What style of leadership do I have?
During the tutor period I learned a lot about my own leadership. For instance, I found out I am pretty good at listening, but I am sometimes still too enthusiastic and then forgot to listen to the project group. Also, when I am very enthusiastic about something, and other people do not agree with me, I find this really hard. These are still some points I need to work on. But, I like that everyone participates and gives their opinions. Information and discussions are very open to everyone. I really like to base my decisions not only on my own opinion, but also on others. Therefore, I have a democratic leadership style.
What were my expectations beforehand?
Of course I did have a lot of expectations before I started tutoring a project group. This is mainly because I have had a tutor several times myself in the 1st year. Because none of these experiences were very positive, I did not really expect the tutor period to go fluently and easy. I have had several tutors who showed up 1 or 2 meetings, and we never saw back again. That is why, before I started working with and leading the project group, I made a list of this what I didn’t like about my tutors, so it was clear what I was not supposed to do. On this list were the following points:
• Being late
• Never introduced themselves
• Coming the first few meetings, and then not showing up anymore
• Coming only the first meeting, asking for a good evaluation
• Drilling their opinions upon the group

This is the list of this I really did not like about my own tutors. These points are very important. From these points I made a to do and not to do list. Just to make it clear for myself what to do again. Because my experience has been very negative, I was a bit scared to start the tutor period, especially when I found out I was supposed to do it

...Victoria Boyd Victoria Boyd Leadership Styles Leadership Styles Tamara Cotton Professional Development Seminar October 17,2012 Tamara Cotton Professional Development Seminar October 17,2012 There is no one way to execute being a good leader. There are a number of ways for one to convey being a good leader. An individual’s approach to leadership merely depends on one’s beliefs, values, ideals and preference. One way of leadership is to be charismatic which is what we call having “the gift of gab”. This approach to leadership is when an individual is able to make the audience like them. In doing so these leaders possess the ability to charm and attract their followers with their sparkling personality. Charismatic leaders take an extensive amount of time in observing their environment; these individuals can since the mood and feelings in their surroundings and act on them accordingly. Another type of leadership is stern leadership. Within a stern leadership, the individual comes off very serious and controlling, but often time this method is effective. This leadership style is all about getting the job done without sympathy for the weak hearted. Another form of leadership is one of Joined leadership, within a joined leadership these leaders are all about team work and participating with their employees. These types of leaders are all about making their employees feel like their understanding and compassionate. They have a way of being uplifting...

Comparison of Leadership Types

...The Comparison of Transformational, Servant, and Charismatic leadership by Matthew Snyder The concepts of transformational, servant and charismatic leadership all focus around their effects on those who follow them. Even though each style is different they all do contain components of the other, and they all can be very effective under the right situation and administered by the right person. At the same time each style may show similarities to one another, they are also three very different types of leadership. The first is based on transforming the followers and creating a more independent environment, the second is a lead by example style where the leader motivates the followers by being one of with the followers, and the charismatic leader focuses on inspiring the followers to be more than they are. As you read through this paper you will see how I show each style as a proven method of leading, while staying objective to show how not one is actually the "Perfect" method, because every situation requires a leader to adjust their leadership style, and what works for one person or situation necessarily won't work for another . Also, you will see that each of these methods rely on a lot of the same core values and morals within the leader themselves. Also you will be presented with thought provoking information that shows in some instances these methods are actually ineffective and could cause a situation to actually get worse, because there are certain situations...

Course Leadership Type

...Cost Leadership Type Reserve capacity and Excess Capacity The CL type of player is characterised by economics of capacity. The key point for CL type is to focus on Reserve Capacity . It could be described as “installed capacity” . For example beer producer in Europe design their facilities according to demand in summer even though the demand for beer during winter is lesser. The reserve capacity give sustainable competitive advantage because it allows to increase the production at lesser marginal cost . The reserve capacity could also be described as a condition when marginal cost is decreasing at the increasing rate . Accordingly the excess capacity is a condition when marginal cost is increasing at increasing rate. Short run cost curve: C MES Q The curve describes the short run cost function . The MES point is the Minimum Efficient Scale , the point when is the production is most cost efficient . If the firm produce on the left from that point it has Excess Capacity . If the management focuses on reserve capacity it will reach the effect of LMC = 0 (marginal cost is decreasing at the increasing rate) . The graph bellow presents SAC ( short ran average cost ) curves for multiple sites and LAC ( long run average cost curve . The graphs shows how the utilization of multiple sites can reduce the LAC at the increasing rate. All plants produce at MES point. ...

Comparing Machiavelli's Prince: Two Types Of Leadership

...In the excerpt from Prince, Machiavelli depicts two types of leaders: those who are loved and those who are feared. Machiavelli states that it is “ much safer to be feared than loved” but is that necessarily true? Many leaders throughout time that have been successful were liked by their people. When was the last time you associated being loved with war? Never but when was the last time you associated being feared with war? These obstreperous people under the feared leaders would rather not be constantly fearing what their leader might do. Eventually, they will stand up for themselves and revolt. Leaders, such as John F. Kennedy, who were generally loved are in a better situation than those leaders who are feared. John F. Kennedy — the 35th...

A Peaceful Evcuation

...One would have to say the Lieutenant Colonel Yaron leadership style is a more authoritarian type leadership. Authoritarian leadership style is also known as autocratic. The autocratic leaders are mostly known for making decisions with little to no input of others. In my opinion, there are four examples which make Lieutenant Colonel Yaron an authoritarian type leader. The first example is Lieutenant Colonel Yaron subordinates had no motivation in getting the operation completed. The second example is he conducted training on how the evacuation operation should be conducted. The third example would how he started focusing on possible junior officers for replacement so he could be in better control of the evacuation. The final example Lieutenant Colonel Yaron showed he was a authoritarian type leader is asking the Brigadier General that he have personal involvement in the missions on the part of the dispatching units so he could have more control of the evacuation. There are positives for being authoritarian type leader. With the evacuation needing to be conducted within a short time line you would want an authoritarian type leader to take control. Another positive for authoritarian type leaders is determining the responsibility if the evacuation was to go wrong. Authoritarian type leaders are quick in determining disciplinary actions as well as changing direction when needed. An example of this in the case study is how Lieutenant Colonel Yaron started focusing on junior officer...

Leadship Theories

...Running head: LEADERSHIP THEORIES 1 Leadership Theories Cindi A. LaJoie Capella University LEADERSHIP THEORIES 2 Abstract Leading people requires a person (manager) to adapt their style to the people that they are attempting to lead. Leaders must have certain qualities in order to be considered effective by people. According to Brian Tracy, “Having a clear vision turns the transactional manager into a transformational leader” (Tracy, 2013). This paper will address three theories based on Fiedler’s Least-Preferred Coworker Theory, Likert’s Leadership Style, and House’s Path-Goal Theory as well as a connection between each theory in relation to working within a team setting or with an individual. LEADERSHIP THEORIES 3 Leadership Theories Feidler’s Least-Preferred Coworker Theory Fred Fiedler pioneered the Least-Preferred Coworker Theory. At its core, this theory speaks to the two types of leaders; one that is relationship oriented and the other that is task oriented. A relationship oriented leader typically will have low rating on the friendliness. The Least-Preferred Coworker Theory (LPC) is based on a scale of 1-8 with 1 being the lowest in friendliness, assistance, and openness. A high LPC score shows that a person tends to be relationship oriented...
