...TURKISH AIRLINE INDUSTRY OVERVIEW June 12, 2011 · by AC · in Aviation. · Today, I would like to provide brief information regarding the marketing and survival strategies of the airline industry, both locally and internationally. I should probably stress that the airline industry is too global to be considered as only domestically so a marketing analysis ignoring the international market situations would be off balance and superficial. The airline industry in Turkey was first constructed as a monopolistic market. The major and the only company was the government-owned THY. This situation has changed within the EU standardization and privatization process. After the deregulation, many carriers came into the airline industry to compete against the market leader with the goal of taking advantage of the areas where THY was seriously lacking. Government Regulation used to be the main barrier to entry in the airline industry. However, due to the oil shock, the growing public dissatisfaction and the regular shifts in political opinions, the decision to deregulate was taken. The major barrier to entry was broken, leading to a price war with the entry of many low-price and no-frills airlines. Every carrier could enter and prices were not regulated. The cost of customer switching was very low. Thus THY had to develop “frequent flyer programmers” to retain customers by issuing free tickets and upgrades on basis of number of miles flown, raising the level of offered services and lowering...

It was also acclaimed as the best European company in the last four years consecutively at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, being the third most profitable carrier after Ryanair and Easyjet. The expansion continues: with the project of the third Istanbul’s international airport and the announcements of new destinations to countries like Mexico, Philippines and South Sudan. (See Exhibit 2) How a small Turkish state-owned company became so huge and successful? What are the main challenges it had to face and how did it tackle them? What are the main actual and future issues for a company that is expanding quickly and widely? We will try to give an answer to these questions in the paper: starting from an essential and short presentation of Turkish Airlines historical evolution, making a synthetic overview of its main strategies and analyzing the past and the future challenges in developing countries such as India. Turkish Airline historical steps towards internationalization...

In my regression model, I used some of them such as; exchange rate, interest rate, consumer price index, wholesale price index and gold prices. These are my independent variables whereas time deposit is my dependent variable. I also adjusted the US Dollar/ Turkish Lira exchange rate because Turkey started using The New Turkish Lira by dropping 6 zeros from the currency Turkish Lira on 01.01.2005. The reference of all variables is http://evds.tcmb.gov.tr/ Meanings of the variables as follows; Time Deposit( TD): Annually equivalent of monthly time deposits traded in banks. ...Kadir Has University History of Turkish Republic 4/9/2015 Shah Basit Hussain Qureshi 1- In your view, what were the reasons for the Ottoman Empire’s demise? How did competing internal and external factors play into the weakening of the empire? There were few vital reasons for the downfall of Ottoman Empire’s, linked with some of internal and external factors which played a important role to weaken the Ottoman’s empire. I will take this opportunity to write on this significant historical downfall factors of Ottomans Empire and I will write try to accomplish those major points from which this downfall led to Ottoman Empire. It was the second Egyptian crisis which manifested tensions in the Middle East. The elementary problems of the empire, caused by rising pressure between the different nationalities and communities, which the central government was not capable to get to the bottom of or control. Nevertheless for about 15 years they did not express to large-scale interference on the part of the enormous powers of Europe. The most aggressive internal conflict of these years was fought in the Lebanon. The tough man of the region was the Emir Bashir II, who belonged to the miniature religious group of the people of Druzes 3, but he was converted to Christianity and he ruled the Lebanon from his stronghold in the Shuf Mountains for almost 50 years. He had associated his providence strongly to the Egyptian professional forces, and when the concluding...

When Kemal first became president of Turkey, he faced controversy from his own people for every decision he made. Kemal realized that he needed to make his people happy and he did so through the use of state wide reforms. He established state owned factories and industries around the country, which were made possible by foreign loans. The newly created factories and industries created jobs for the people of Turkey. Under his rule, free education was introduced and was required by law for children. During the Ottoman Empire, only the most privileged received education. ...at between Europe and Asia, with 10.3 million people. According to Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Turkey’s long-term economic prospects are bright. Economy of Turkey grew an average of 6.0% in 2002-2007, and that average is one of the highest sustained growths in the world. On the other hand, Turkey grew only 1.1% in 2008, and -4.7% in 2009 because of the global economic circumstances. However, strong baking system, stable growth, privatizations, and telecommunications sectors helped Turkish economy to raise foreign investment. Turkish economy grew 9% in 2010, and 7.5% in 2011. Turkey and European Union signed an agreement for free movements of goods in 1996, and in October 2005, European Union opened accession negotiations with Turkey. However, negotiations are not going well, so far, because there are 33 acquis, which is total body of EU law, and Turkey needs to implement. 13 of them have been opened, but 18 chapters of them are blocked, because of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot on Cyprus Island (Background Not: Turkey, 2012). ...Taking Away the Nation’s Existence (Ahiska-Meskhetian Turks) Ahiska Turks are Meskhetians from Southwestern Georgia. The village they lived in was called Ahiska. In 1944, Ahiskans were deported to different places by Joseph Stalin. Stalin took away the Ahiskan nation’s existence by sending, “Soviet troops [who] descended on Ahiska, Georgia along the border with Turkey on Nov. 14, 1944” as Khalil Chakhalidze remembers (Doug Page). Even though the Ahiskans were transported to many different places before they came to America, many settled in Dayton, Ohio. In my research Problem/Solution Paper, I will educate my reader about the refugee-status, the challenges Ahiskans had in finding a new home, while at the same time parents and their elders desire to move back to their original homeland, which was taken from them, perhaps never to be seen again. The primary focus of my paper will be on a solution, pertaining to the reasons the nation’s existence has been taken from Ahiska (Meskhetian) Turks. This created a major relocation problem, because of much discrimination against them. Opponents, people who come out against immigrants think that they are a drag on the economy, the community, etc. “But it’s been proven time and again that they help the economy. More people working means more jobs and a stronger economy. Which means more jobs for everybody,” said City Commissioner Matt Joseph (Page). Land Originally, Ahiska Turks were Meskhetians from Southwestern Georgia, formally...

...Friday, November 26, 2010 Impediments of Turkey’s Accession into the European Union Turkey is a country located on the artificial border between Southeastern Europe and Southwest Asia that is currently under the application process to join the European Union. Turkey has been under review by the EU and has faced huge roadblocks due to social, cultural, geographic, religious, and economic factors. These issues can be pinpointed by the Armenian genocide by the Turkish people, the ongoing battle for the island of Cyprus, Turkey’s Islamic heritage, the location of Turkey in the European continent, low literacy rates, and below EU average earning levels. These factors, teamed with Turkey’s history of violence makes it unlikely to gain admission to the EU in the near future, although eventual membership is not out of the question One of the most predominant factors is the Armenian Genocide, in which troops of the Ottoman Empire slaughtered an estimated one and one half million Armenians. Armenia, which neighbors Turkey to the East and has a population of 3.3 million, has proven to be a major impediment in Turkey’s application to the EU (cia.gov). The Armenian genocide began during World War I and was a systematic killing of all Armenian citizens in the Ottoman Empire (umich.edu). The first step of this genocide was disarming, and eventually killing, any Armenian member of the Ottoman army; this measure was taken to avoid any uproar within the ranks. However, most would note that...
