Abstract

Explosive tendonitis is an injury that occurs when a bone is fractured and heals over a tendon, pinching the tendon causing an explosive pain every time the tendon is used. This research was aimed at identifying the prevention and treatment of the injury. Two periodical articles, one book, one encyclopedia, and one internet site were used to research this topic. The injury is rare, but may occur in any athlete where a stress fracture can occur near a tendon.

Introduction

Stress fractures can occur in most athletics and several different bones. This injury can be caused by a blow to the bone by a significant force, but mostly occurs to a bone that is repeatidly struck or overused. According to Stevensonburg (2006) "Sixty-eight percent of all stress fracture occur in runners and sprinters and sports that require a high volume of either activity" (p. 37). Stevensonburg (2006) also stated "Stress fractures can be prevented by a steady and easy increase in the stated activities so that bones can grow to meet the high demand that the athlete is trying to reach. In order for the injury to heal, activity on that particular bone must be limited to little or none. Explosive tendonitis occurs when the tendon is pressed into the bone where the tendon may become cought in the crack enough so that it becomes pinched into the bone.

Method

Several pieces of literature were researched to describe this injury, written in the last five years by medicle doctors and certified athletic trainers.

Results

A study was written and published by Dr. Arkenstandon addressed the issue of the tendon becoming pinched in the healed bone.

Based on recent research it has been found that if an tendon becomes pressed into the bone from one to two hours or an added time of two hours within a four to five our period per day then the bone with heal over the tendon (Arkenstandon, 2005, p. 43).

It has been found that if the muscle and tendon are streched regularly every twenty to thirty five minutes that this injury will not occur. It is also prevented by not obtaining a stress fracture in the first place which as mentioned before is preventable by easing into a work volume. This injury is treated by sergury, removing the tendon from the bone, allowing both to heal properly. If the tendon is fully ripped out of the bone it may cause further damage to the tendon and possibly cause perminent damage to the bone. Boblidaner (2009), wrote in his book:

The extraction of the tendon from the bone is the only safe treatment for the injury and in fact is also the treatment for the injury if the tendon is self removed in which case surgery must be done to repair the damaged bone (p.237)

This injury is very painful and can happen to anyone competing or practicing in any sport. However, it is very easy to prevent as long as one takes certain percausions.

In his article Stertinberndle (2009) states that if one wears certain protective gear in some sports and takes on more training volume in acceptable loads that this may be prevented, and if a stress fracture does occur then the athletes should make sure to keep from pressing directly against the wound (Explosive Tendonitis Injury ,para. 3). Stertindberndle (2009) also states that a safe increase in training volume, especially for repetitive sports such as track and cross country, is a five percent increase from one week to the next, but varies in sports such as basketball where the training varies from one moment to the next (Explosive Tendonitis Injury, para. 40

Conclusion

Explosive tendonitis is a painful injury duriving from the injury known as a stress fracture. It is easily preventable, but if does occur can be difficult to treat.

..."If at first you don't succeed try, try and try again." Robert the Bruce, king of Scotland, is meant to have told his troops this shortly before walloping the English at Bannockburn in 1314. The idiom, said to have been inspired by a humble spider stoically weaving his web as Bruce hid from his English pursuers in a cave, is particularly appropriate too for the modern residents of Annan, ancestral home of the Bruce lineage, who have erected a statue of the king – after a 130-year delay. When the town hall was constructed on Annan's high street in the 19th century, a plinth was placed above the entrance for a planned statue of Bruce, Lord of Annandale. But financial problems meant it was never commissioned. Two years ago a local committee began fundraising and a £2m bronze likeness has been put in place. A dedication service will be staged on Friday. Some £40,000 was raised to help complete the 250kg statue. Committee secretary Roderick McCallum said he was pleased the town had recognised the role of the king. "The Bruces became Lords of Annandale having been gifted this land by a previous king – basically, I think, to help to pacify the natives," he said. Their first castle was also built in Annan, near to where the town hall stands. Mr McCallum added that erecting the statue would "correct the deficit" from more than a century ago. The statue was produced by artist Andrew Brown, originally from Port William, who said the work presented a number of challenges...

