Chapter 1
The bright blue moon was just starting to rise when the girl woke up in the eerie dark forest. She looked around and took in her surroundings. She notice that it was cold and dark. A breeze past by her sending her into a fit of shivers. She didn't know where or how she ended up here, but she knew that she has to get out. She got up trying to figure out which way to go when she saw a dim, but bright light, heading her way. Her head told her to stay but her heart said to hide somewhere. She nodded her head and hid behind the nearest tree next to her.

As the light got nearer, she saw a very giant figure holding the light that looked to be a lamp. "Hullo? Anyone there?", A gruff voice called out. The girl peeked out, only showing her green doe eyes. The giant figure waited to get closer to her hiding spot and knelt down on one knee. She quickly duck her head behind the trunk of the tree. The figure laughed and said," 'Ey, I'm not gunna hurt yeh. I just wanted to see who you are and what you are doing here in the Forbidden Forest."

The girl scoffed in her head knowing he wasn't going to hurt her. She just wanted to see what she was going to say. She stuck her head out and got a good look at him before she replied." Hi, I'm... I'm..", She struggled to remember what her name was. She just shook her head and said," I don't remember my name or how I got wherever this place is." The giant man just sat there, stroking his long bush beard that covered most of his face. As she waited for him to reply back, she notice he was wearing a long green tunic and shaggy brown pants made out of straw. She looked down to see what she was wearing and saw that she had on a long blue sleeveless dress that seemed torn and tattered. She sighed, knowing she couldn't remember anything before she woke up. After what seemed like a millennia the man spoke. " Well I don't know what to say about this but I will have to take you to Professor Dumbledore."

"Professor Dumbledore? Who is he?", the girl asked as she scratched her head in confusion.

The giant scratched his beard thoughtfully, " He is the headmaster of Hogwarts : The Wizarding School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That's where I'm taking you now. By the way my name is Hagrid, Rubeus Hagrid. You can call me Hagrid if you would like, Miss."
The girl nodded her head and smiled at him. She's starting to like this Hagrid person. "Ok, shall we start heading there now? Which way do we go?", she asked in a rushed voice. She had fully came from behind the tree once she knew where she was at. Hagrid looked down at her, as he was still tall, and offered her his hand. She curiously accepted it wondering what he was going to do. Hagrid stood up to his full height, pulling her slightly off the ground, and started walking in the direction she thought was the school.

She tried to walk herself as her feet were barely touching the ground, but only ended looking like a flailing, headless chicken.
Hagrid started to pick up his pace as they got near a clearing. She looked around in alarm wondering why he did so. "Ey, look Miss. There it is. Hogwarts. Ain't she a beauty?", Hagrid said.
She looked up and gasped, covering her mouth with her hand that is not being gripped by him, seeing a grand castle in plain view. She shivered as she thought how dark and frightening it was. Hagrid took it the wrong way, picking her up and placed her into his arms. She decided to take advantage and snuggled closer.
"Miss, yeh will be living here for awhile. I wonder what house you will be in...Hopefully not Slytherin. Bad, that lot is." , Hagrid mumbled.

Slytherin? What is that and what's wrong with it? Whatever that is she hope she doesn't go there.
They finally came up to the biggest doors she's ever seen. Hagrid knocked once and they opened, much to her amusement. She will have to find out how that works later. They came to another set of doors. They opened automatically. Walking down a corridor she saw pictures that we're moving and talking.
"What in the...", she gasped.
"That's enchanted. Most of the things here are enchanted." Hagrid said, answering her non-verbal question.

"Oh..well let's keep going, then!", she said excitedly. Hagrid shrugged his shoulders and kept walking until he stopped at a great grand door. The girl opened her mouth in disbelief. How many dang doors are there? She sighed and looked at Hagrid.

Hagrid laughed and shook his head at her disappointment," This is where Dumbledore is at, right through these doors. Are you ready?
She grinned as big as she could, holding onto his arm tightly to keep herself from jumping.

