He then began coming home in the middle of the night, sometimes bringing teenage boys with him into their garage. Gacy and Hoff divorced in March 1976. Gacy’s first murder took place on January 2, 1972. Sixteen year old Timothy McCoy was picked up by Gacy at the Chicago Greyhound station. Gacy had convinced McCoy to spend the night and promised that he would have him back at the bus station the next morning. During the night, Gacy was woken up and saw McCoy standing in his room with a knife. Gacy jumped out of bed and as McCoy surrendered, Gacy was cut on the forearm. A struggle then ensued, ending with Gacy on top of McCoy where he would stab him with the knife numerous times. Gacy then went in to the kitchen to find that McCoy was making breakfast and was only in his room to wake him up for breakfast and had mistakenly brought the knife with him. Gacy went on to bury McCoy in a crawlspace in his home and cover him with a layer of concrete (Cahill & Ewing, 1986). In an interview in 1980, Gacy stated that he had an orgasm while killing McCoy and claimed, "That's when I realized that death was the ultimate thrill” Cahill & Ewing, 1968).
