They have a company that is like their's which is Sylvan learning center which makes them great for competition, in which will help them with publicity. Also, The supply power is always present because they will need a school for them to tutor children. All in all I personally think this is a smart investment. 2. This will help them grow successfully because every single one of these aspects will help any kind of business. Looking at data and information at another competitors could help Passman know what he needs to do better and what he can do to gain more perspective and blow pass the competitors. Some knowledge Passman could gain from this business is what the consumer does and doesn't like. They'l need knowledge for every costumer to help keep them satisfied. 3. Glenn Clayton's business start up, Appleton Learning, is a smart business of tutoring. I think this start up is very smart. He has college students working as tutors for high school students. ...Case study 1 (M1) Mrs H. After reading Mrs H’s case study I was shocked, I was shocked to learn that she was given no choice in her personal care. Mrs H was moved to an intermediate care centre for treatment after a fall at home, after her treatment she was then admitted to the Elderly Care Assessment Unit of Birmingham Heartlands confused of what was going on around her, Mrs H wasn’t aware where she was getting transferred to or what care procedures has been put in place for her. Whenever Mrs H was in the hospital she had many falls and during one of the falls she broke her collar bone, her niece holds power of attorney for her and is also her only relative and because of this her niece should have been informed of Mrs H’s fall and her injuries that she sustained during this, but her niece received no information of any of the falls never mind her breaking her collar bone. This could make Mrs H less confident in the people around her such as doctors and nurses, she may lose trust towards them and not want to ask them to lift her in case she was to fall again, so in result of this this could lead Mrs H to urinating herself by not making it to the toilet. As Mrs H was given no choice in her personal care this would make her feel disempowered because before her fall at home she was a very independent woman whose appearance was important to her, this could result in Mrs H isolating herself. Mrs H was in no way treated and valued as an individual, during Mrs H journey home she was...

...Phoenix. As you know, I have recently begun classes online. We have discussed the possibility of you returning to school. You have voiced concerns about not being able to write reports correctly or having enough time to complete classes. I had similar concerns before enrolling. There is a mandatory orientation class that students have to take before starting classes that introduces students to the online learning environment and all of the resources associated with the online learning center. I found the Center for Writing Excellence. This resource has tutorials that teach the proper way to format and write a paper. It also has a function that assists with citations. Also, there is a function that allows you to submit your paper to a tutor and they go over your paper before you turn it in and give advice on how to improve your paper. The Library is easy to navigate and there is the Ask a Librarian function for any questions you might have. The online classes make it easier to fit your classes into your daily schedule. You don’t have a set time that you have to be in attendance every day. You can even access your classes from your phone. You can log into the discussion board any time of the day or night. If you are nervous about math classes, there is the Center for Mathematics Excellence. This resource has tutorials to help you get ready for math classes....

...Does your child need a tutor? Needing a tutor for your child or teen is not uncommon or a bad thing. Sometimes concepts are just too hard for kids to grasp or maybe your child is preparing for harder material and college prep and needs a hand. With extra help, your child can gain the confidence to get better grades, boost their self-esteem and overall achieve higher goals. Here are some signs that your child may need a tutor: * Grades are steadily or rapidly declining * Not doing homework and making excuses to why it is not getting done * Misbehavior in class * Anxiety over tests and exams * Lower self-esteem * Working hard to complete homework however still receiving sub-average grades * Easily distracted while doing homework * Prepping for SAT or other college exams * Doesn’t see the point in school if they are not doing well * Uses phrases such as “I’m stupid” or “I’m never going to do better” What to do before you hire a tutor for the first time Before hiring a tutor, like any other type of service, a bit of research should go into it. Check out their profile and credentials to ensure that they match what you are looking for. Don’t be afraid to ask questions as well, tutors are there to help and teach you or your child so it is perfectly acceptable and appropriate to spark up a quick conversation prior to engaging in any form of agreements. Also, don’t be afraid to ask to see credentials or their plan for the tutoring session. ...

...87 .,~. Peer Tutoring and the "Conversation of Mankind" by Kenneth A. Bruffee The beginnings of peer tutoring lie in practice, not in theory. A decade or so ago, faculty and administrators in a few institutions around the country became aware that, increasingly, students entering college had difficulty doing as well in academic studies as their abilities suggested they should be able to do. Some of these students were in many ways poorly prepared academically. Many more of them, however, had on paper excellent secondary preparation. The common denominator among the poorly prepared and the apparently well prepared seemed to be that, for cultural reasons we may not yet fully under stand, all these students had difficulty adapting to the traditional or "normal" conventions of the college classroom. One symptom of the difficulty was that many of these students refuSed .help when it was offered. Mainly, colleges offered ancillary programs staffed by professionals. Students avoided them in droves. Many solutions to this problem were suggested and tried, from mandated programs to sink-or-swim. One idea that seemed at the time among the most exotic and unlikely (that is, in the jargon of the Sixties, among the most "radical") turned out to work rather well. Some of us had guessed that students were refusing the help we were providing because it seemed to them merely an extension of the work, the expectations, and above all the social structure of traditional classroom learning. And...

...65 independent evaluations of school tutoring programs showed that these programs have positive effects on the academic performance and attitudes of those who receive tutoring. Tutored students outperformed control students on examinations, and they also developed positive attitudes toward the subject matter covered in the tutorial programs. The meta-analysis also showed that tutoring programs have positive effects on children who serve as tutors. Like the children they helped, the tutors gained a better understanding of and developed more positive attitudes toward the subject matter covered in the tutorial program. Participation in tutoring programs had little or no effect, however, on the self-esteem of tutors and tutees. The tutoring programs offered in many elementary and secondary schools today differ in an important way from yesterday's tutorial programs. In most modern programs, children are tutored by peers or paraprofessionals rather than by regular school teachers or professional tutors. The use of peer and paraprofessional tutors has dramatically affected the availability of tutoring programs. No longer a luxury available only to aristocratic elites, tutoring programs today are open to boys and girls in ordinary classrooms throughout the country. Hundreds of teachers and researchers already have written reports on the effects of such programs on children. Although some of the reports are based on subjective impressions and informal observations and thus are of limited...
