How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to UChicago.
Every time I talk about UChicago, I speak with what I call my “hyper accent”, characterized by excessive hand gestures and fast talking --and an occasional jump in excitement. “The Core and the ‘life of the mind’ spirit, a city bustling with opportunities, the House system, the zany traditions, and the distinguished professors.” I chirp on, convinced by all those characteristics that UChicago is the perfect school for me.
The main reason why I applied to UChicago is the Core. There is a quote in the college’s Core brochure…show more content… The words of a current UChicago student captures what I want in the next four years: “The academics here is tough. Having a hard time is normal, but going at it alone is not.” I enjoy making new friends and UChicago’s unique house system makes it pretty easy to do so. There is also something about UChicago’s students that makes me say “my kind of people”. They seem just so intellectual, quirky, and easy going that I can imagine myself sitting down with them and making attachment vs. time for our respective love interests or having an intense debate about something like which of the seven dwarves we are.
I also love UChicago’s unique traditions, especially the Scavenger Hunt. I read that one guy didn’t shave his beard for weeks just in case there was a beard related item on the list (and there was!). I can’t grow a beard but I do want a shot at unboiling an egg and reconstructing a snail’s shell to look like a house. I’d also like to take part in Kuvia/Kangeiko. I want to showcase my praise-worthy yoga skills (I have the ability to unsuccessfully touch my toes) and contribute to the sense of community that the tradition
