...I watched the movie Training Day. This movie shows many examples of unmoral and unethical police work. Denzel Washington is a narcotics detective for the LAPD named Alonzo Harris. His methods of enforcing the law are very questionable during the film, if not corrupt. Harris’ job is to train rookie Jake Hoyt over a 24-hour period. Many Ethical dilemmas arise for Hoyt and this presents questions for him whether or not to follow along with Harris, and if his methodology for ridding the streets in South Central Los Angeles is right or wrong. After breakfast the two get Alonzo’s low rider and hit the streets of South Central Los Angeles. They first spot a teenage girl dealing drugs in the park. And the stop the college student buyers and instead of arresting the buyers Alonzo takes the drugs and lets the students go. Jake would have done the opposite in this situation before. Before long Alonzo tells Jake he has to take a hit of this marijuana. But Jake doesn’t want to. Alonzo puts a gun to his head until he does. Alonzo says the failure to take the drug on the street could get him killed by a dealer. After smoking the marijuana Alonzo tells him that it was laced with PCP. This hypothetical question was put to the test in the movie Training Day, a movie based on ethical dilemmas involving two police officers. Later in the movie when driving the streets Jake notices a young high school girl getting sexually attacked by two men in alley way. This first thing Jake does it jumps out...

...most part can be a pretty tedious task, never the less it is part of my daily living. Most of my current writing is done for school essays or work purposes. Having to write detailed professional field reports for supervisors and managers to read. I think the hardest part for me when composing essays has always been the initial development and getting started. Making sense of what is in my thoughts and translating those ideas clearly on paper. Often times, I think really hard into it and just coming up with that opening sentence to catch my reader’s attention can truly frustrate me. Once I get started there is nothing stopping me at that point. I just let the flow of thoughts and ideas smoothly translate into my essay while still making sense and sticking to my main objective, which is sticking to central idea and not getting off topic. As I been told many times over, the main purpose of composing is to send a direct clear message across to the reader. Once I have reached the conclusion of my essay, I feel a sense of true accomplishment and pride in my essay. I have successfully pass the initial hurdle. Then comes the easy part which is the revision of the first draft. The revising process is piece of cake and where all the fun starts. Going back proofreading and making all necessary adjustments in order to have a solid and well polish essay is the goal. One of my greatest accomplishments for me personally, was to be given the opportunity to serve my country honorably...

...Business and Management Enterprise Risk Management Enterprise Risk Management The Non-Linear Pro salesman told the manager of Quick Takes Video that the editing system leased would allow the employees to edit material twice as fast after only a day and a half of set up and training. After all employees received the one-day training course, completed the video tutorial, and read the manual, problems with the equipment stopped production of a Quick Takes Video project. During an attempt to insert a CD, an employee cut her finger on a sharp edge of the poorly designed equipment. Two different types of torts arose in the Product Liability Video. One type, an intentional tort occurred as a result of the implied warrantee when the salesman described the benefits of the editing system. The employee’s cut finger could result in an unintentional tort because the manufacturer has the requirement of selling a safe product but did not intend to harm the employee. The main tort violation from the video involves the implied warrantee given by the Non-Linear Pro salesman. The manager of Quick Takes Video perceived the quote taken from the video Cheeseman (2010), “Any of your editors, if they’re computer savvy, they’re going to pick this up in a day, day and a half tops” (video, 02:79), as an expressed warrantee. This perception persuaded the manager to lease the equipment. Team A used enterprise risk management (ERM) to analyze the business risk associated with the violation (Harb, 2008). Adequate...

...Biblical Essay Biblical Essay In this essay I will discuss how the foundational to the Christian faith is the belief that mankind is created in the image of God and explain how this belief affects the way someone with a business degree would interact with someone within their field of study. I will also discuss that just like a manager has their employees come to them during a critical decision making process, we turn to God for his guidance during a time when a decision that we need to make could be a life changing one. Should we turn to our managers for help even when the decision is easy? Should we pray to God more even when times are good? Since mankind is created in the image of God, I should be more understanding to my employees when they make a mistake. Who am I not to forgive an employee when they make a mistake on a project? Is our God not a forgiving God? As a manger I am not above the rules nor above God. A manager will make mistakes just like each and every one of us will. They will be held accountable just like we will be held accountable for our sins by God. Even though we are being held accountable, it does not mean that we have not been forgiven for our mistake at work and forgiven by God. “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.’ ‘But if you do not forgive men of their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15) An employee does not want a mistake to be held over their...

