them in a way that they will understand what is being told to them. One way to do this by looking at their cultural background. Knowledge of an individual’s cultural diversity is vital. It helps us to be effective communicators. Their educational level also plays a big role in how we ought to speak to them.
However, all our communication is not verbal. There will be times when we have to communicate in writing. Even so, all the forms of the professional communication mentioned above applies here as well. Making our point clear as possible with facts and stating it to the point will help us become professional
