...conditions (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2014). These changes will undoubtedly lead to an increase in the number of people seeking medical care, particularly those with chronic diseases. It is estimated that this influx in the number of patients will result in a primary care provider shortage of 20% by the year 2025 (Poghosyan, Boyd & Knutson, 2014). With many new physicians choosing to pursue specialties due to the promise of a larger salary, hospitals and clinics will need to start looking to other health care providers, such as nurse practitioners, to fill this role. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the role nurse practitioners play with regards to the Affordable Care Act by examining the history and qualifications of nurse practitioners, the current practice of nurse practitioners, the basics of the Affordable Care Act legislation, and potential nursing challenges. History of Nurse Practitioners The role of the modern day nurse practitioner emerged in the late 1960’s out of necessity for more primary care providers. ...English speaking students, and to be used in the American business community. This offered a somewhat limited perspective on communication. The author also shares her opinion that the teaching of business communication is in transition at this point. Globalization is causing major changes to the way people communicate, and this would have an obvious effect on the ways teachers convey the topic. Where as communication has in the past been geared toward the American business climate, now communication transmissions undergo translation into many different languages and many different countries, cultures and communication dynamics. This has an obvious effect on the construction of the messages conveyed today. The author talks about some of the challenges faced by business communications teachers. Also new mediums of communication have emerged. Electronic communication has taken precedence over traditional mediums, making communication instant, sometimes thoughtless. The author discusses how she has modified her teaching style to accommodate the new era of business communication. She adapted some new skill building exercises, one transitioning from past to present, and the other transitioning from the present to the future. She accomplished a simulation of the cultural climate of Hong Kong. She had several Cantonese students participate in one of these exercises, noting the adjustments that had to be made with context adaptations,...

...theory, practice and future challenges 754 John Storey and Caroline Emberson The Open University Business School, Milton Keynes, UK, and Janet Godsell and Alan Harrison Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield, UK Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to critically assess current developments in the theory and practice of supply management and through such an assessment to identify barriers, possibilities and key trends. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is based on a three-year detailed study of six supply chains which encompassed 72 companies in Europe. The focal firms in each instance were sophisticated, blue-chip corporations operating on an international scale. Managers across at least four echelons of the supply chain were interviewed and the supply chains were traced and observed. Findings – The paper reveals that supply management is, at best, still emergent in terms of both theory and practice. Few practitioners were able – or even seriously aspired – to extend their reach across the supply chain in the manner prescribed in much modern theory. The paper identifies the range of key barriers and enablers to supply management and it concludes with an assessment of the main trends. Research limitations/implications – The research presents a number of challenges to existing thinking about supply strategy and supply chain management. It reveals the substantial gaps between theory and practice. A number of trends are identified which it is...

...Trends Paper BSHS/305 September 22, 2014 Elizabeth Brook Morford Trends Paper Trends in the human service community basically means changes that occur over time. These trends can include changes in climate, employment, demographics, or many other things that effect the community around them. Trends needs to be shared amongst human service professionals in order for everyone within the organization to be on the same page so that everything can flow together. The fact that the baby boomer generation is growing older is a trend that cannot be ignored because the amount of senior citizens within each community has risen over the last decade. Trends are very important because they come and go over time. Therefore if there is a trend that someone does not like then they should just work harder and remember that the trend will eventually be over and a new one will be presented. The current climate of restructuring, downsizing and retrenchment has resulted in tense work environments. Shifting locations for human services workers is normal. It is therefore imperative to discuss and document ways in which students can be assisted through the difficulties and challenges they encounter, especially about marginalization and exclusion. Whatever the future of human services innovation looks like, the key for organizations is in making the most of the forces of change in the alignment with their unique circumstances. According to Government Technology, “The political...

...Trends Paper Demographic trends reveal developments and changes in human population. More specifically, demographic trends relate to changes in a population’s age, educational attainment, and health. Business leaders, marketers, and advertisers can glean valuable insight from demographic trends. For example, a geographical location might experience a shift in migration patterns. Without understanding demographic trends for the area, businesses could make decisions on a customer segment based on conjecture. Evaluating demographic trends for the area, however, might reveal that there’s a change in the population’s average age, employment status, income, or wealth all of which would help businesses better target its customers and prospects. This can yield additional insight such as trends in a population’s socioeconomic status, life stage, and lifestyle. Socioeconomic status is determined by measuring income, education, occupation, and wealth of an individual or a family. Life stage is based on an individual’s age, family status, and relationships. Lifestyle is determined by education, activities, interests, opinions, socioeconomic status, and life stage. All of these characteristics are helpful to businesses as they are valuable predictors of consumer spending trends. Evaluating customers’ and prospects’ demographic trends, business decision-makers can identify changing needs in the marketplace and adjust to them. Demographic trends can also help organizations spot future...
