...Perfectly Preserved I attended the Big Morongo Valley Preserve on National Public Lands Day. My mom drove me to Morongo Valley on September 30, 2017. The rangers spoke to us about what I did to better the preserve. I chose to trim trees and clear walking paths. Two rangers explained how to properly trim trees to not harm plants. Trimming branches allows trees to grow healthy branches and leaves by the “removing of dead matter” (“Tree Trimming: Why It Is Important”). To successfully clear each path, the group of volunteers and I took five pairs of different shears, gloves, and tarps to place the clipped branches. Trees create a long lasting impression on people as well as “the effect of the mood” on the community (Evens, Erv “Trees of Strength”)....

...Contractor’s insurance is a two-party contract between the contractor and an insurance company, protects the contractor from financial loss, and comes in two forms: liability insurance and worker’s compensation. Liability insurance covers damage to your property caused by the contractor but does not cover incomplete work, and worker’s compensation covers wages and medical expenses of workers who are injured on the job. So, how does this impact you? Well, let’s say you hire a contractor that doesn’t have insurance and/or a license and they get seriously injured or killed while completing your project. The legal system could potentially determine that you are considered legally responsible for the accident and also find you financially responsible for the worker’s medical expenses and/or wrongful death. Closing If you’re still unsure about all of the above, just remember that a licensed landscaper will also be bonded and insured so if you’re looking for a starting point, you should absolutely start with the licensed contractors. A licensed contractor needs at least three years of experience in the landscaping field and has to pass an exam to ensure they are knowledgeable in the area’s climate, soil, and greenery, as well as environmental standards and...

...FACE/WA Fatality Assessment & Control Evaluation Fatal Facts December 27, 2005 Report # 47-10-2005 Electrocution Hazards Working Near Overhead Power Lines Many occupations may require workers to perform their job tasks near overhead power lines. Construction workers, truck drivers, tree service workers, mobile equipment operators, agricultural workers, and others find themselves carrying-out their work in the vicinity of energized overhead power transmission lines. They may not be trained to recognize the dangers of electrocution if their bodies, equipment, tools, work materials, or vehicles come near to an overhead line. Electrical utility workers are generally highly trained to recognize and manage electrical hazards – other workers are less so. Most high voltage electrocutions in Washington State do not involve power line workers. Both national and Washington State data show a high number of fatalities for workers in construction, tree trimming, agriculture, and others who frequently work near overhead power lines. The following information is primarily intended for workers other than electrical utility employees but may benefit anyone working around power lines. Working Near Overhead Power Lines: Stay Away! Stay Alive! These are brief case descriptions of selected fatalities that happened during work near energized overhead power lines in Washington State during the years 1998-2005: Case1 On August 19, 1998, a painter moving a 32-foot aluminum extension ladder...

...Working safely with trees recommended practices for the amenity tree industry WORKING SAFELY WITH TREES Foreword The amenity tree industry presents a challenging and changeable work environment associated with a high rate of injuries and several fatalities – the majority involving unexpected falling trees and branches. Tree-related fatalities were examined in depth as part of the Work Related Fatalities Program – a joint venture involving the Victorian WorkCover Authority, the State Coroner’s Office and VIOSH Australia (University of Ballarat). The Tree Felling Safety Group (TFSG) was formed as a result of this work to promote health and safety in forestry, arboriculture and urban tree industries. The TFSG includes representatives from industry, local government, unions and WorkSafe Victoria – the operational name for the health and safety arm of the Victorian WorkCover Authority. The Group is keen to see potential solutions implemented to help to prevent death and serious injury involving tree workers. The development of this guidance material was a TFSG initiative. The result is a practical and user-friendly guide produced by industry representatives that aims to improve workers’ awareness and understanding of common hazards, risks and safety requirements, while assisting employers to meet their legal obligations. I urge everyone working in the amenity tree industry to use this booklet as a constant reference point, particularly supervisors and team...

