My transition to UVA-Wise has been successful for the most part, however I have been faced with many challenges as well. Although, I had prepared for my college experience I do not believe one truly acknowledges the struggles college students face until they become a college student. My first semester at UVA-Wise has been a wonderful learning experience thus far. There are many factors that play a considerable role as to what has made my transition smoother. As a result, I plan to use all the things I have learned this semester and utilize them in my coming years here at UVA-Wise.
There are many resources and individuals who work on campus that have assisted with my transition at UVA-Wise. Being a resident of Pound, I am currently a commuter student. Therefore, I am aware and familiar with the …show more content…
However, that has not halted in me obtaining new friendships. I have made many new friends this semester, some who I am very close with; I know that in my years to come here at UVA-Wise I will continue to make more friendships. Being a first-year college student is an extremely challenging, eye opening experience. Maintaining a weekly schedule has been one particular area in which I have struggled this semester. However, through many alterations in my schedule I discovered the perfect way for me to maintain my schedule, writing everything down in my planner/agenda! I do not have many classes with upper-classmen, therefore I do not often have the opportunity to speak with them. However, the SGA President here on campus has always been one of my good friends and amidst our busy schedules we have been able to talk a few times, where he has given me great advice that I took beyond just my experiences here at UVA-Wise. Gray aided in my realization that studying habits are something everyone must acquire their own routine for, which was something I was tremendously struggling with.
