The tornado was an estimated 1.5 miles wide, wider than the city itself, and traveled for almost 22 miles. The tornadoes winds were estimated have reached 205 miles per hour by The National Weather Service. With 95% of the town destroyed, and the other 5% severely damaged the city council passed a resolution stating that all municipal buildings larger than 4,000 square feet be built to LEED-platinum standards making it the first city in the nation having done so. LEED is a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods.

...nature disaster is any catastrophic event that is caused by the natural processes of the earth. The severity of a disaster is measured in lives lost, economic loss, and the ability of the population to rebuild. All natural disasters cause loss in some way. Depending on the severity, lives can be lost in any number of disasters. Some disasters cause more loss of life than others, and population density affects the death count as well. Prediction of earthquake Long term forecasting founded on the knowledge of place where the earthquakes have taken place previously. In order to study the occurrence of earthquake, the knowledge of the current tectonic setting, geological records and the history records are analyzed critically to establish locations and occurrence intervals of earthquake. Pale seismology and seismic gaps are the most crucial aspect when carrying out analysis. Paleoseismology is the study of the earthquakes that have occurred before. Through the analysis of the offset in layers of sediment near the fault zones, it becomes very easy to predict the occurrence intervals of earthquakes. If it is established that earthquakes have interval recurrence of a hundred years, and there is no available records of earthquakes in the last 100 years, then a long- term forecast is done. Through the effect, effort can be undertaken to minimize seismic risk. (Davis, L. 2008). Seismic gaps It is a zone along an active area that is tectonic with no recent occurrence of an earthquake...

Global Warming

...Global warming: The beginning of Armageddon My Artefact (1) / My Newspaper article (1) Scientists, celebrities, and everyday people have been trying to understand the nature of global warming. Controversy is rampant and there is intense debate around the world on the subject. The most obvious thing that can be said about global warming is that the earth is getting warmer. Specifically, the temperatures near the surface of the earth and the temperatures in the ocean are rising. Since 1990, there have been 10 years that have been hotter than any others in recorded history. The greenhouse effect is said to be responsible for global warming. The greenhouse effect causes certain vapours and gases to form a sort of blanket that covers and warms the earth. Water vapour, methane, carbon dioxide, and several other trace gases make up this blanket. The greenhouse effect itself is not disputed. No controversy exists on this point because the greenhouse effect is recognized as an inherently beneficial process. If all the energy that struck the earth was reflected right back into space, no one could live on earth. This is what would happen without this blanket that is caused by acceptable levels of global warming. However, global warming is not all good. It can cause the earth's covering to increase in density. With a denser blanket over the earth, less of the heat is reflected back into space. This upsets the delicate balance between heat and cold that is usually maintained...

...consumers over the age of 6 had participated in social game playing over the past three months. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the 2010 population was 281,421,906, and Shaer’s 56.8 million consumers represent approximately 20% of the overall population. I was surprised to find the accuracy in Shaer’s numbers representing one-fifth of the U.S. population in 2010. That is a staggering number of people doing nothing more than playing games! To further understand the impact these numbers have on social gaming sites such as PopCap Games, I visited the Information Solutions Group website that was responsible for collecting the data relative to how the gaming population is broken down among gender, age, frequency of play, etc. Their updated study dated November 14, 2011, led to a plethora of information regarding the social gaming phenomenon and who the players are within the system. Special Operations for Emergency Medical Personnel

...CAPABILITY OF EMERGENCY SERVICES TO REACT TO DISATERS Devon Clemons American Military University 12 February 2015 Abstract Every day throughout United States, thousands of emergency personnel respond to various types emergencies both natural and man-made. Such disasters pose significant problems for emergency managers and emergency response personnel as well as the medical facilities that treat them. At a moment’s notice, medical facilities can become overwhelmed after a disaster from people seeking medical attention. The key to success is information sharing and management among these responding organizations during and after a disaster. The idea of sharing information does not occur overnight, the plan should be implemented before any disaster occurs. Many of the issues responders face range from a lack of preparedness and training of emergency responders to a lack of communication. Disaster readiness remains uneven across the United States especially in small cities or rural areas and without significant disaster preparedness many emergency responders or emergency facilities such as hospitals or clinics remain unprepared for natural disasters. As a result, many facilities may be unprepared to accept and care for an influx of patients as a result of a terrorist attacks, chemical spills, and natural disasters. This paper will explore problems emergency responders may face during disasters due to a lack readiness and preparedness. In addition, this paper...
