Power of Media

...Cable is a cable company here in central Florida. Just a few months ago the contract with Fox Networks was expiring and both TWC and Fox Networks were under negotiation to renew the contract. As the deadline came closer and closer Fox Networks started to apply pressure on TWC through the media. Fox started local radio ads warning customers that Fox Networks is in danger of not being shown on TWC, and urged customers to call TWC and tell them to keep Fox Networks on their televisions. Fox even went as far as setting up a eight hundred number that automatically forwarded to the TWC call centers. The call volume was amazing and often two hundred to three hundred people would be on hold at any given time. Billboards went up all over town, warning customers that they had other choices such as satellite if they still wanted to watch Fox stations here in central Florida. Local Fox stations ran commercials during their shows and had tickers across the bottom of the screen again urging customers to call TWC and tell them you want Fox or will cancel their service. TWC quickly rebutted with Ads of their own letting customers know that they were working with Fox Networks to resolve this issue and the reason behind this negation was because Fox wanted a significant amount more money to renew their contract and thus raising the cost of TWC’s services. TWC offered a free month of service to any customer that called in regarding this issue. Ultimately both sides were able to agree...

...(U.S. EEOC, 2014). An employer who violates Title VII may find themselves subjected to a number of legal consequences such as having to pay large sums for damages and being required to readjust the company’s policies (LaMance, n.d.). Time Warner Cable Ipo

...When television first became popular, mainstream media companies were unsure of how to profit off the new sensation. Television sets back then used antennas that received wireless airwaves to produce a picture. Consumers could theoretically watch any channel within a broadcast area for free. While this was taking place Glenn Beck, Former CEO of time INC, was working behind the scenes to implement a service that would allow for viewers to plug into a regulated receiver to have reliable access to a broad range of channels and networks. In 1978, TWC acquired 100 percent of the American Television Communications network and Glenn Beck’s idea of regulated television was put into motion. Time INC merged with Warner Cable Company in 1989, and then three years later ATC and Warner converged to formally become the Time Warner Cable, a subsidiary of Time INC. In 1996, Roadrunner high-speed Internet was introduced; next they unveiled their version of digital phone service in 2003. By 2005, the company had brand named the Triple Play, a combination of all three services. Beck’s idea finally had a face and was a fully operational communications company. Time Warner Cable has three corporate offices along the east coast in Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia and its headquarters are located in New York City. Time Warner Cable is now completely independent of the Time Warner Company, and operates nationally in 29 different states. (4) More recently, the nation’s second largest communications...

...of time that small firm can turn into a great company or corporation and become a leading monopolistic on the market. This is why I have decided to research Time Warner Cable. The history of the company is unlike any other with their cutting edge digital technology, range of home entertainment and information choices for the whole family to enjoy, and superior customer service that demonstrates customer satisfaction is the company's number one priority. In the late 1940s, entrepreneurs using simple antennas an Army surplus coaxial cable created the country's first cable television system and revolutionized the way Americans watched television (Warner Sperling, Cass, The Brothers Warner 2008). More than 70 years later, Time Warner Cable (TWC), the second largest cable provider, owns and manages advanced, well clustered cable systems throughout the United States and is ready to embark on it's next life phase of merging with Charter Communications. With the spread of the medium of television in the years following World War II, entrepreneurs in rural and valley towns figured out a way to bring distant broadcast signals to their communities using antennas and coaxial cable. During this time, visionaries emerged who would shape both the cable industry as a whole and Time Warner Cable. By the late 1960s, cable is positioned for an explosive growth. A few of the early pioneers are Bill Daniels and Monroe "Monty" Rifkin. Bill...

Time Warner Cable

...Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), formerly Warner Cable Communications and sometimes colloquially referred to as simply Time Warner, is an American cable telecommunications company that operates in 29 states and has 31 operating divisions. It is the second largest cable company in the U.S. behind only Comcast, which has agreed to acquire TWC pending regulatory approval. Its corporate headquarters are located in the Time Warner Center in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, with other corporate offices in Stamford, Connecticut; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Herndon, Virginia. Time Warner Cable serves customers in the following 29 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Originally controlled by Time Warner (the film and television production company and cable channel operator), that company spun out the cable operations in March 2009 as part of a larger restructuring. Since then, Time Warner Cable has been an entirely independent company; merely continuing to use the Time Warner brand under license from its former parent (it also previously used the "Road Runner" name for its Internet service). Time Warner Cable does own several local news and sports channels, but it no longer has any corporate affiliation...

Cbi Holdings Case

...I. Summary A CBI Holding Company was a New-York based parent company for several wholly-owned subsidiaries. These marketed an extensive line of pharmaceutical products that were purchased from drug manufactures, warehoused in storage facilities and then resold to retail pharmacies, hospitals long-term care facilities and related entities. CBI’s chairman and president Robert Castello was the seat of the CBI‘s troubles and principal implementer of fraudulent schemes. When in 1991 he sold 48 % ownership to TWC, both companies agreed that TWC would have the right to take control of CBI in case of any so-called triggering events. Shortly after this deal in following 1992 and 1993 Castello and his subordinates were intentionally misrepresenting operating results and financial conditional for the end of fiscal years mainly for enlarging Castello bonuses. To be more specific CBI understated payables at the end of fiscal 1992 and 1993 due to its large vendors by millions of dollars particularly by developing the “advances” ruse. These fraudulent activities were thoroughly concealed from TCW’ s appointees to the board and it’s management and CBI auditor- Ernst & Young that from 1990 till 1993 issued unqualified opinions. After the fraud was disclosed E&Y withdrew its 1992 and 1993 unqualified opinions. But in this case E&Y was held responsible for CBI’s bankruptcy. Even though it classified CBI’s engagement like close monitoring due to its higher than normal audit risk and identified...

Training and Development Mini Paper

...Mini Paper Name Keller Graduate School Training & Development Professor Date The paper should incorporate concepts discussed in the text, articles, case studies, and discussions, and it should describe the methods and processes being utilized to gather the information. “The training needs assessment is a critical activity for the training and development function.” (Miller & Osinski 2002) With the continuous customer service issues TWC is experiencing, understanding the opportunities for development in this area are key to the mission of the organization. Which is to give customers control in ways that are simple and easy, this all starts with customer service. In Colorado Springs, Colorado TWC operates its largest customer service call center. With over 800 employees on this site it’s a prime location to complete an employee survey and interviews. Both of these concepts for collecting data will be utilized to gather the information for the needs assessment. The paper should include information regarding the three levels of analysis (individual, task, organization) and should also discuss any difficulties experienced in getting the data. “The purpose of a training needs assessment is to identify performance requirements and the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by an agency's workforce to achieve the requirements.” (OPM, 2014) A needs assessment is comprised of three parts, an organizational analysis, task analysis and an individual analysis....
