In the article, “Science shows that torture doesn’t work and is counterproductive,” Rupert Stone describes the manner in which prisoners were tortured in order to obtain information. Stone provides ideas, research, and expert opinions to support the idea that torture is an ineffective interrogation method. Stone provides an example of an experiment performed by psychiatrist Charles Morgan in 2006 involving the torture of soldiers. These soldiers were provided with the information required for the interrogation portion of the experiment. Although they were,”motivated to cooperate,” the soldiers did not provide accurate information. Due to the psychological response, the soldiers were unable to produce the information previously given to them.