...TRIDENT UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL NAME BUS303 Business Communication MODULE 4: Integration and Reflection Assignment: Self Reflective Course Essay INSTRUCTOR: This Business Communication course has helped me overcome my fear of entering the real world and preparing for my military retirement. Being in the service for all of these years will place a small amount of fear regarding entering the civilian workforce because of the leadership style you are taught in the military. However, with the tools I have gained from this class; I feel that my transition from military life to the civilian sector will be easier than I thought. We as military personnel have learned how to wear a uniform properly and how to greet personnel with respect but we have not been taught how to properly prepare for retirement. When asked to write a resume in this course, I felt this assignment would be a challenge because the first thing I thought about was “the future”. Asking myself what exactly does my own future have in store for me and how do I prepare. Immediately, I took this assignment serious; gathering my thoughts to put into my resume because what if there was no tomorrow for me in the U.S. Navy; what if I had to get out today “what would I do”. I really enjoyed this assignment along with the cover letter because it challenged me to “think, what if” and “how do I prepare”, so this really hit home for me. “The Tips for Writing Resumes” was a great source to refer to for this...

...Garbage collection Garbage collection is a process of releasing the memory used by the objects, which are no longer referenced. This is done in different ways and different manners in various platforms and languages. We will see how garbage collection is being done in .NET. The .Net Framework provides a new mechanism for releasing unreferenced objects from the memory (that is we no longer needed that objects in the program) ,this process is called Garbage Collection (GC). When a program creates an Object, the Object takes up the memory. Later when the program has no more references to that Object, the Object's memory becomes unreachable, but it is not immediately freed. The Garbage Collection checks to see if there are any Objects in the heap that are no longer being used by the application. If such Objects exist, then the memory used by these Objects can be reclaimed. So these unreferenced Objects should be removed from memory , then the other new Objects you create can find a place in the Heap. The reclaimed Objects have to be Finalized later. Finalization allows a resource to clean up after itself when it is being collected. This releasing of unreferenced Objects is happening automatically in .Net languages by the Garbage Collector (GC). The programming languages like C++, programmers are responsible for allocating memory for Objects they created in the application and reclaiming the memory when that Object is no longer needed for the program. In .Net languages there is...

In the lecture we talked about how people develop skills over time and because of this, how the way we lead them needs to change. The questions you will answer now will demonstrate that you understand the principles of Situational Leadership. Test questions 1. In the video, Constance was first taught how to cross the street using a high task (S1) leadership style. This style was used because: a. The teacher’s priority was for Constance to learn to cross the street safely rather than increase her motivation, b. The teacher’s priority was to increase Constance’s motivation to cross the street on her own rather than help her learn how to cross the street safely, c. The teacher’s priority was for Constance to learn to cross the street and to increase her motivation at the same time, d. The teacher’s was letting Constance cross the street independently. a In this case a is the correct response. At this stage it is clear that Constance doesn’t know how to cross the street safely and so until she learns that, the focus must be on learning the task. This is also why c incorrect. If Constance knew how to cross the street but was reluctant to do so then b would be correct, and if she was both competent at the task and motivated then d would be right. 2. The second time...

