...It is the time of the year where WWE fans are looking back on the year that was while also looking ahead to the new year with hope that 2015 will be a better year than 2014 was. One of the things that is on a lot of people’s minds is whether or not The Undertaker will wrestle at WrestleMania 31. The latest bit of news about The Undertaker is that WWE wants him to work because he’s making around $1 million per year and they want to get a return on their investment, so to speak. If he does wrestle at WrestleMania 31 then his likely opponent is Bray Wyatt. At this point, nobody really knows if he’ll compete and we probably won’t find out for sure for another month or two. Next year’s WrestleMania could be the time where he decides not to come back. Maybe he can get inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015 or even better in 2016 in his home state of Texas since it’s going to be in Dallas. ...Nature vs. Nurture The stories of serial killers have intrigued all of us at times. One of these stories is Devil in the White City written by Erik Larson. It tells the story of the World’s Fair and of America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. Scientists and psychologists have wondered why people like H.H. Holmes do what they do. It brings up the question which has a bigger effect on your personality, the genetics you were born with or the environment you were brought up in. In other words, nature versus nurture. This concept was debated by well respected scientist, Matt Ridley. He looked at both ideas in a chapter he wrote called “Free Will”. Another story where nature versus nurture could be debated was in The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It’s a story about a foster child in Nazi Germany. These nonfiction texts about evil lead me to believe that a person’s environment has the biggest effect on their social behaviors and their prejudices. Behavioral tendencies are caused by a person’s environment. The Ultra Rapid Crack Propagation (URCP) phenomenon is a rare but significant phenomenon that may result in catastrophic damages. As the name suggests it results in a rapidly progressing crack in the PE tubes & pipes. The pressures (stresses) are usually distribution system pressures, below 100psi (as per CSA Z662). These cracks are initiated by a sudden or intense impact which propagates a crack in existing flaws such as a scratches, grooves or dents. The cracks are known to travel at speeds from 100-300 m/s and travel long distances. The main factors associated with URCP are susceptible material, stresses, temperature and environment. Since the stresses (pressures) required for the initiation of URCP are very small, the effect of predicting failures are very hard which leads to the URCP phenomenon resulting in more catastrophic failures. The characteristic of the crack follows a sinusoidal crack path with hackle marks that indicate the direction of the crack in the longitudinal crack path. Often times a crack may split in to more than one branch.