Hagrid smiled softly at her and turned his attention to the doors. 'Here goes nothing', she thought as he pushed open the doors with a grunt. She couldn't wait to see what was behind these doors!

Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland

...Conflict Research Perspectives Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland Rhett S. Close HUMN 305, Global Issues Professor Bakkum March 10, 2015 Conflict Research Perspectives Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland “The Troubles” as commonly known to the people of Ireland is the conflict that has been raging between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland since the 1960’s. This conflict has been defined as a religious one between the Republic of Ireland (Catholic) and Northern Ireland (Protestant). The more recognized believe that it is in reference to the political issue of separating from Britain such as the Republic did or staying “loyal to the crown” as Northern Ireland has. The final point is the hostile actions that both sides have committed in defense of their positions (Hammer, 2009). Both sides make arguments to why the other has been the source of the problem. In the following paragraphs, we will look at each side’s arguments and present the facts as they are known. Republic of Ireland The Republic of Ireland has a vivid memory of the ethnic and religious persecution they endured by their British rulers. There has been a long history of violence and discrimination based on the religious choices and their ethnic background. This is a modern example of religious and ethnic bigotry in a first world country. Citizens were afraid to practice their religion or to be affiliated with their home land based on the violence that may occur. A primary...

Scholarship Essay

...Scholarship Essay Q&A 1) List 3-5 extra-curricular activities and tell why they are important to you. Having the experience of playing varsity sports has brought a new light on how I perceived teamwork. What does it mean to be a part of a team? Teamwork is such a vital part of our everyday lives. Without teamwork, on is not prepared to handle situations where cooperation is needed to complete a task. Teamwork and cooperation are two significant qualities that many need to have in their lives to face the daily troubles of the “real world.” Varsity tennis and basketball are two experiences that have taught me to work with others in such a way that is useful and time-efficient. Throughout high school, I have been given several opportunities to go and reach out to those in my surrounding community. Mira Mesa High School has a program called the Outreach Dinner that occurs every year right around Thanksgiving assisting and providing the homeless and less fortunate people of San Diego County with free meals, dessert, and drinks. For two consecutive years, I have participated in this event and held significant positions each time. During my first year joining the Outreach Dinner, I was the head of the waiters/waitresses and their assistants who helped set up, serve the food and drinks to homeless, and clean up the tables and disposable plates. In addition to that, we were encouraged to speak with the guests and provide hospitality. In the second year, I volunteered...

Canning as a Solution

...involving students in schools nationwide. We need to find an explanation for this rise in disciplinary problems, in order to find the ideal solution for the problem. By my knowledge, we can clearly relate the rise in disciplinary problems with the withdrawal of caning, or any sort of physically inflicted pain, as a punishment for students. What I mean is, when students don’t get punished, they will get into more trouble in the future. Based on this, I fully agree that caning is an effective way to punish students. This is where caning can be part of the solution. Please, let me explain. Students get into trouble because it is their nature to make lots of mistakes and learn through them. Yes, they learn new and important things in life through mistakes. It is okay to make one or two mistakes once in a while, but when a student gets into trouble, or keeps repeating the same mistakes one too many times, this indicates a problem. Maybe the student does not realize that he is causing trouble, or hurting other people. For all we know he might even be enjoying causing trouble. If this student is not punished, he is certain to do more harm again, and this is not good for everybody. As a solution, caning will make the student realize that what he is doing is wrong, and that he should never make this mistake again. As you can see, caning becomes part of the long-term solution to shape a student’s...