The second option is opening a store in the Auburn Mall, and the third is not opening a store at all. To do nothing now, and wait for a better time to move in to the market. Shuzworld is also considering purchasing market research. I recommend that Shuzworld should use the decision tree graphical method, because of the nature of the issue (a graphic manner was asked to be used). A very important reason to why I am recommending this tool, is because the decision tree method is most commonly used for this kind of cases, as the Shuzworld presented case. The profitability problem is one of the most important problems of future profitability when opening a new store process and is the important content of the course of operation management. By recommending the use of this crucial tool, we need to understand, that this...

...Essays and the Work Environment Craig Woods University of Phoenix Business Literature ENG/120 Paul Renaud October 13, 2013 Essays and the Work Environment Frustration was the perspective that I found in the “Jobbed” and “McDonald’s – We Do it all for you” essays. Each essay had at least one character that dealt with some degree of frustration. It was enough to affect their decision making. Andrew Griffin from the “Jobbed” essay was accused of stealing ball bearings. He quotes “Worked nine years for the man and he still don’t trust me.” Andrew packed his tools and left. Trust was his frustration. He could have stolen half the warehouse out the backdoor. He never went beyond his 30 minute lunch break. Jason Pratt and June Sanders is frustrated with the treatment they received working for McDonald’s. Jason is a retired griddle man. June worked on the fries. Jason’s frustration came from having no creativity on the job. He is treated as a machine. The beeps and bells from the griddle told him what to do. He is known as a legend with the other outlets in the area. Jason is the fastest griddle man around. On his last day, Jason took out the trash. While reading this essay it will discuss the similarities and differences of virtue ethics, utilitarianism, and deontology, theory as it relates to ethics and morals. Also how a personal experience that explains the relationship between virtue, values, and moral concepts as it relates to one of the theories. Ethics and morality play a major role in day to day situations; they dictate how to respond in an acceptable manner. Similarities and Differences Virtue Ethics deals with what is right or wrong. It is a character-based ethic that views ones action over a period and not for a single action. Utilitarianism theory implies that an action is morally right when it creates a worthy result for the greater good of the people. Deontology is a moral theory that emphasis on one’s duty to do the right thing or take an action, without thinking of the consequences. All three theories deal with how a person perceives, judges, and react to a situation. Each theory deals with demonstrating the good in a person; making the right or morally correct decision. ...Essay #1: Attitude, skills and knowledge differentiate people. Elaborate with two examples on how you would differentiate yourself from other applicants to the PGP. (300 words max) “Abhinav is the role model of dedication and sincerity”, said my Project Manager during my farewell at Wipro. I have a very strong work ethic – deadlines, promises and targets hold great meaning for me. Starting off my career as a technical consultant for client Bacardi, I quickly ramped up and started handling complex deliverables. A month before the project completion, I had a road accident, injuring my right hand and foot badly. Since the project was running on tight deadlines, I was concerned that my absence would burden my colleagues. So, though I could barely move my hand and foot, I resumed work within 2 days. Seeing my condition, my managers asked me to take leave. Yet, because I knew the team needed me, I continued to work so that we could deliver the project on time. Over the next few weeks, I even supported the team on weekends, and together, we successfully met the deadline. The feeling of satisfaction this gave me is indescribable. The other attribute that differentiates me is self-discipline. I consider fitness an important part of my life. Till last year, I had a BMI of 26.8 and weighed 86kgs. Knowing that this could affect my health badly, I started a regular intensive workout regime. In 6 weeks, I reduced 16kilos, and started feeling fitter! Since then, I workout religiously and...

...David Holmes Sim Barhoum English 101 Effective College English II February 09, 2013 Argument Essay “Adult Education” Modern day America has the ability to provide a basic education to anyone. What does it mean to be educated? An idea of education is someone who has all the answers. It could be a person who has been through the hardship of school and has come out on top, or someone who makes a living with what they have learned. In “Adult Education” by Mortimer J. Adler, he describes how society’s education system is flawed and does not provide the best education for people. Alder speaks of how education starts at childhood and ends when they become an adult and receive their degree. To him this idea is wrong because youth have not developed the patience or the experience to be educated. Therefore, education only truly comes when a person goes through life and has become a mature adult. The value of education will never be understood by youth, but by people who have gone through the hardships of life and have gained wisdom through life experience. In order to fully understand what Mortimer Adler is talking about in his essay, “Adult Education,” we must understand the historical and cultural context from which he is speaking. Modern readers who misunderstand this context are likely to misinterpret his intentions and thereby fail to see the logic behind his recommendations, which are still relevant to educational reform issues today. Adler was a philosopher enamored...
