As a child Louie Zamperini has been rebellious and courageous from the start, stealing food from the windows of families, to giving one of the worst guards a silly haircut while Louie was a POW. This quote explains how courageous Zamperini is because even though there are sharks that are circling the raft and a Japanese bombardier shooting at them, Louie rather die by the sharks then being killed by the Japanese. Another reason is, “If it was edible, Louie stole it. Housewives who stepped from their kitchens returned to find their suppers gone. Residents looking out their windows saw a long-legged boy dashing by, a stolen cake balanced on his hands…” Though it might not seem very courageous, but in a child's eyes like Louie, stealing some food in daylight, and sometimes in front of the housewives that seems pretty courageous considering he didn’t get caught.
