...boot is kicking”. It is separated from Reggio Calabria by the Strait of Messina. The bridge connecting Reggio Calabria to Sicily is still a dream even though they have been promising this bridge for over 20 years. They have started construction, and it is impossible to say when or if it will ever be completed. Unfortunately organized crime exists here in Sicily, you won’t actually see it because it has become that subtle. The mafia continues to exercise its negative influence on Sicily and beyond. Most of the businesses such as shops, hotels and restaurants are forced to pay the “pizzo”, that means protection money. This extortion keeps the Sicilian people relatively poor among the Italian regions. Also you will find political corruption, the theft of public money and taxes. Yet there are business owners willing to fight against extortion. With the special protection of police and virulent public support, a growing number of business owners are operating with no mafia influence. Although the mafia has deep roots in and around Sicily, this island still has an abundance of things to offer. The Mediterranean climate with abundant sunshine, balanced rainfall, fertile soils, all create the perfect conditions for quality agriculture. The main products in Sicily are citrus fruits, olives, almonds and grapes. Wine plays a very important part of Sicily’s economy. The four major cities here in Sicily are Palermo, Catania, Messina and Syracuse; all four cities are important trade...

...Drowling Mountain Resort Situation Drowling Mountain is a community resort, situated 45minutes away from Syracuse, New York, one of the larger cities in New York, with a population of 145,170 people in 2010. Drowling Mountain was also located near some surrounding communities in Onondaga County, which has a population of 321,830 people. Drowling Mountain offers snow related activities such as snowboarding and skiing, along with operating a full service chalet, which has equipment rentals, food and beverage for sale, ski instructions and lodging rentals available for overnight guests. Drowling Mountain has a close connection with the city of Syracuse and its local businesses, however, over the past couple of years, Drowling has been struggling to cover its fixed assets and operational costs, which is a reflection of their lower top-line revenue sources. Being a community resort, they find themselves competing against the other 34 resorts inside the state of New York and they need to establish some points of differentiation, “only here” type of activities and services that would make them unique and sustainable against the other rivaling resorts in the state. Objective Drowling Mountain needs to develop a new marketing plan, which is focused on top ling growth for the company. Increasing sales and having new pricing schemes would be very beneficial for the company, as they attempt to lower their financial debt and increase their cash flow on hand. Analysis Environment: ...

...developing nations. To understand fully what globalization is and how it is changing our communities, we need to explore everything surrounding it such global free market, capitalism, motivations of multi or transnational corporations and the convergence of global markets. Then we will understand the growing in equalities between the rich and the poor, and this is a major thing in all communities. From a community viewpoint the definition of globalization is the intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away and vice versa. Globalization has shaped my community both positively and negatively. In this era, there is no state that has benefited more or suffered less than New York. The impact of globalization has forever changed the way we do business. Most of the area has turned globalization into an asset, but there is a few regions that has suffered unfortunately. The benefits of globalization have been limited and sporadic in Binghamton, Buffalo (which is where I am from), Syracuse and Utica – Rome metropolitan areas, where traditional manufacturing accounted for an extraordinarily high share of all private sector jobs. New York is the country’s third largest dairy producer, second largest apple grower and a major producer of wine. Let me tell you, this...

...Era of Low-Cost Airlines an article from Journal of the American Planning Association (JAPA) 2006 written by Richard de Neufville; air transportation industry is changing fundamentally. Richard de Neufville is a professor of engineering systems and environmental engineering at Massachusetts Institute of technology. He has consulted on airport related projects in many cites which led him to write this article. Neufville presented the elementary good business practice which is planning for airport access that focuses on the companies that have resources and avoid taking long term obligations for clients that have neither money now nor good future. Big airlines such as Delta and US airways are funding the construction of luxurious airports in major cities, but not taking into consideration the business they are losing to low-cost airlines. United States competitors (low cost airlines) accounted for only 8% of the market in 1995 and a decade later these competitors now control the future of air travel in the United States. Research shows that 50% of the U.S. revenue passenger-miles were flown on either the low cost airlines or on network airlines for the fare rate. The average cost of traditional airlines per passenger is about 15 cents per available seat mile compared to 9 cents for low-cost carriers. This change has reduced the cost of air transport and set many traditional carriers into bankruptcy. Low-cost carriers function differently from the traditional carriers, not only...