Shakespear Act1 Scene 3 Analysis

...Reread Act 1 Scene 3. How does Shakespeare make this such a dramatic and significant moment in the play? Support your answer by close reference to Shakespeare’s writing At the start of Act 1 Scene 3, we understand that Don John is a very sad, discontent and evil man. From previous scenes, we have already learnt that Don John is not a man of many words. In this scene, Shakespeare further develops Don John as a character allowing us to learn more about him and we learn that Don John will wreak havoc on Don Pedro and Claudio making this a dramatic scene. Also, important themes are introduces in this scene making it significant. In the scene, the melancholy of Don John is noted by Conrad who says, "why are you thus out of measure sad?". Sadness, a recurring theme in the book is represented by Don John. This makes this scene significant as a important theme sadness is introduced. Further into the scene, we learn that there is no real motive for the evil Don John commits and is due to his bad nature something he willingly admits, “though I cannot be said to be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied but I am a plain-dealing villain” Yet, Don John being Don Pedro’s bastard brother serves as a reason for his evil nature as he has a much lower social status then his brother and has no chance of rising in society due to his “bastard” status. Although Don John has just became reconciled with Don Pedro it is obvious that he does not acknowledge it at all. Even after Conrad’s...

In the first paragraph he is talking about that only a few people have actually heard gun shots since World War II, and that there has not been a gun culture in United Kingdom, so it’s legal to have a gun by your side. It’s not like in f.eks. Denmark, were we know it’s illegal to have a gun. They don’t know how to live without any gun, to protect them. We are also told that he has seen enough guns for a lifetime, he would die happy if we didn't have to see another one ever again. The first gunfire is known as 'The troubles'. He is also telling us that gunfire sounds, sounds nothing like what you hear in movies, and he is also referring that nothing in real life can be compared to movies because he has experienced it and you are more affected by it if it happens in real life. “But real gunfire sounds...

Leaving Belfast

...LEAVING BELFAST Leaving Belfast is a poem by Andrew Motion (1952 - …) an English poet, novelist and biographer. The story seems to be situated in Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland, which had been the scene of various episodes of sectarian conflict between its Roman Catholic and Protestant populations at that time. These opposing groups in this conflict are now often termed republican and loyalist respectively, although they are also referred to as 'nationalist' and 'unionist'. The most recent example of this conflict was known as the Troubles, a civil conflict that raged from around 1969 to the late 1990s, with rival paramilitary groups formed on both sides. Bombing, assassination and street violence formed a backdrop to life throughout the Troubles. Much of the population escaped from Belfast during this time because the situation became insufferable, one of them was Andrew Motion, who, for this time and in the shape of a poem, tries to show us the feelings that came to him when he leaved his city. We can assume this fact of Andrew Motion going or escaping from a place called Belfast looking at the title of the poem, which is called “Leaving Belfast”. The word leaving is a gerund which means to go out of or away from and implies some kind of movement. Belfast as I have said is the capital city of Northern Ireland in which Andrew Motion lived. Starting to analyze the poem I have to say that the poem is composed by 7 stanzas, each of them formed by 4 lines. ...

Achieving Success

...off. It`s not about money, wealth and material things that we could get in this world, it is the sense of fulfillment when you know you`ve done your best and you`ve felt the feeling that you deserve. Before we go any further, we need to understand that we are where we are today because of the decisions we’ve made—decisions about what to focus on, decisions about where to place our priorities, decisions about what things mean and decisions about what to do. Recently, we had our Open Book competition for our English subject. Since I was the president of the class, it was really hard for me to control and convince all of my classmates to help and strive hard to win the competition. There are times when I felt like giving up because of the troubles that we encountered but I had to be strong enough for my class because if I`m going to be weak, then the whole class will not participate anymore. I always thought that being determined and strong for them is the best thing that I could give back for the trust that they have given me as their Governor. And so, I did my part. I explained to them how I feel and how we should work on together to achieve success. After 2 weeks of preparing for the said event, here comes the most awaited moment for all of us, the actual presentation. Few minutes before, we all prayed together and ask the guidance of our Heavenly Father. Then lights camera, action! I`m glad all of us did an awesome job. It was like the moment was really meant for our class....

I never thought that the years would go by so quickly, but as fast as it was I still learned a lot from the experiences I had. There were times when I didn’t think I’d make anything of myself, and times when I felt like I could do anything. As much as I hated some of the things I went through in high school, I’m glad they happened because without them I wouldn’t me who I am right now. I always wanted to be someone who could excel at everything. I was always jealous of people like that; I admired them for their perseverance.