...'Terror struck into the hearts of the enemies is not only a means, it is the end itself,' Brigadier S K Malik writes in Quranic Concept of War, a virtual textbook for the Pakistani military doctrine. The desecration of an Indian soldier's body by Pakistanis should come as no surprise. Have we forgotten what the Pakistanis did to Captain Saurabh Kalia in Kargil [ Images ] in 1999? Pakistan has a history of desecration of dead Indian soldiers even during the 1965 war. Barbaric behaviour by the Pakistanis is neither new nor a planned strategy, it is their habit! But that still leaves open the question: Why now? It is this that opens up intriguing possibilities. By all accounts relations between India [ Images ] and Pakistan were on the upswing, thanks to the perpetual sway of the 'peace at any (mostly our) cost' lobby's all pervasive presence and influence and the ruling dispensation that had its eyes set firmly on consolidating its vote bank before the 2014 general election. It is quite likely that the Pakistan army [ Images ] at this point in time saw no benefit in escalation of tensions on the Indian border when it is readying to reclaim its 'strategic depth' in Afghanistan post the US withdrawal. First, a few facts about the area of the recent clashes. The Nangi Tekdi area was captured from Pakistan in the 1971 war and has been a thorn for them ever since. ...The Python Papers Monograph 2:17 Proceedings of PyCon Asia-Pacific 2010 Experiences in Building Python Automation Framework for Verification and Data Collections Juki Wirawan Tantra jw.tantra@gmail.com Abstract This paper describes our experiences in building a Python automation framework. Specifically, the automation framework is used to support verification and data collection scripts. The scripts control various test equipments in addition to the device under test (DUT) to characterize a specific performance with a specific configuration or to evaluate the correctness of the behaviour of the DUT. The specific focus on this paper is on documenting our experiences in building an automation framework using Python: on the purposes, goals and the benefits, rather than on a tutorial of how to build such a framework. 1. Introduction I work in a growing IC design company that focuses on wireless solutions. The project described in this paper was developed when we were developing the fifth generation of our product. We were facing huge challenges for this project: our product's feature sets have grown so much that manual verification of the features require more than 2 months (and this would involve most of the engineering team doing manual tests). Recent economic situation prohibited any further investment, both for manpowers and tools. However, the project needs to be completed on time, or we would risked losing a significant potential business...

...Economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. The term economics comes from the Ancient Greek οἰκονομία (oikonomia, "management of a household, administration") from οἶκος (oikos, "house") + νόμος (nomos, "custom" or "law"), hence "rules of the house(hold)".[1] Political economy was the earlier name for the subject, but economists in the late 19th century suggested "economics" as a shorter term for "economic science" that also avoided a narrow political-interest connotation and as similar in form to "mathematics", "ethics", and so forth.[2] A focus of the subject is how economic agents behave or interact and how economies work. Consistent with this, a primary textbook distinction is between microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics examines the behavior of basic elements in the economy, including individual agents (such as households and firms or as buyers and sellers) and markets, and their interactions. Macroeconomics analyzes the entire economy and issues affecting it, including unemployment, inflation, economic growth, and monetary and fiscal policy. Other broad distinctions include those between positive economics (describing "what is") and normative economics (advocating "what ought to be"); between economic theory and applied economics; between rational and behavioral economics; and between mainstream economics (more "orthodox" and dealing with the "rationality-individualism-equilibrium nexus")...

It talks about deciding whether to try again, and about timing. It also gives some information that may help you and your partner before and during another pregnancy. Even if you didn’t plan the last pregnancy, the miscarriage may have made you realise that’s what you want • It seems the best way to get over the ‘empty’ feeling that is common after miscarriage • You feel confident that the next pregnancy will go well • It’s important to your partner • You feel it’s your last chance – if you are an older mother, for example. Shame Is Worth a Try

...Shame Is Worth a Try The argumentative Shame Is Worth a Try written by Dan M. Kahan is his point of view about shaming the public rather than sending useless harmful persons to jail. This article explains to readers about different shaming punishments and the way you perform these punishments. Also, Kahan discusses the courts choices and the way they see punishment by shaming. Kahan does a good job explaining and arguing the reasons behind why shaming is both good and bad. He explains the point of views from both liberal and conservative reformers. None the less the tone he uses, the diction he presents, and the example choices keep us wanting to know more. Kahan argues in favor of the use of shame as a punishment that is, “an effective, cheap, and humane alternative to imprisonment.” He tells us to think about the times when we were punished as children, and who punished us: teachers, parents or other authority figures. What kinds of bad behavior were we punished for? What type of punishment worked best to deter you from changing your ways? You may not remember everything from an incident but do you recall being ashamed and bashed in front of other people? The tone he chooses to get the point across is both sarcastic/funny and meaningful. He oddly adds phrases here and there to further the argument by using a stern tone to explain his seriousness. His quotes, that include different shaming requirements by law, help us better understand the circumstances in which shaming...