...mosMos--a fragile creature, whose bite infects millions with lethal diseases, such as malaria, dengue fever, filariasis, encephalitis etc. Bangladesh, a land of 113 types of mosMoses1, has long been a major victim of the mosMos vectored diseases mentioned above. A wide variety of mosMos deterring devices are in practice, ranging from the most popular d-allethrin based coils, DEET (N, N'-diethyl- n-toluamide) based sprays to electric mats and vaporizers. However, the fact that these devices are far from optimal triggers the need for an efficacious and potent solution to this ever-persisting torment. ActiGreen Bangladesh (AGB), a private limited company, enters the scene by introducing a pioneering spray – Mos-Quit, prepared from NEEM, a divine tree. Traditionally found chemical based killers and repellents are poisons that only kill, or ward off mosMoses for a meager period. In addition, they have been evidenced to have adverse effects on human health. Mos-Quit contains natural compounds that block the internal functioning of hormones in the body of mosMoses. MosMoses, by inhaling Mos-Quit forget to bite, to eat, to mate, or they stop laying eggs. Even if eggs are produced, they do not hatch, or the larvae do not molt. This in turn breaks their life cycle. The population...

Many families in Washington County who have chosen to buy homes are unprepared for the level of care such lawns require, and end up with small gardens near the house, weeds and overgrown yards further away. Lastly, white-collar families will be targeted instead of blue collar families as the blue collar families are more likely to do the lawn themselves. Sunshine Lawn Care will start out as a partnership, owned jointly and equally by Casey and Nicholas Pate. For the last five years, Nicholas has worked as head landscaper at a local landscaping company. With this experience...

...Evaluation of the Ecological Restoration Projects at The University of California, Santa Barbara’s Lagoon Authors: Matthew Edmiston Cat Bradley Chris Anderson Abstract: The University of California, Santa Barbara’s lagoon has undergone several ecological restoration projects over the past two decades. Some efforts have proven to be beneficial, while others still need improvement. This paper addresses and evaluates five different locations around the lagoon, the various restoration projects at the sites, and what more could be done at each habitat in order to assess the ecological restoration efforts in the UCSB Campus Lagoon area. The sites addressed are the San Nicolas degraded wetlands, Campus Point, the coastal sage scrub, Manzanita Village and the bioswales. Overall, each of the sites have finished going through extensive restoration, with techniques such as solarization and re-introduction of native species. Most of the ecosystems are now returned to their pre-disturbed state, but continued efforts are needed to preserve the locations. 1.0 Introduction: The term “ecological restoration” is generally defined as “the return of an ecosystem to a close approximation of its condition prior to disturbance” (NRC Report, 1992). Although this term is often oversimplified, it includes a complex web of cultural, social and political aspects as well as environmental aspects. Due to its complexity, and in many cases, the many competing jurisdictions involved, it is often...

...0830300038) A Final Year Project thesis (STAT 4121; 3 Credits) submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Statistics at BNU-HKBU UNITED INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE December, 2011 DECLARATION I hereby declare that all the work done in this Project is of my independent effort. I also certify that I have never submitted the idea and product of this Project for academic or employment credits. XIAO Jiali, Jenny (0830300038) Date: ii Application of Bootstrap method in spectrometric data analysis XIAO Jiali, Jenny Science and Technology Division Abstract In this project the bootstrap methodology for spectrometric data is considered. The bootstrap can also compare two populations, without the normality condition and without the restriction to comparison of means. The most important new idea is that bootstrap resampling must mimic the separate samples design that produced the original data. Bootstrap in mean, bootstrap in median, and bootstrap in confidence interval are three kinds of effective way to handle mass spectrometric data. Then,we need to reduce dimension based on bootstrap method. It may allow the data to be more easily visualized. Afterwards, using results obtained by bootstrap, we use data mining method to predict a patient has ovarian cancer or not. Decision tree induction and neural network are usual way to classify it. Keywords: Bootstrap, data mining, classification tree, decision tree induction, neural network...

...EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The growing awareness of the nutritive value of mushroom as well as the adoption of more mushroom dishes in restaurant menus has greatly increased the demand of fresh mushrooms. However, some places within the city lack access to this nutrition. In lieu to this, this business proposal has been made. Moreover the proposal aims to supply fresh, nutritious mushrooms to an area which was underprivileged from convenience. Specifically, Mintal, Davao City. This proposal is a family venture. Thus, a capital of 25 000 pesos will be borrowed from relatives. Located at an area beside Elenita Heights Subdivision, Catalunan Grande, this project is expected to provide convenience in access to mushroom in the Mintal area. Most inputs are available around the corner; nonetheless some inputs will be purchased from reliable sources. The project will be managed by the owner with the help of a trusted expert in mushroom culture and of course, with the active involvement of the family members.
