II- Read the following passage and choose the best answer:
Mercury is the smallest member of the sun's family. It is only 3.100 miles across. It is also the sun's swiftest planet. Its yearly journey round the sun is only 85 days.
Mercury always keeps one side towards the sun. On this side it is always day, on the other side always night. We only see the lighted side.
Mercury appears to us like a yellowish orange star. The nearest planet to the sun, it is always seen near the sun, either just before sunrise or soon after sunset. People sometimes call mercury the morning star or evening star.
Mercury is half the size of the earth. Because it is much lighter, it has much less gravity. If you can visit Mercury in a spaceship, you will find it a strange world. Its low gravity makes you feel very light. If your weight on earth is 100 pounds, your weight on Mercury is only 27 pounds.
Looking at the sun from Mercury, you can see that it's much more brilliant than it is seen from the earth. And the yellow centre of the sun appears three times bigger from Mercury.
On its lighted side, Mercury's temperature is about 300 degrees centigrate. But the dark side is extremely cold, but 150 degrees below zero so mercury is probably the coldest as well as the hottest of the planets.

47. We cannot see the dark side of Mercury because ....... A. it moves very fast. B. it always appears just before sunrise or soon after sunset. C. it always keeps one side towards the sun. D. it is too far for us to see.

49. Why do we weigh much on the earth than on Mercury? - Because ....... A. Mercury is nearer to the sun. B. Mercury has got less gravity than the earth. C. Mercury is much hotter. D. none are correct.
50. Why does the sun look bigger when it is seen from Mercury? - Because ....... A. Mercury is the smallest planet of the sun. B. Mercury is nearer to the sun. C. Mercury is a light planet. D. It only takes Mercury 88 days to move round the sun.

...Hong Kong Community College CC3305 Engineering Management Assignment One Expected Learning Outcomes: • • • Understand the basic principles and techniques involved in management of people and engineering activities in the process of product design as well as the production of goods and services. Appraise and analyze issues relating to engineering management and professional ethics. Apply basic management skills in their professional career. Case Study: No single cause for cable car’s litany of faults The latest suspension of Lantau’s cable car service on Wednesday came after a fourth technical fault in two months, but according to the operator the faults were all in different parts of the system. After hundreds were trapped in cable car gondolas for around 90 minutes due to a fault, preliminary checks have shown a 42 cm bearing on the haul rope pulley wheel at the Airport Island Angle Station to be slightly worn. “We found no safety problem with the system. It is the reliability of service that is in question,” said Frank Chan-fan, Ngong Ping 360’s Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, adding that the system’s six other identical bearings would be checked during a 10day suspension. He said the cold weather was unlikely to have caused the fault, since the cable car should be capable of withstanding Hong Kong’s humidity and temperatures. Government-appointed experts reviewing the cable car’s design after one fell to the ground in 2007 found it complied with international...

...In the film of Spiderman, Peter impressed me the most. The major reason is that he used his special power to turn down many crimes in the city without asking any rewards, well-known in the city, or even sacrifice himself. I believe everyone will be impressed by his spirit. Once he found he had super power, he tried making use of it. Then when his uncle was murdered in a robbery, he made his mine that he would stop all illegal activities as he can. Even the cost wasn’t small-------spending his own leisure time, risking his life, cannot earn money by doing part-time or achieve his dream. Despite the cost was huge, he had no any reward. Nevertheless, he was suspected by the public as one of the criminals. However, he didn’t change his decision, especially after his uncle’s dead, his hateful towards crimes even grew stronger. These are the reasons why I think he was the most respectable charter in this film. There were two charters who were important to Peter. They are Mary J and his Uncle. I’ll begin with Mary. I believe Peter’s love was a kind of sad. Both of them love each other, but they can’t be together. As Peter chose to be a hero for saving people who are in danger, he cannot with Mary for long time. She then left him along. Even Mary finally changed her mind; Peter cannot accept her love because of his destiny. Moreover, he often brought danger to his friends and family when he countered with different enemies----both Mary and his grandma has suffered this. To protect...

...already been done on the cross cultural differences in the workplace (eg. Hofstede 1980, Pudelko and Harzing, 2008). However organizations only began to take initiative to bridge this difference in the form of pre-departure training a few of decades ago. Naturally researchers began to study the actual effectiveness of pre-departure and cross cultural training from various perspectives, some of which will be discussed below. Tung (1987) was perhaps one of the earliest researchers to study the importance of pre-departure training. The paper begins by describing a typical situation of Mr. X who migrates to Japan from the US but is unable to perform due to cultural issues faced by his family. Although hypothetical, this example could be true for any individual who moves to another nation along with his family and has not been provided with adequate training. Tung conducted a survey among 80 US multinational firms and found that the top most reason for expatriate failure was “inability of the manager’s spouse to adjust to a different physical or cultural environment” (Tung, 1987). This alarming result clearly indicates that pre departure training is essential not only for the employee, but for his family as well. Lau (2007) wrote her thesis that focused specifically on the impact of pre-departure training for employees migrating to China. The main factors to consider during training for China are culture, guanxi and language (Lau, 2007). The author also acknowledged the fact that only handful...

Eastern Communism

...Brett Hulliberger Professor Daniel Huisman HS215 February 6, 2016 Eastern Communist Revolution Immediately following the revolutionary period of World War I, leaders and governments made very strong arguments for the formation of a Communist rule. This gave all the powers of unity, finance, power over citizens and their skills, and laws out of the hands of society and into that of the countries governing authorities. As a selfish ruler, who would not want that? This keeps all the decision making, punishment, and, in general, the power in your hands. A prime example of this mentality is from Li Shaoqi, “Comrades, What is the most fundamental and common duty of us Communist Party Members? As everybody knows, it is to establish Communism, to transform the present world into a Communist world.” (24.4 “How to Be a Good Communist” (1939)). Just out of a war torn repressive state the government has its stride back, and can continue to climb from a new beginning. The people, however, suffer under a communist rule. Total control of their lives, families, homesteads, and career paths. Li Shaoqi was truly a communism believer and did not hold the individual accomplishments or successes of man accountable; only “man” and a unity and how they can be of service to the society as a whole, being an integral part of a whole – and what really matters is the outcome of the “whole” not the individual contribution. The last sentence of his indoctrination tract sums up his way of...

Suu Tam
