I have found my most important accomplishment to be my assumption of the presidential position in my high school’s robotics team, TorBots. As president of TorBots, I have made a difference in my school through the diligent support of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education. I have grown very proud of this accomplishment for it has changed me to become socially outgoing, innovative, hardworking, and effective at teaching. My connections through FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and my presidency in TorBots have also led me to FLL (FIRST Lego League), an organization in which I volunteer, teaching middle school students the basic fundamentals of Engineering. As an FRC (First Robotics Competition) team, TorBots competes internationally each year. Given only 6 weeks to build a highly competitive robot, it is important that I train people during the preseason. During just this past summer and school year I have spent over 800 hours planning, teaching, and preparing over 100 fellow high school students so that we can be successful in our upcoming build-season. Starting as a member, I worked my way up to being president of the team. This accomplishment is important to me because my goal in life is to teach others about STEM education and though this I have proven to myself that I am able to do so.

I am very proud of becoming president of TorBots because I have always put a great deal of enthusiasm into teaching others about engineering. Now, through TorBots, I am able to teach others about mechanical and electrical engineering. Through over 2000 hours of work since sophomore year, I have shown the mentors that I am completely motivated and able to run the team. I am proud of being the President of TorBots because I have spent my entire life trying to get where I am

Everyone just work on their own, making the team a collection of individuals rather than a real group. Without a channel to communicate with each other, it is hard to develop a sense of unity. The frequently organized business trips and the multiple projects at once also show that there is a miscommunication between the secretary and other members. Moreover, there is no standard of excellence to regulate and guide the performance of the employees. Team accomplishment is not being recognized as well. Members thus cannot find the value of performing to the utmost and are frustrated with the heavy workload. Given the above situation, the leader seems doing nothing to handle the stressful circumstances. Base on the analysis of team effectiveness, Jim should intervene at this time at internal level, focusing on relational actions. Building team relationship for a virtual team is even more important than collocated team. As they are working across time and space together with a need of dependence, the most critical aspect to enhance team efficiency is to focus on the collaboration between members.
