When I walked into Goodhue for the second time this semester, I was greeted warmly like I had been in my previous visits. My third graders who I had bonded with last semester swarmed me with hugs and greetings. They asked me to stay with them for the day, but I ended up staying with the kindergarten class. The kindergarteners ate snack in the gym while we waited for all of the other buses to arrive. We stayed there for a little while, then we went into another building to go to homework time. The children sat at three different tables that were picked by their teacher and did their homework. They got help from myself and the three other instructors. Most of the children had the same homework sheet, which was a sheet with different letters. …show more content…
Through working with children at Goodhue it was easy to see children’s primary and secondary emotions. Sometimes children were happy other times sad. To go deeper, sometimes children were envious of other children and what they had compared to what they didn’t. Working with children, these emotions are made obvious, especially when you get to know how a student normally act on a daily basis. While working in Goodhue, there is an obvious diversity like we spoke about in class. There are different types of diversity, such as race, socioeconomic status, financial circumstances, etc. These may be obvious through physical appearance, but not always. Some diversity can be seen through a child’s performance in the classroom. If a child is worried about being hungry or issues at home, they may not be able to focus on school and get left behind. During class we spoke about self-control. It is obvious that some students have better self-control than others. Some students can control their emotions and feelings. For example, if a student is upset at a teacher, they do not scream and yell at them if they have good self-control, they handle the situation in a civil manner. In Goodhue, there was obvious teacher-student relationships as we spoke about in class. In order to form these bonds with their students, the teachers many things, such as being sensitive, learning about child development, etc. These strong bonds between student and teacher help to ensure academic success. This is because when a student has a connection or bond with a teacher, they are more open to ask questions and feel like they can come to their teacher for help. It was also observed that many students had attachments to objects and people. Some students sit around silent until reunited with their parent. While their parent is gone, they are unwilling to explore. On the other hand, some students are open to exploring and other activities while

Banker Hsihui Chang The University of Texas at Dallas Yi-ching Kao University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee ABSTRACT: In recent years, information technology (IT) has played a critical role in the services provided by the public accounting industry. However, no empirical research has evaluated the impact of IT on public accounting firms. This study focuses on five offices of an international public accounting firm that recently made large IT investments, primarily in audit software and knowledge-sharing applications. Both qualitative and quantitative information from the research site are analyzed to estimate the change in productivity following the implementation of IT. The results from both regression analysis and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) indicate significant productivity gains following IT implementation, documenting the value impact of IT in a public accounting firm. Strategic Factors

...INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COMPUTERS Issue 4, Volume 6, 2012 Strategic and tactical success factors in ERP system implementation K. Curko1, D. Stepanic2, M. Varga3 Abstract— In order to successfully implement an ERP system it is necessary to properly balance critical success factors. By researching what the critical success factors in ERP implementation are, why they are critical, and to what extent they are relevant to users, consultants and suppliers, this paper seeks to identify critical success factors in ERP implementation and to understand the impact of each factor on the success of ERP system introduction. This paper lists ten critical success factors (CSF) providing two points of view: strategic and tactical. These are: top management support, a business plan and vision, top management support, change management program, project management, implementation strategies, project team, business process modeling and minimal customizations, monitoring and performance evaluation, software development, testing and troubleshooting, legacy systems. Keywords— ERP implementation, critical success factors, IT project, management I. INTRODUCTION Complex IT projects, such as developing and especially implementing ERP systems often fail. Many studies indicate a small success rate in terms of exceeding the time limit, budget and poor functionality of the new system. Successful ERP projects bring great benefits to the company, but can also be devastating to organizations...

...2. A Theoretical Research Framework This chapter presents a brief overview of the most relevant theoretical concepts of management control, accounting information systems, performance budgets and the roles of budgets. These general accounting concepts, applicable in both the private and public sector, are used to compose a research framework for analyzing the role of budgeted performance measures in Dutch local government. Organizational and management control Control, next to strategy formulation and objective setting, is one of the critical management processes (Merchant, 1998; Merchant and Van der Stede, 2003). The term “organizational control” has no single generally accepted definition. Literature presents various definitions, describing organizational control as a process (of setting a standard, observing what is happening, comparison of observation and standard, and if necessary, behavior altering communication), or by its main goal (e.g. assuring implementation of strategies). Anthony (1988) has provided a general accepted structure for organizational control. His traditional framework distinguishes three separate and distinct processes; being strategy formulation, management control, and task control. Within this concept, task control and strategy formulation form the boundaries of the management control process. Strategy formulation is the process of deciding on the goals of the organization and the strategies for attaining these goals. Task control is the process...

...IS Success Model in E-Learning Context Based on Students' Perceptions Freeze, Ronald D; Alshare, Khaled A; Lane, Peggy L; Wen, H Joseph. Journal of Information Systems Education21.2 (2010): 173-184. The title captures the objective of the study which is to evaluate the success of the E-learning based on the IS success model. Abstract This study utilized the Information Systems Success (ISS) model in examining e-learning systems success. The study was built on the premise that system quality (SQ) and information quality (IQ) influence system use and user satisfaction, which in turn impact system success. A structural equation model (SEM), using LISREL, was used to test the measurement and structural models using a convenience sample of 674 students at a Midwestern university. The results revealed that both system quality and information quality had significant positive impact on user satisfaction and system use. Additionally, the results showed that user satisfaction, compared to system use, had a stronger impact on system success. Implications for educators and researchers are reported. Keywords: IS Success, E-Learning, User satisfaction, System use, System quality, Information quality 1. INTRODUCTION Both undergraduate and graduate courses are experiencing a migration away from the traditional classroom and toward a greater emphasis for electronic delivery of content (Allen and Seaman, 2008). This trend cuts across all departments and schools in the university...

Entreprenuership

...Research Paper No. 2008/20 Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Wim Naudé * March 2008 Abstract What is the role of entrepreneurship in economic development? At a minimum the answer should be able to explain the role of entrepreneurs in the structural transformation of countries from low income, primary-sector based societies into high-income service and technology based societies. More broadly though, it should also be able to explain the role of entrepreneurs in the opposite pole of stagnating development (including conflict) and in high innovation-driven growth. Although economic development lacks a ‘general theory’ of entrepreneurship, which could encompass a variety of development experiences, much progress has been made in extending the understanding of entrepreneurship in the process of development. This paper surveys the progress with the purpose of distilling the outlines for a more general theory of entrepreneurship in economic development. Entrepreneurship in developing countries remains a relatively under-researched phenomenon, so by surveying the current state of research, and by discussing the role of entrepreneurship in dual economy models of structural transformation and growth, a secondary objective of this paper is to identify avenues for further research. Finally, the policy implications from the economic literature suggest that a case for government support exists, and that this should focus on the quantity, the quality, and the allocation of entrepreneurial...