...tenable in the long-term as it will not protect forests, retain biodiversity, and provide some wood products over time. We are increasingly depending on places beyond our borders to provide our wood places with far less resources and knowledge about how to manage forests responsibly. By importing wood products, we export not only environmental consequences but jobs and dollars ( Jack Ward, T. (n.d). Conservation biology needs to reach out to a much broader community of academics and practitioners in fields as diverse as anthropology, history, political geography, and environmental psychology (Bernstein, M., & Ladle, R. J. (2010). There has been little recognition in conservation biology of the benefits that could be derived from collaboration with industrial designers. This lack of interest is probably mutual because, at first view, nature conservation seems to have little to offer a profession that seems to be associated primarily with the urban environment (Bernstein, M., & Ladle, R....

...Next, in a long descriptive paragraph, Richard is introduced. He is first connected to Frank by the flat opening line of the next paragraph: “One night he beat Frank.” Only then does the reader learn about Mary Ann, and Matt’s and Ruth’s differing feelings about her. In a lovely, lyrical scene, Mary Ann joins the Fowlers for a barbeque after a day at the beach. Matt’s love for his son is mixed with a wistful attraction to Mary Ann. She is beautiful, but Matt sees in her eyes a sadness and pain that he and his family have been spared, and he wishes he could help and comfort her. The next paragraph starts with, “Richard Strout shot Frank in front of the children.” Such jarring shifts of mood are used to emphasize how quickly life can turn from sunny to violent and how swiftly the good things in life can be taken away. The story’s point of view is that of the limited omniscient narrator. The reader sees the events through Matt’s eyes only, so Ruth’s and Willis’s roles in the tragedy are only implied. There is little dialogue; instead, Dubus paints vivid descriptions of the small details of life: the sights that the men pass on their way to Richard’s home and to the place of his execution, the way Richard’s socks and underwear are folded in the drawer when Matt makes him pack his suitcase, and Matt’s memory...

The purpose of advertising is to inform the public about the new products and services offered by the company, persuade the public to buy the products and make them to remember the name of the brand and the company so that this could repeat purchase and generate profit of the company. According to the famous ad man, David Ogilvy, said, “I do not regard advertising as entertainment or an art form, but as a medium of information.” (McQuerrey. L, 2014). This has proves that advertising the product and services are extremely crucial for an organization. This is because advertising could increase the sales subconsciously and build a substantial reputation in the field. How to make an advertising campaign be truly successful? Advertising’s job purely and simply to communicate, to a defined audience, information and a frame-of-mind that stimulate action. Advertising succeeds or fails...

...I HISTORY OF ITALY History The migrations of Indo-European peoples into Italy probably began about 2000 B.C. and continued until 1000 B.C. From about the 9th century B.C. until it was overthrown by the Romans in the 3rd century B.C. , the Etruscan civilization was dominant. By 264 B.C. , all Italy south of Cisalpine Gaul was under the leadership of Rome. For the next seven centuries, until the barbarian invasions destroyed the western Roman Empire in the 4th and 5th centuries A.D. , the history of Italy is largely the history of Rome. From 800 on, the Holy Roman Emperors, Roman Catholic popes, Normans, and Saracens all vied for control over various segments of the Italian peninsula. Numerous city-states, such as Venice and Genoa, whose political and commercial rivalries were intense, and many small principalities flourished in the late Middle Ages. Although Italy remained politically fragmented for centuries, it became the cultural center of the Western world from the 13th to the 16th century. Etymology The assumptions on the etymology of the name "Italia" are very numerous and the corpus of the solutions proposed by historians and linguists is very wide. According to one of the more common explanations, the term Italia, from Latin: Italia, was borrowed through Greek from the Oscan Víteliú, meaning "land of young cattle" (cf. Lat vitulus "calf", Umbvitlo "calf").The bull was a symbol of the southern Italic tribes and was often depicted goring the Roman wolf as a defiant symbol...
